Let’s hope he’s not young and overpaid though. They’re the worst ones - not proven shite yet but act like they have. He seems grounded though.
15m isn't spectacular money for any half-decent team of Premier League so we won't have any problems recovering it should we want to sell him. Unless he's absolutely shite, which is unlikely. Gives good vibes if you ask me, too when it comes to his character but it may be wishful thinking, you never know. Liverpool and Spurs wouldn't have been the teams they are had they not taken punts on similar stature of players so there's hoping.

So did he play well or not, didn't catch the game?
It was a horrible match but he was probably the best player out there. Had a couple of good runs and almost got an assist so you could say that he did quite well considering how limited Wales is.

Well look how players like Pogba are treated on here. No one is safe, the supporters have high (often lofty/unrealistic) expectations of anyone wearing that red shirt. By you mentioning where he came from you're insinuating that fans should expect him to play like an inexperienced championship player, but that won't cut it at United in the long run. I don't think anyone is expecting him to be Messi-like, but i've seen deluded posts about him taking Martial's spot, becoming a dead cert starter in his first season etc
The expectations and evaluations should be made based on the given player's talent and ability. When Pogba plays shite then he gets lambasted, because we know his quality. When he does so-so, he's called uninspiring. Before he went to shite, there was a thread on here which suggested he's the best midfielder in the world ffs so treat him accordingly.

They were awful this week. James the only positive tonight - Hungary kicked him at every opportunity.
Just pointing out that people shouldn't read too much into Wales games.

I meant overpaid as in with his wage - which I doubt he will be but Rashford wasn’t when he started out. Now he’s a bit of a drip after the new contract. (Still rate him btw). And I agree, I love these type of signings as long as they work out and we don’t keep shit around for too long. Jones didn’t work out like we’d hoped, for example, and he’s still here.

Jones was meant to be a future collosus at the back. Far more hype if you ask me. James is a punt for me. If he's good enough as a relevant squad player/great option for some games in the long run then I'll be happy for that price. Anything more will be a masterstroke.

Thanks. Not bad then. Wales are proper shite so showing promise is positive.

I see Steve's sanctimonious self-aggrandising nature does not just confine itself to the Solskjaer threads. Good to know.

This is getting annoying. I've literally never said that. You are a strange one.
All this furor stemming from me not considering James an 'outstanding dribbler', you can't even answer the question yourself . Alrighty then.

You know what, regardless of how good James may or may not be at this stage in his career, he is a player that is simply exciting to watch, and for that reason alone, I'm very happy we signed him.

Same here. Just to see some terrifying pace, directness and willingness to move on the wing again will be a welcome change.

This is the whole point. He's a gamble but a cheap one with hopefully a big upside. I will enjoy watching his progress anyway.

Is this not the kind of punt, that people moan we don't take.

Like not going for MaGuire when he was at Hull, Maddison from Norwich or Brooks from Sheff Utd.

It's a relatively cheap gamble, on a player with potential. Who isn't going to lose much resale value.

I think he looks exciting, interested to see how develops.

Looks a very promising player. Thought he was the best Welsh player on the pitch.

I couldn’t understand why a big club wasn’t sniffing around Brooks. Was a bit of a shock that Bournemouth were the ones to step in.

Thought he played well in the game, the good thing is that he can travel relatively fast with the ball under control, I think Martial is the only player who is competent at dribbling in this regard.

Giggs resembles Solskjaer with his management, questionable selections and tactically he looks out of depth but atleast Ole is organised in our defensive shape, Wales have a Arsenal-esque defensive discipline. He'll be gone within a year.

His dribbling does look good, even when he's running at full pelt. I think this lad from Beverley is gonna surprise alot of people next season.

It seems some are very emotionally invested in putting down the lesser fancied signings/potential signings like James and Longstaff at every opportunity.

I don't really get why people do this when they have barely seen the lads play.

This kid running at defenders with tired legs.

Yeah. His dribbling looks good and defenders fouled him so many times to deal with him

Exactly. Moan all you want after we see enough of the player. But at this stage, it doesn't make any sense to be so invested in your negative views on the player. I mean, he's been signed for 18 million after all. It's not like a big money signing which is going to have a lasting impact on the football club either.

I liked the look of him yesterday. He's rapid, got decent ball control and positioning.there is a lot that the coaches at united to do with that kinda potential.

Whatever dude. Challenge the observation
There is nothing to challenge, go and check how many games he played 90 mins in the games he started, it's easy to debunk "he is 70 mins player".
