So the season is finally over. The UCL has been played, England have maybe a couple of posh friendlies to play (the Nations League) but nothing has happened at United. It's silent.

No sign of a DoF.

Nobody's left (bar Herrera and Valencia).

Nobody's joined us - no new transfers.

Is June when it all kicks off? Do a lot of players' contracts expire in June?

When is it all going to start? Until it does, a lot of the other threads in here are just pure speculation (transfers, leavers, formations, owners, the manager, etc.).

I'm not sure about you lot, but I need something to cling to hope-wise; a spark; a signing, to signal, to start it all off. I need something to look forward to after renewing my season ticket.

Because Woodward is doing his usual routine, Failing on the clubs top targets (i.e Sancho) and is trying to haggle for the second rate players.

Will be a long Summer, expect the worst tbh.

I saw an article on Reddit the other day that said the window for signing foreign players only opens on the 11th, but I'm not sure if that's the case? Still, we could have done deals anyway that would just become official then.

Other than that I can't even imagine why we've not done any deals. Considering the desperate situation i thought for sure we'd be straight out of the blocks with deals on place. Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to how we operate though.

That's because we are preparing a bid. We're targeting X. We're keeping an eye on Y. We're plotting a move for Z. We're facing a transfer battle. We're in a race for. We're set to secure a deal. We're discussing a move for. We are linked, we are eager and we are ready to go!

See, I'm with you. I thought we'd get our business done early, but nothing. Maybe it's going to be a really painful summer and new season? :-(

Nothing to worry about yet, hardly any deals have been done and if we’re battling for the kind of talent you’d hope we would be, it’ll likely take some time.

I’ll panic if we’ve done nothing by the 20th.

I think the telling thing is Ole has maintained he needs a full pre season with his players. If we haven’t signed anyone by the time pre season starts, then I think we should be concerned about the appetite to support him in the market.

Once these Internationals finish this weekend - i imagine we'll see some movements.
James will sign within the week, and we'll end up with one of De Ligt/Maddison/Fernandes/AWB within the week as well. Just get the feeling that it'll be someone in midst of these Nations Cup malarkey.

A painful summer is always most likely given our recent history. We won't do the level of business we're all hoping for and, given that I think we will wait for Sancho, I think there'll be at least a couple of issues that remain unaddressed going into next season.

Hang on you lot, you are only talking new signings. What about the big one - the DoF? Until then we are stuffed.

Closing something this early is only doable if you're either in a fantastic position to draw your targets uncontested OR if you're willing to throw money willy-nilly, meeting any and all demands of the selling clubs, players and agents. Ed isn't particularly given to the latter and we're definitely not in a position to draw the best like Real are. Ergo, we have to wait, frustrating though it is. The time to be really concerned will be if by the 20th, we don't have 2-3 wrapped up (at least). Till then, hey-ho, life goes on...

Edit: Oh and yeah, we've got to free up squad places, but with names as stellar as Darmian, Jones, Rojo and co. on the books, it's been tough for Ed to sell...

I think so much depends on who leaves and who we can actually get rid off.

And so many of the players we want rid off are on wages that they simply arnt going to get else where. Until we figure out how to deal with that our squad is pretty full.

I suppose we could sign a right winger and a midfielder, as there is some room in the squad in those positions.

But beyond that it’s all about who leaves and how we get others to leave.

Hoping to wake up to BBc News showing a pic of Ole with several key signings - SAF used to do that from time to time.

Imagine clicking on BBC to see a pic of Ole, De Ligt, Fernandes, Rabiot, James and AWB.

I'd probably think i was still asleep :-(

Doesn't really make to sense to hire a DoF at this stage - at least not if said person is supposed to get straight to work and be a part of any transfer dealings.

I'm not sure we're after a DoF, though. Not in the sense people want.

Six Premier League clubs have made signings so far and it is internationals this week. If there's no sign of anything being done in two weeks, that'll probably be the time to panic.
That sounds about right. When do we go for preseason? Ideally we’d want to complete at least 60-70% of our business (in and out) before then.

Look at those signings though. Almost all are freebies, with their contracts discussed and signed almost 6 months ago. The ones that aren't are youth signings and loans, with the exception of Jiminez, who was already at the club on loan. Signings simply aren't made this earlier. Players are on holiday or are still playing, and most of the selling clubs will be looking to secure replacements prior to selling the player anyway.

No need to panic. Never really remember United getting things done early. Buckle up for a long summer.

If by June 20th nothing has happened I'm officially hitting the panic button. As for the hiring of a DoF, give it a rest. It's never going to happen.

A couple of players we are linked to have Nations league, so maybe we're waiting until that is done.

By some accounts we are now struggling to attract / sign the top players , and struggling even more to move on who we want out. No CL is takings its toll. Only thing we have to give them over others now is simply more money, and the type of players we need, that simply isnt going to be their priority.

The DoF role should have been sorted long ago. Its actually a joke that we still have Woodward spearheading our transfers after that disastrous season. From what ive heard no matter who they bring in, they will still have to run targets by woodward anyway, so whats the point!?

