Why don’t Madrid or Barca ever try & sign City players?

We have all seen over the years as soon as a Premier League players reaches the world class or near world class level the big 2 in Spain start sniffing around i.e RVN, Beckham, Suarez, Ronaldo, Hazard, Bale etc.

City have been brilliant for 5 or 6 years now on the field, and have pretty much tried to steal Barcelonas philosophy in terms of playing style, manager & sporting director and never once have we seen Barca attempt to sign one of Citys players from them. Even though the likes of Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo etc would of slotted right into their playing style. Kompany also

Real on the other hand have lacked a world class number 9 for nearly a decade now with Benzema being so hot & cold and we have pretty much seen them get every target they have properly pursued in the last decade and beyond, especially from the Premier League. Yet never once have they properly been linked with any City players.

I once heard a rumour that because of the Etihad & Emirates links there was a gentlemans agreement between the two clubs to never pursue one of Citys players. All I can think of down the years is Adebayors loan deal & City signing Robinho.

Why is this? Im referring to proper attempts to sign players also not Daily Star links of Sterling to Madrid

Lacked a world class number 9 for a decade? Really? I’m sure Madrid fans would argue that isn’t the case. Benzema has been a great servant for them and was a very good foil for Ronaldo. Don’t think Ronaldo and Aguero would have worked as well especially with Aguero being a Messi fanboy and you know Ronaldo can be petty at times.

The sporting director for City is an old Barsa player, Beguiristain, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he has some sort of agreement with them not to poach each other’s players.

Madrid just bought Brahim Diaz from them so I don’t think they avoid City players as a matter of principle. Probably just a matter of price. KDB would be an awesome replacement for Modric or Kroos but I cannot see City selling him for anything under a world record bid.

Because they can’t financially. I thought it was pretty clear that city and psg are in a league of their own financially. Aguero is South American and probably dreamt of playing for Madrid but yet he is happy in cold Manchester. It’s obviously because he is a trillionaire playing for city. Jokes aside players don’t leave these two clubs unless the clubs have no further use for them. There is no doubt in my mind city’s important players have offshore accounts with massive amounts of money in them.

They never needed to buy some of their players. Either because they have better ones or because just as good ones were available elsewhere cheaper

The biggest teams rarely purchase from each others and they didn't actually need anyone from these teams, especially not for the fees that City would potentially demand.

We already have proof that Mancini was paid double that way. This is a fairly obvious conclusion.

It's been pretty well established that a lot of the top personnel at City get a second off the books stream of income on top of their basic wages and bonuses.

Malcom and countinho are not better than Bernardo Silva. Also the problem is that we never ever hear any transfer rumors regarding any important city players. These guys are off limits once they reach city or psg. Neymar is an exception because he is much bigger than psg but even he can’t force away a move unless he is in his last year.

We were the biggest club when madrid purchased Ronaldo from us. Fact remains we easily sold ronaldo to madrid and we didn't even replace him with quality. That was poor from us

It was the only time we sold them a player that we wanted to keep and it happened a decade ago and people are still obsessed about it.

No doubt about this at all. Aguero & Silva (now KDB) haven’t even been rumored, no one can tell me Barça or Madrid haven’t wanted these players but they are on silly money with dodgy sponsorship deals, dodgy double salaries and no other side can come close to paying as much.

But Citeh in particular are very good at using PR to show they don’t pay that much and can be beaten to the likes of Sanchez because they have a wage structure... it’s all smoke and mirrors.

Thats because they never were in for Bernardo in the first place. I dont think they want Bernardo. If they wanted him, they would have bought him from Monaco. Malcom was for squad depth and Coutinho they wanted. I think if Coutinho played for City instead of Liverpool, they would have tried for him. But i am sure City wouldnt sell, because they dont need the money.

Their players are quite happy to be at City, i assume they get paid a lot of cash outside of official wages.

We replaced him with Valencia, crocked Owen & farmer Obertan as European Champions. Tbf, it still hurts to this day.

Whoever sanctioned that deal at Madrid needs sacking. £15m to sign him in January so he could play like three games when his contract was expiring in the summer anyway.

That’s was terrible by everyone at the club, I remember when Juve lost Zidane, they instantly went out and replaced him with Pavel fecking Nedved who was actually better for Juventus than the former. That’s what you do when you lose a top player :(

Good. More of this. Imagine a world where Real and Barcelona can't use their status to wrest top players away from other clubs.

There was David de Gea as well who was minutes away from being a Madrid player.

It is crazy that Man City have remained untouched going right back to their first title win and not just under Guardiola, how neither Barca or Madrid never wanted Silva or Kompany is beyond me and then you have PSG who have never attempted to buy any of their players either.

I feel like there must be something shady going on for them to have such fortune considering City are filled with foreign players and Manchester is probably not their 1st choice of city's to live in longterm, also it's only been in this last few seasons that City have looked dominant domestically and their home ground/support is hardly anything special to be playing in front of.

That's why I will never have it that, the Glazers supported Fergie, like hell they did. He achieved what he did in spite of those leaches.

Juve are pretty good at replacing their players and coming out better off. Most recent example is Ronaldo for Higuain.

in 2016, Pjanic & Higuain for combined 10m less to replace Pogba & Morata wasn't bad business too.

The City players are paid by a separate shell company so their wages are far higher than their accounts show. No one can match the their salaries paid.

Nah. Would have made sense if we were Madrid or Barcelona but what it means is that those 2 can disturb the next best clubs which include us.

I'm convinced City players are being paid huge sums of money, their actual reported wages are lies.
This is a little bit tinhat but major companies failing to publicise the wages they pay is hardly uncommon. David Silva, in particular, has always been a Barcelona player, for me. I can see where the OP is coming from.

Scandalous allegation!!

Next you'll be saying City set up a shell company, part sold players image rights which led to higher payments to the players, but reduced wages on City's books.... all to help them circumvent FFP rules.

Then you'll maybe throw in something equally ridiculous.... like that Sheikh Mansour personally recompenses said shell company to "complete the loop". Or that City's sponsorship deals are inflated.

Those top clubs do the same thing to smaller clubs. Look at Liverpool and Southampton. United does the same thing.

No it was true. Pep himself called him the best winger in the world on the eve of the CL final.
Pep has come out with loads of shite in his time, for example:

“John Stones has more personality than all of us here together in this room - and more balls as well”

Calling Valencia World Class is ridiculous, he was a very decent Lee Sharpe standard winger.

City can’t be strong-armed into selling like other clubs. We’ve seen this before with player bahaviour as well.

They will happily run down a players contract and risk losing them for free, as money really is no object. Meanwhile, the player can sign a fat new deal or rot in the reserves.
