I wouldn't want Oblak to replace him due to footballing reasons. Oblak is a keeper that shares too many similarities with De Gea.

I would prefer someone someone that is capable with his feet and can command the box to a good standard. I also woudn't mind seeing Henderson/Romero fight it out next season. I think we can take a risk in the goalkeeping position and spend the bulk of our money on outfield players. We can reassess the keeper situation at the end of next season.

Like Pogba I'd rather we kept him but if he wants to play elsewhere unless we pay him ridiculous numbers then adios.

I'm kind of hoping we see a mass exodus at the club and rid all the uncommitted but it's too complex, given the contracts in place.

All in all there isn't one player at the club right now I'd be gutted to see leave. I used to actually dread the thought of losing some of our players under fergie and some did leave but these lot do not have the same effect.

Just sell him and be done with it. The club needs to make some tough decisions. If he is not signing a new contract, then sell him and get a replacement quick.

Great point Emilio, aside from the fact that he's been replaced in the Spain team by CHELSEA's Kepa.

It's a bit worrying that we are paying this guy when he's coming out with garbage like this.
Silly quote from him. Wherever Dave goes he needs to take his baby sitter. Worst goal keeping coach ever. How the feck Ole doesn’t realise is beyond comprehension. It’s not only players, back room staff need to be top notch as well. Problems at United would be solved if we didn’t have such incompetent people.

An incompetent ceo is running the club.

Saying he cost us top 4 is way over the top in my opinion.

The team was dreadful as a whole, it wasn't down to any single player.
I agree it wasn't soley down to him, however there is no escaping the fact that those INDIVIDUAL errors cost us big time.
In particular, the ones against our direct rivals for top 4, Arsenal and Chelsea. In both of those matches, we were playing really well and then those errors just killed all our momentum.

Also, it's becoming pretty tiresome the way that it's seemingly OK to come out with statements like "If it wasn't for him we would be a mid-table side the last 5/6 years" but then when people try to point out the blindingly obvious fact that he was a big reason we finished outside the top four this year, then they get accused of being disloyal or on some sort of agenda.

I agree there was mistakes from him that cost us in games, but I also think so many other players under performed and made mistakes, amongst other issues we had, that it all congealed together into one dreadful run-in with many issues and mistakes that we just weren't going to recover from. He definitely was poor this season overall there is no getting away from that. But we were in such a bad way even after our initial good run that I had no real confidence of anything for the last few months of the season.

I, like most Utd fans, was full of confidence up until that Arsenal match.
That was the game that killed all the momentum and, as I said, it was De Gea's error that killed all momentum within that game.
Again, I'm not saying it's all his fault but every run of bad form has a trigger and that was it.

Looks like he's no longer Spain first choice. Kepa has displaced him.

He is. People forget so quickly.
He's not even the best Spanish keeper at the moment. He's not going to keep the title based on previous good seasons when his current form isn't as good.

DDG has been this teams best player for years, and quite frankly was this teams leading star all the way up until 8~ rounds left of the season.

I dont know what happened, but I sure hope he's working with a mental coach over the summer. In DDGs defense he does have a very excellent track record to defend his ask. You look at the sum of the whole, not just the parts that pisses you off.

He had been magnificent and our best player the previous 5 years but for the last season he has been average with few great games and thus he's definitely not the best keeper in the world at the moment. He's not going to keep the title irrelevant of his current form, as simple as that.

I'd prefer him to stay, but if he's going to arse about and it's true he wants money to leave this summmer I'd be ok with benching him and go with Romero.

We best not fold to his demands. Another example of us being the opposite of ruthless.

He ‘was’ the best in the world we shall see if that remains. He sure isn’t better than Becker and Ederson at the minute.

Maybe he isn't the best in the World on current form, but you are right people are fickle and forget very quickly.
Mate 4 years ago Neurer was the best in the world. No one talks of this now. People can lose there title. It’s not fickle at all. Example everywhere.

