Take care of him lads, he has shown some sparkle of quality I haven't seen in my team since that Michu season.
I know numbers don't necessarily prove that, but I've watched every game he played this season and he can make a difference even in the Prem.

What if the salary is good will since their household would have lost their dad’s income and it’s mainly performance related? There are a number of reasons it could be what it is. There’s no way he’s just getting 67k a week base.
Are you being serious?

The guy was earning £200K per year in the Championship, he can probably already buy and sell his family.

Yes, which was my concern initially. We shouldn't offer top wages for players that haven't earned them yet.
I'll rephrase. Money shouldnt be seen as a motivating factor.

That means we shouldnt be trying to keep young players poor until they "earn it" and shouldnt be trying to use big money to lure players who don't really want to be here.

£200K a week in the Championship? I didn't know Swansea paid that much. He is on the same salary as Lukaku then.

Na, was just saying something a bit outlandish to show we don’t know the details of the contract or why it was offered.

Can't believe there's a talk about 67k salary. I mean ok club has been giving too high salaries but this one is not so dramatic at all..

But 40k would be ok.. :wenger:

We have a good history of players with two first names... Rio Ferdinand, Gary & Phil Nevllie...

I'm glad he signed for us. But as some has said, almost 70k a week for a young player who coming from championship? Why? Do we really need to compete for his singing? I get it big club paid big money. But that should be for big players only. I would like to see the median wage for squad players in other big clubs. Does those club paid those players as much as us?

Apparently Maddison is on £55k per week at Leicester and he signed from the Championship.

Not necessarily comparing the players, but I don’t think what he was on at Swansea has any relevance to what United should pay him.

He was (technically still is) on 4k per week with us.

You are buying potential. Speculate to accumulate. Absolutely nothing guaranteed but if he makes it then £18m and £67k per week is peanuts.

No one, including me and you, knows the answer yet.
And if he doesn't make it, we have yet another overpaid shite player we cannot get rid of. We just seem to keep making the same mistakes. Hopefully the story is false and he is on a base of about 20-30k but it can get to 67k with performance related bonuses and appearances.

The report didn't say he is on 67K base salary, it was including all the bonuses. They didn't report what was the base salary.

4K a week player can accept 25K a week with a happy face so why we given him 60K plus for a week ?

Bloody hell there are doom merchants everywhere now.

We sign an up and coming and exciting prospect and people are ignoring bonus payments and including them in his weekly wage just to justify having a pop at him before he's even signed.

Get a grip.

Yeah, that was the plan. Player asked for 25K a week and just because we have more money, we said "feck it you will be paid 67K per week".

Willing to bet his agent is the one releasing the 67k figure. He probably needs to play every game, score 30+ goals and win player of the year to get there but it is good business for his agent to put out the highest possible number to help him attract more clients.

Why care about how much he's getting paid? Manchester United is not a sweatshop. You don't sign for the biggest club in the world and get chump change. It's the same everywhere, and for whichever profession you're in. The big private law firms wouldn't be big if they paid the juniors the same the other ones do. It's a matter of reputation and maintaining it. Beside, he's a kid playing a dangerous game. He could go out there, be at the end of a career-ending tackle and whoop-dee-doo.

There's a viewpoint at the moment that every single thing Ed does must somehow be wrong.

Why else would people be quibbling over paying someone 67k at Manchester United. It's not like the club can't afford it.

And that we should run our club like Levy and stinge our way to glory. Forget about the inherent problems that brings with it.

Because any big players we bring in will then demand more money, if a guy from the championship gets 67k a week here imagine what top quality players would ask for. Sanchez has already fecked up our contract talks enough with the likes of De Gea.

What do you want? It's the nature of the beast. If you want the best, you pay the best. It's only fair. It does not mean it's an exact science but it makes sense.

Big players won't see what a guy from championship is paid, they will see what highest earner is paid.

I know, but De Gea would've signed a new contract by now if we hadn't bought Sanchez imo.

True, most likely won't. Sanchez fecked us with wages regardless.

Why can't we get rid of Darmian, Rojo, Sanchez, Jones, Lingard etc? Because they are all on too much money and no one is willing to pay their wages. To shift these players we have to sell them for literally nothing, and we are the only club regularly in this situation.

The players are happy to stay at the club, earn their money and not perform. Just because they play for one of the biggest clubs in the world doesn't give them automatic right to earn huge salaries. They have to earn that right on the pitch and win trophies.

What message does that send to any player that comes here? They have already got the mega contract without doing anything. Even a club the size of United has a budget. And if we keep paying our shit players money this stops us offering wages to much better players.

This is the part i don't get. People are moaning that they didn't offer Herrera at 29 years old a 5 year deal at over 200k a week, then there's other people saying we are paying this 21 year old with many more miles on the clock too much at 67k.

As I've said already creating large pay disparities within squads is a mistake. It causes perceived hierarchies and breeds resentment. Sanchez's wage has completely fecked up the balance. Trying to put James on 10% of his salary is hardly going to help the squad balance.

I'm in complete agreement on the above mentioned players. I think getting rid of them is vital if Ole is going to change the culture here. That said paying Dan James 10% of Sanchez's wage doesn't solve any of those problems. It just highlights the disparity.

It wont make a difference if he gets 25k per week, 50k per week or 67k per week. We paid 15m for him, do you really expect him to be on 20k a week here? I dont. It is like paying 60m for someone and give him a 100k per week salary. Someone with a certain price tag will also reflect that in wages and they are nor proportional or linear. If he renewed with Swansea, he would already be earning quite a lot to his previous contract. Contracts have exploded (club revenue as well), a talented Welsh international wont play for super cheap these days either when he has other potential offers.
