IFK Gothenburg.

Incredibly successfull in the 80's where they won the UEFA Cup twice(82,87) and got to semis in the European Cup where they lost to Barcelona after fecking up a 3-0 lead in the first leg and went to Barcelona and lost on penalties. Also won their group in 94/95 with teams like United, Barcelona and Fenerbache.

Sadly, it all went to shit after the successes in the 80's and 90's. They used their money incredibly bad and have been on the brink of relegation a few times, like last year. Had to sell their training ground and the financial struggles were at the level where they had to fire their own chef.

This year all the fans and the media projected them to be relegated and the financial struggles remain. However, they have had a massive year so far 12 games into the season sitting at 4th at 6 points behind Malmö on the top after 12 games including most of the top teams, with a very young squad and a manager(Poya Ashbagi, who turns 34 this year.
They have a very exciting prospect named Alhassan Yusuf, an 18 year old light version of N'Golo Kante who I wish United kept an eye on. Ajax and Barcelona are reportedly interested. Other prospects who have been excellent worth noting are Benjamin Nygren(ST/RM, 17 yrs), Giorgi Kharaishvili(LW, 22 yrs) and Patrik Karlsson Lagemyr (CAM, 22yrs). These players will hopefully save the clubs finances with their inevitable sales. However, they have relative low prices at the range of £2-£5m pounds and but could be worth a punt for a few bigger teams.

Turned out to be an essay of a post, but it makes me happy to see the club turn things around after almost 25 years of misery.

Probably Bury. I've had a soft spot for them since the time Les Shannon was the manager and my mate was a huge supporter. They were in the old 2nd Division then and heading for relegation only to come straight back up again. Gigg Lane was a fun ground. You could walk around and switch ends at half-time.

They had some good players back then. Colin Bell - whom they sold to City - Greg Farrell, George Jones, Bobby Collins (ex-Leeds), Alf Arrowsmith (ex-Liverpool) and Ray Parry. I'd sometimes go there when United were away and I couldn't afford to go, which was fairly often in those days.

Rosenborg Ballklubb, known as RBK. From Trondheim, Norway. Had an amazing run under legendary manager Nils Arne Eggen, where he played somewhat of an offensive 4-3-3 formation without the high focus on possession we see nowaday.

His philosophy is legendary: the strong foot, or the good foot-directly translated. In short, he asked all his players what they did well, and put all focus into developing those skills. Not adressing weaknesses, but honing the strengths.

And it worked; 11 seasons in a row in the CL group stages, from the 95/96 season to the 2007/2008 season. With a QF as best result in 96/97, where they beat AC Milan away, and @Strats ‘ IFK Göteborg in both legs in the group stages to progress on their expense. (Fun fact, it was a draw vs RBK that was the final nail in the coffin for Roman the first time he fired Mourinho). Winning all but one of the adjoning league titles in the same run. Anyway, they’re more than just a bit shit these days, with Bendtner stinking up the place on ridiculous wages.

I’d hope United would win of course. RBK is in the city I moved to years ago, but United was much earlier.

Not really into FC any more but if they played big United I'd want them to win, it would be their best ever result and going out of the league cup ain't a big deal for us, if it was a Champions League Final or a Premier League fixture I'd want us to win. Probably the same if it was Alty, if we ever play Salford I'd hope we'd smash them all over the place

Wouldn't call them second necessarily but yea, Þróttur. They'll never play United.

United are my team, but I also support Leyton Orient, who are round the corner from me.

Wolverhampton Wanderers. I attend 3-4 games a season when my nephew cant make it. Utd 5 Wanderers 4 would be an ideal match. Full of excitement and goals.

I don't support any of the professional football teams in Melbourne or Australia, I don't enjoy the A league at all. We have a semi-pro league in my state, I follow the senior team of the club I where I played as a junior from the age of 6 to 17. Go to most home games since the stadium is a 15-20 minute walk from home.

United would never ever play against us, but it would be a pretty massive. The amount of money and interest of would generate in the club would be huge. I would want us to get up and somehow knock of a team like United but at the end of the day it would just be a great occasion for the club.

Watching the TV or is it watching me
Not really local but my nephew was on Watfords books for 5 or 6 years so used to occasionally get comp tickets, ended up meeting a bunch of lads who I am still friends with now so always look out for their score and go to at least 1 match per season

I go to watch a few Preston North End matches when I get the chance, I don't know if I'd say I support them but I like them and always hope they do well. United will always be my only team though, my entire family have been United fans so I've been locked in for life.

Chesterfield. I’d want united to win but would probably go in the Home end, regardless of where the game was played.

Blackburn are technically my closest team but I hate them as they always used to be a bit of a bogey team for us.

Bolton probably next closest always want them to do well; shame about the current situation.

And United clearly if the teams were to play!

Wrexham.

If it's a cup competition with replays then I'd want a draw as Wrexham really need the cash!

If not then it depends which forum I'm posting on...:nervous:

Wycombe. Season tickets at both, so it still feels like a quality football treat even watching these days United

I'm probably the only United fan who instantly thought, ahhh Europa, more Sunday games = more chance of Wycombe/United double ups

Local team I played for in the 70’s when I was about 8.

We would’ve smashed this current United team off the park. Most of them would never have even seen a case football.

No but I look out for a few teams results as I’ve got a few friends who play professionally up in Scotland.

Bristol Rovers I am ashamed to admit.
If you think that the United owners are bad, you have seen nothing.
The worst ground in the whole football league, no training ground, no ambition and a club loosing over 3 million a year. Just a big fat nothing to get excited about.

Stockport County - born there, played for them for a couple of years, still have great affection ( or should that be sympathy ) for them.

Also I have a weird interest in the fortunes of Brechin City that I've never understood the reasons for other than, perhaps, one weekend in the 1950s I found out they played in red shirts the same as ours in an Umbro ( or was it Bukta ?? ) catalogue that I got from a sportswear shop in Stockport.

Anyway.....Who would I want to win County or Us ,??

Us, of course.....Otherwise I'd be saying that Man Utd are my second team.

Greenock Morton from Scotland and as they are firmly a Scottish championship side they will never play united but if they somehow did then united all the way.

Yeh fair point at the end & I agree- it’s just some might say the smaller local team as they’ll never have the chance to play United again & would be biggest result in their history.

Coleraine FC, I'm a Belfast native, but I used to visit my grandparents on Saturdays & my Grandfather (a United supporter himself) used to take me to the matches... it's also the ground where at the Milk Cup I watched a young Ryan Wilson play fairly well.

I'd want United to win anything other than a friendly.

I'd probably want Atlanta United to beat United just for the headlines, and it would be a pointless friendly anyway.
