Barca aren’t signing Rashford, don’t worry about it. They generally add players who will improve their team.

Can the OP please change the thread title? It's not like we are losing Becks or CR. An inconsistent young player who thinks he has made it. Who on his best days is a 7/10 and on his worst days is a -1/10. Our own Theo Walcott. A guy who has very low football IQ. Trash on set pieces. Can't dribble, can't pass. Has serious tunnel vision. Somebody please send him on the next available flight to Barcelona.
And please stop with the 'he is anti-english' thing. People are not against english players. The greatest United player is an Englishman. They are against mediocre players. And Rashford and his buddy 'J-Lingz' are the definition of mediocrity. And the only people defending them are those who see some non existent 'potential' in them.
This.

Pretty much agree with all this, but just curious with the bolded part?

Best is Northern Irish. Law Scottish... Charlton? He was a fantastic player no doubt but our best? Rooney? Surely not....

A bit surprised the consensus is a general indifference. Think Ole will make everyone sick of Rashy the same way Jose did with Lukaku

I was talking about Sir Bobby Carlton. Factoring in things like longevity, united youth player, survivor of Munich, captain, balon d'or winner etc. His name has been associated with the club for like the past 60 years. I think that he is what every United player should aspire to be. Of course, if people put Best or Law over him, I would have no problem with it.

Wow some of you are harsh. He’s 21 he’s been made to play 3 different styles under 3 different managers, he been put in 3 different positions. There has been no consistency to his development and yet people here want to get rid because he’s not performing consistently at an elite level.

I think getting rid now would be very short sighted, the guy is clearly gifted and has scored some amazing goals. If this is the way he is treated by some of you I dread to think what will happen to James here if and when he has an off form patch.

Young players are inconsistent, your club has been massively inconsistent in terms of manager, style and tactics. It’s hardly surprising Rashford has struggled for periods.
Harsh? This is the top level! If he was similair to Mbappe then yes he could have some inconsistensies because we'd knew his abilities and talent. But he's not on that level. Look at Madrid they bought and got 4 out of 5 champions leagues in return. We need to be serious and ambitious like them. There is no time for fecking around no more. Or else we will lagg behind and be the new Liverpool of England.

He is 21. Very few players are fully developed at that age, and you don't have to look too hard to find examples of players taking massive leaps beyond that age. You only have to look at our own recent history, Beckham had just come back from his loan at Preston and Scholes was struggling to establish himself. Not everyone is Giggs or Rooney, development rarely occurs in a pleasant linear manner.

Show a little patience.

I think he is a good albeit limited player. He is still young, so threre is room to improve but definitely not irreplaceable.

I don't want the club being held hostage during another contract negotiation.
Set the price and deadline, if met, sell.

You also don't have to look too hard to find examples of players failing to take the leap from promising youngster to successful top level player though, that's the problem. It's all very well crossing our fingers and hoping he works out long term but we've got to be realistic and accept that it's far from guaranteed.

I'm all for showing patience if Marcus is willing to show patience before he starts demanding wages he's not yet worthy of.

I’d be happy to keep rashford here, I think he’s had a hard time as he’s expected to be our main man and he’s not ready for that, shame we havnt got a world class striker rashford could develop with and be eased into the team, like most youngsters should. This is why buying even more youth worries me, we need established players that our youth can learn from and take over from, not just get thrown in the deep end, fail and end up getting shipped out.

And I’m not rashfords biggest fan in the slightest, he infuriates me

Agree with this. He's a young striker with talent, but at that age he's going to be inconsistent and will still need time to develop.

He shouldn't be first choice for Utd right now based on this. He should be a squad player developing in order to lead the line here. Right now I still think he'd be best playing from the left supporting a number 9.

All that said, I do get the impression he's let it all go to his head a little this last 12 months, and now these 'reports' of Barca wanting him, while hes negotiating a new contract? Seems pretty obvious where they're coming from, and its not Barca! He needs to have a little word with himself, and question who's telling him what.

Beckham had scored 2 goals in 5 matches at Preston, one of which was from a corner. He ran his socks off for Preston just like he did at United.

Scholes was a youth product who scored on his full league debut, his FA Cup debut, his league cup start, and his full England debut.

If you map the youth trajectory of every single world class player, you will find examples of performances that Rashford can only dream of. Mark Hughes was a two time winner of the PFA trophy, and even he showed better class than Rashford at 21.

Little to disagree with here. I don't know how good he will end up, but given how highly rated he is by knowledgeable people throughout football and not just at Utd I think he is worth a little faith.

We still have people talking about Lukaku developing, and Pogba maturing, both at 26 but determined to give up on Rashford at 21. This coming season would be the first season of his career when he will be first choice, played as a striker, not on the wing, worth seeing how he does.

Didn't Rashford do the same? Scholes did struggle to secure a place after that initial impact, transitioned to midfield and it was only really when Keane did his acl that he became a key member of the team, he was still splitting midfield duties with Butt up to the treble season even so.

He’s a good player, not great but still has room to develop so would rather keep him but he does seem to have an over inflated opinion of his own ability & level right now & for the love of god somebody needs to take him off free kicks as they are always absolutely terrible.