Hopefully he signs. Still the best GK in the World
How good he is compared to other keepers is too open a debate for my tastes.

What I do know is that at his best he is a remarkably brilliant goalkeeper and (given his age) I see no reason to believe he won't get back to his best after what was a poor post-world cup season.

More to the point, when he is at his best he is a remarkably brilliant goalkeeper who is already a Manchester United hero. Which means I don't really care if there are a few goalkeepers better than him, he's who I want at the club.

Though obviously if he won't sign a contract you sell him, wish him well and move on.

DDG was probably the best GK a year ago, not 4. And my point was not about being the best in the World, yes I agree with you title change especially this kind of titles that are not validated by an award. But the general lack of sensible assessment by United fans regarding De Gea is pathetic. Yeah he had a rough last couple of months, but there was a poster calling him scumbag couple of days ago, while he was and is still for me at least a God like figure in this team of spineless shits.

And yet he’s been benched for Kepa.
Because it goes off current club form, DDG wasn't great the back stretch of last season, whereas Kepa won a trophy and got top 4 with his club. Doesn't mean DDG has lost all his world class ability, form is temporary, class is permanent. If he went to PSG we'd regret it, Henderson isn't ready and Romero isn't good enough to be no 1.

He was terrible for Spain last summer and has been inconsistent for over a year now.

He has serious deficiencies in his game. Rooted to the line, doesn’t sweep up or command the area or communicate and his kicking is horrendous. He looks to be going the way of Casillas only he was never as good as Casillas in all areas aside from shot-stopping. And at least Casillas had an appetite for the big stage.

Offering him another four or five year deal is a much scarier prospect for me than moving on from him.

If we’re truly trying to improve DDG’s style doesn’t suit us anymore anyway.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the bolder part mate. I just can't see it looking good on us from those (transfer targets) looking from the outside in, if we're losing our best players.

I hope this isn't true. He shouldn't be getting any improved contract from us on the basis of his recent form. I think we should take the opportunity and move on. I don't trust anyone at the club to insist he improves his distribution and command of the box. He certainly won't improve with his cheerleader/coach.

We will still have problems in defence no matter who we buy (even if it was a young Franco Baresi), because he doesn't instil any confidence with his lack of command. Same thing for his national team, but they're not as dumb as we are.

We should get a modern keeper, or at least insist that Dave commits to making necessary improvements with a top goal keeping coach in place, with his mate out of he club.

I personally believe we'll regret it. I also hope I'm wrong, but I have no faith that he'll start next season better than what he served up recently.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

This is de gea we're talking about. Years and years of excellent service and we want him sold for 6 months of bad form? Seriously?

Him wanting out is one thing, we want to move him on is another.

Romero plays good for 10 games and we want him to replace the player that's playing good for 8 years? And thinks itllbe fine?

De Gea is a good keeper with great reflex, but he is overrated too (remember many here think he is better than big Pete and VDS, well he surely is not). There’s a reason why Buffon doesn’t rate him when he pick best 5 keeper in the world some year ago.

It’s same thing. If he want out and leave for free, we get nothing.

Yes but it’s one thing to say we want to sell him because if we don’t we’ll lose him for nothing, it’s something far greater to say we want to sell him cause he’s shit anyway, following a (relatively) poor season.

Jamie Jackson is saying we will definitely sell him and won't want him to leave on a free. The issue might be finding takers with PSG favouring Donnarumma from Milan and Madrid no longer interested.

I love Dave but honestly feel it's time to cash in on him and sign a modern sweeper GK that's good on the ball DDG isn't going to be any better than he is now he's no Buffon who can play till he's 40 and his best attributes(reflexes and shot stopping)rely on athleticism which will start to decline as he approaches his 30s like Casillas

His reputation has taken a hit recently. To anyone outside United, he's the Messi of keepers in terms of his salary - but not in terms of his overall ability. Shot stopping? Outstanding, nobody will deny that. Other aspects, though? Hardly anything special.