I cant see this season being any better, i can only see it being worse.. Nothing behind the scenes is seemingly going to change. the structure of the club is a complete mess and the Glazers dont seem bothered. Its going to take us drastically hitting rock bottom and for us to lose sponsors/money, for them to even consider sorting out the structure, and getting in people who know football. I fear for Ole, because he's taken over this poisoned chalice, and if we move ahead with no change. Its only going to end one way for him. And years for us to pick ourselves up.. If you think Arsenal fighting for 4th for years was bad, this will be much worse for us.

Real Madrid have already spent over £100m, as have Bayern Munich. Borussia Dortmund have already bought in three players for a combined £75m

It's not time to panic yet but once again I am concerned that we are not moving with the times. The window closes earlier, we've got obvious and glaring flaws with the squad...I would have liked to have thought that as early as December/Jan that Ed and the team would have been lining up deals. Bringing in 2/3 players in July/August for big money is likely to become the exception rather than the norm now.

TBH....I don't even understand why we wait for the windows to secure deals. We've know we needed a RB since about 2012....why couldn't we have been scouring Europe, South America etc...for a couple of cheap up and coming young full backs to take a punt on for a few million whilst we line up the main targets?

Transfer deals have become complex procedures that includes players, agents and clubs, and the details of transfer payment agreements, agent fees and player contracts are becoming increasingly complex. Hence, most transfer deals take weeks to complete, especially for top class players that are chased by multiple clubs. That is why we have seen so few deals being confirmed at this point, and why we haven't confirmed any transfers in or out yet.

When it comes to DoF, we are in no hurry to bring in someone at this point. Even if we sign a DoF today I prey to god that he will have absolutely no impact on our transfer business this summer. It will take time to settle in to this kind of role and make an evaluation of how the club should be directed going forwards, meaning that it will takes several months until a DoF will start to have an impact. If we hire one around September, he may play an important part from the preparations for the 20/21 season.

It is frustrating when fans are saying no one else has signed anyone.
Real Madrid, Barca, and Bayern have done their business early with the players they wanted. the rest will be dependent on who is available and who leaves.

All we seem to be doing is placing bids and monitoring players.

It's not time to panic yet but once again I am concerned that we are not moving with the times.
Yuu say this, but I doubt we will get any of our first choice signings, maybe even second choice. We will end up with panic buys this season. Mark my word.

Relax. I’m sure we’ll announce Juan Matas contract extension in the next few days.

Hopefully we can then keep DC United away from getting Ashley Young so we can call it a successful summer transfer window.

My gut feeling is to tell you to relax it’s early days and season not even fully over until nations league really. But my feelings about ed Woodward override this. He has given absolutely no indication bar perhaps 2016 summer, that he can oversee a transfer strategy of any coherency. Maybe they have been, but targets should be identified way out from summer, clear primary targets and secondary ones and a deep grasp of why we are aiming to sign player x and what we want player y to offer in relation to other new signings and our set up next season.

I think it is far more likely we see a scattergun summer of fecking farce again, and end up with a few players were not convinced we really wanted and haven’t given consideration to how they’re all work together.

He and supposedly judge, are absolute catastrophies. I have no optimism about their capability to deliver a smart, progressive summer.

Deals can be done just not announced.
There's a bit of go enjoy your holidays and we'll get the madness started after you return about this.

All we've done is registered our intrest in the player or expressed our intrest, fecking joke. Everyone and there dog knows we need a RB so no need to express shit, fecking sign him already.

Ignoring those making needless excuses and those in a dizzy already, all we can say right now is we've not done an excellent job of getting things sorted nice and early.

If we announce some over the next couple of weeks then all is well. Beyond that it's a fecking disgrace, i don't imagine we'll have many making the same old excuse if we go into preseason without any signings (or a small one like James).

With the season we've just had, the people that matter at United should be putting their foot down regarding this and telling all involved this is an urgent issue that needs sorting asap. No one is 100% off duty this summer

None of this 'go relax and we will figure it out in June'. Any players unsure of their future should be told you have until x date to let us know. And anyone Ole wants in, should be the same, and have been in contact with long ago, figured out the possibilities of them signing and have second choices lined up and ready to go. None of this 'monitoring' sh*te.

We simply dont have time to pander and piss about this summer on sorting this mess out.

If we do.. I fear for the worst.. Like one of the above poster mentioned.. expect a random scattergun non sensical Woodward'esq approach of complete panic buys

It's a weird one, because on one hand its fair - most clubs have made no signings, the nations league is in the way, still early days etc.

But how can you begrudge a United fan for getting concerned early doors? We've had some grim Summers over the last few years and there's never been less reason to have confidence.

Just have to try and not let the frustration get the best of you - and ideally check for news as little as possible because we're going to sign them when we sign them and checking won't change that. We'll all find out in a matter of minutes when something concrete happens anyway, we're all connected.

Nations league, internationals etc. If things don't start moving after this weekend, especially if the rumours of us wanting to get all our signings in before pre season starts... then i'll be worried.