Really hope he stays. Easily one of our most exciting players and will improve in front of goal as he continues to develop, he has already got a good record of scoring in big games. If he is going to demand £300K a week then we have to say no to that though and take a stand, though I doubt this is the case as the media have portrayed.

I don't think it is a good idea to make him undisputed no. 1 up front though at this point in his career. He is still learning his trade and doesn't score enough yet, so we ideally would have someone else who could play up front when Rashford is struggling. Lukaku could be that but he has his own issues and he could be on his bike.

If it happens, it happens. Would like to keep hold of a good prospect but if we get an offer in the £100m range I can understand if the club accepts.

Barca wouldn't go for him though.

Foreign fans hate Rashford, Im mates with a lot of united fans and none of them ever bring up Rashford as a player we need to sell.

If you come on here or go on YouTube the hate for Rashford is unbelievable. The fact that people can’t see the potential in this kid is beyond me.

A 21 year old kid who has come through the academy is the reason we are shite? It’s hilarious.

Rashford is highly rated by all the top pundits, managers and players across the world. Barca couldn’t possibly be after him because he’s shit says the clueless feck who spends more time watching basketball.

Of course United fans from Manchester and from around Manchester like him because he’s come through the academy. You’re forgetting he’s what this club is all about. Young Talent coming through the academy playing for the first team.

You hate him because he’s something you’ll never be. A United fan.

No he didn't.

What's your point? If it's so important to nurture 21 year olds in case they became world class, why did Sir Alex flog John O'Kane (class of 92) to the lower leagues. Same for Chadwick. My point is that it's still possible to judge a player at 21. The top coaches can do it, but so can the average person. By that I mean that the latter can do it with more or less success.

Most of Rashford' strong points come from him being selfish. That kind of attitude rubs me the wrong way.
He's no Welbeck yes he's also 21, better than most footballers at this age but there's no telling he'll develop into the player we all want him to be.

Not really that absurd that Barcelona may be after him. He is no worse than Dembele. Rashford got better stats than him in a far worse team.

Rashford just needs to stop thinking he is Cristiano Ronaldo.

If you'd asked me a year ago, I'd have been really pissed off but he has been off the boil for quite while now and his attitude doesn't seem great. Has he become big-headed? I don't know. Has he improved how I expected/hoped? No. Would I let him go - possibly if it guaranteed getting the right replacement (not sure who that is). I just don't see him as a 20 league goals a season man- but there others I'd off-load before "rashy" (grrrr, hate that)

He rubbish he no Ronaldo or Messi or even Mbappe. He might do better playing in a inferior league to the EPL. I bite Barcelona arm off and sell right away if they offering 100m plus for him.

I'd be fuming if it happened. Would just cement our place as a club in free fall.
I thought we where already a club in free fall. not been able to compete for the EPL for 7 years would mean something would it not.

You are correct, he didn't. Only scored on Europa League, Premier League, England, England U21, League Cup and Champions League Debuts.

The overwhelming majority of 21 years olds have not showed as much as Rashford. Most players of that age are killing themselves to get a game, Rashford has already shown he can be decisive in big matches, while guys like Chawick and O' Kane and John Curtis struggled to make any impact at even League Cup level, at the same age.

Completely right. Well said.
All I would say to those who continually critisise him is - be careful of what you wish for.

I'd definitely want to keep Rashford. I don't know why everything has to be one extreme or the other with people these days.

He isn't world class, he might never be (I don't suspect he will be in that top 5 or even 10 attackers in the world bracket) but that also doesn't mean he should be sold off. He can be great on his day and if he can find some consistency and improve his finishing then he'll be a really good player. We need really good players. Every team does.

I think the same of lingard although I feel he'll slot into a tier below someone like Rashford. That still means a very good squad player, one who loves the club and understands it far more than the people who criticise him. It doesn't mean they're impervious to critisicm but you can do that without insisting they're sold.

If what you say is true, why are fans in this very forum bidding Rashford a cheerful adieu? Where is the unified outcry against this supposed transfer? Show me the PFA young player of the year that Rashford won.

You got nothing to say about all those debuts he scored on - given that you raised the topic? Some might say that is a lot more impressive than a few goals for Preston North End...

It's funny, (in an attempt to emulate Ronaldo?) he seems to be going the opposite route Ronaldo did in his career; becoming more flashy and dumber instead of less flashy and smarter.

If the coaching staff don't point him in the right direction quickly, I don't see it ending well for him.

Surely you have heard of the phrase resting on one's laurels. A week is a long time in football.

I was grateful when Rashford scored those one nil winners. But with LVG gone he has regressed. He won't be a CR. But I'm not asking for that. I'm asking from him to be a Klose, an Inzaghi or a Muller. My hopes have lessened with the same speed that Rashford's limitations have been exposed.

Ironically, my hope was he would be our next Chicharito or OGS type impact sub.

No chance of that happening now.

Horrible mismanagement by the club.

he's no forward. maybe a winger but an out & out forward... no.

but united are way below par all over the pitch. ballooning balls over the crossbar or putting in woeful crosses.
