Well he's 34, not 44, and his level has declined, got less than 30 goals for Juventus the season, the first time in 10 years. Still very good, because his level was so high in the first place (in terms of goal output) a modest decline will be in top 10-15 strikers in europe. Will be interesting to see how Messi fares over the next few years.

Modric just won the ballon d'or aged 33 as well. Pique and Ramos are still at the heartbeat of the Barca and Real defence still in their 30s.

Jamie Vardy still having his best seasons aged 32. Buffoon at 41 is/was still playing a high level.. Not every player is like this, but there is certainly more of them than before.
There are? Do you have any proof of that? Nevermind winning the Ballon D’Or at 33 when it’s been won at 41...

Ronaldo has played at the highest level since 2003 playing pretty much every week, often more than once. Look at the number of games he’s played in his career compared to other top players and it’s a huge difference. Especially since pretty much all of them have been at the highest level, he didn’t go to play in the US or Qatar.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_footballers_with_the_most_official_appearances

He’ll end his career with the outfield player with most games played in football history.

Modric is a good example but then you talk about defenders and goalkeepers which are completely different. The only other top forward I remember at this age was Zlatan. For every example you give there are 1000 examples of players declining or retiring very early.

Ronaldo’s longevity is not normal or in line with what happens to other players of the same generation in any way whatsoever. Completely taking longevity away from the discussion when comparing to past legends because of advancements in sports science is bullshit.

A bit oot but thats a Lukaku level first touch/first time right there.
I wonder why doesnt he do that often? He is more than capable to thread passes like that but its rare to see him try it. Ive seen people saying Hazard is better than him . Hazard for all the dribbling skills that he possess he cant pass like that

What a performance. Not only he scored hattrick, his goals are all top quality, and he is dribbling like he is 25 years old. Amazing.

He was very good, took all his goals superbly. He is so good that he makes others around him look better with his movement, converting half chances and also making poor passes look good.

B.Silva's pass was not good but it was Ronaldo's anticipation and acceleration that resulted in chance creation and goal. Hopefully they will win the Nations league.

I've argued that isn't always fair given the incredible advancements over the years made in dietary regimes and training methods to prolong sportstars careers which wasn't available in previous generations. ALL sportstars in almost ALL sports are living longer, in some cases, a lot longer than they ever used to.

- Federer and Serena playing at the top level till the age 40, Nadal and Djokovic will likely follow suit.
- Ronnie O'Sullivan (Snooker I know) playing at a higher level far longer than any of his predecessors.
- Tom Brady still the greatest Quarterback in the world about to 42, unthinkable in previous era's.
- Jimmy Anderson likely to play on till he's around 40, unthinkable for a fast bowler.
- Chris Froome may dominate till he's nearly 40, in previous era's Grand Tour cyclists were washed up by 30.
- Michael Phelps was still winning Gold medals at Swimming in his 30s, which was unheard of in previous era's.
- Lebron still might be best basketball player in the world at 40 (which Jordan wasn't)

Sportstars live FOREVER these days, Messi and Ronaldo aren't unique in this regard. I fully expect Messi and Ronaldo (certainly the former) to be ballon d'Or contenders aged 40.

35 is nothing these days for the modern sportstar. But they are benefiting from the era they grew up in.
All the sportsmen and women you have mentioned are up there as the best or nearly the best in THEIR SPORT of all time, thats exactly the point i'm making. Im not saying they the best athletes of all time, i'm talking only in the context of football players. I was just using Michael Jordan and Fed as examples of Sportsmen who's Goat status is only solidified by their longevity.

Those you have mentioned aren't the average/normal athletes. Although i agree that players last longer these days than they did in the past, the length Messi and Ronaldo have lasted AT THE TOP and i stress "At the top" is not normal. A good 3-4 years at the top would be impressive but these two have done it for about a decade or longer. A name i hear thrown around is Brazilian Ronaldo as someone potentially better than Messi and C.Ronaldo. It makes no sense to me as he was only really at the top for 3-4 years max. He doesn't hold a candle to Messi and C.Ronaldo in terms of longevity. By the same token Maradonna being talked in the same breath as Messi and Ronaldo for a fantastic world cup and a few seasons for Napoli shouldn't be in contention as the greatest IMO.

Not a bad year for Ronaldo:
- Serie A title
- Italian Super Cup
- Nations league (Portugal)
- Player of the Year in Serie A
- Top goalscorer in Nations league

Sarri coming in should see his numbers go up next season, not sure it affects their CL chances in a positive manner though and a last CL title with Juve is really the only thing missing to be able to end his career with a flawless legacy.

No need to make things up to strengthen his year. At least FIVE players scored more goals than he did at the Nations League.

I meant NL final? It’s weird to also include all qualifiers, as they never count it this way with WC and Euro?
So the Nations league is just from Semi finals and finals? I have no idea as I didn't check the format. Always though many teams played nations league.

So if all those are qualifiers, then Nations league proper starts from Semi Finals?

Why laugh? Winning those are not bad, that’s all I am saying.
He's laughing because CR clearly isn't the Nations League topscorer. It seems like they again made some weird stat ranking just to make him feel great - not the first time.
Can't wait for the World Cup GS and World Cup Finals having separate stats
thats gonna be
GREAT

Just let them cope with things however they're able to do so.

After the past three years it's the least a person can do.

It depends how you see the first set of fixtures, you could argue they are more like the qualifiers than the group stage I guess?

I do agree though it’s reaching, ultimately its being top goal scorer over two games.

Have you guys seen the stat that he’s been doing the rounds today ?

Since a Ronaldo vacated the no 7 shirt, there had been 5 subsequent players who have filled it. They have only scored 15 premier league goals between them.

It’s like the shirt is cursed since him
