Sandro the old Spurs DM. I remember they got him young, he played good for six months and he was suddenly hyped up as one of best DMs in europe. Then fell out of favour and ended up at QPR where he barely did anything. Guess he's back in Brazil now.

It's been a while since I've read the name Yacine Brahimi.
Still at Porto although don't know if his career has stalled, read he's on a free transfer so imagine he could pop up in premier league next season.

Antolin Alcaraz. A memory was posted on twitter by Everton and he featured and the memories of him stinking up the place for two seasons flooded back. He was bloody awful and the player everyone can look at when arguing about Martinez and whether or not he can build a defence.
I remember him. Here at portugal we were surprised how did such a crappy player like him who was part of a relegated team was suddenly playing at England.

He had a good WC for Paraguay in 2010. They were very tough to score against in the tournament so inevitably a premier league club just looks at that rather than his overall history and takes a chance.

Inevitably that was Wigan under Martinez who had a real league of nations squad in those days. I think he did actually play in the cup final win over Man. City in 2013 so one good defensive performance in England.

He was exposed badly at Everton.

I've probably mentioned him before but Nery Castillo....was playing in Greece as 16 year old, huge hype, Mexico got him to play for their NT team and Man. City (pre takeover) signed him. Very much a player who just faded into obscurity.

Edit: According to his wiki he was on trial at Man. United at 16 but couldn't get a work permit.

Whoa, great shout. I expected him to be the next big thing after the 2007. Confederations Cup, where he scored this worldie:

Giovanni dos Santos also badly failed to build up to the hype out of players from that Mexico side.

I was going to say he and Riveros got their moves to England because Martino made that Paraguayan defence so well drilled at the World Cup in 2010 that they looked great defensively, but they both seem to have been bought in May, before the tournament, so no idea really.

He seems like the obvious move for Wolves. They could use a player like him behind Jota and Jimenez and able to play wide when they go 4 at the back, and Gibbs-White isn't ready yet.

Kieran Gibbs.
I always thought he was solid-ish for Arsenal, their sort of Fletcher/O'Shea type.

Not the brightest move for him to go to West Brom when Watford also wanted him at the time (their training ground is across the road from Arsenal) and of course they've had much better last two years than WBA.

Wasn’t he absolutely ruined by injury?

Before him, Redknapp signed Palacios for nearly £15m and all the British pundits thought it was a masterstroke. He was quietly shoved off to Stoke soon after when it turned out he had about as much football ability as he did a neck.
