Could you imagine if we end up signing him, but for more than the figure quoted last season?

Would be a right chuckle.
For the rest of the country.

If we spend on mcguire why waste one season complete and end up in Europa league. The press just keeps linking it no matter what.
I'm afraid anyone still spelling Maguire wrong has no business on this thread :wenger:

Why don’t we offer Jones plus 40m cash to Leicester. Worth a try.
1 -

2 - Tell Brenda he's highly rated on football manager then there is a high possibility of that deal happening.

Man City are odds on to sign Maguire now, and we were at 3-1, so this is surprisingly to me at least looking more like City are seriously in for him.
Ed will be storming in with a 400k a week offer don't worry.

I get why we're going for the likes of Macguire and Wan Bissaka. The prices quoted for both are nuts, and yeah of course we'd rather see us buy younger players with higher potential, but we're not really in a position to be buying potential anymore.

The main question is Macguire going to improve our defence and make an instant impact? Yes. Will Skriniar, Koulibaly, Milenkovic, Tah, De Ligt? The answer is yes for all of them but there's also an element of uncertainty about them. Will they adjust? For the younger guys, will they reach their potential?

The likes of City, Barca and other top clubs can pick their moments in the market. Jorginho goes to Chelsea, Guardiola is under no pressure and just waits a year for Rodri or the next best alternative because they're under no pressure. We don't have that luxury. We're going to get fleeced in the market for sure because clubs know we're desperate, but we need to improve the team regardless of the cost. Macguire are Wan Bissaka are known quantities proven in the PL and right now it just makes sense. Maybe the summer after next, after hopefully a couple of shrewd transfer windows we can look to scouting uncovered gems because hopefully we'll be in a position where we can take that chance and not have it have a potentiallly negative effect on the next season as we'll hopefully have a settled squad.

Wan Bissaka is only 21. Maguire is 26, if we get Maguire surely we should expect 5/6 good seasons from him. Bear in mind we still have Tuanzebe in our ranks.

But if I'm honest I can't see us beating City to Maguire.

True, I guess what I mean is that even though Macguires relatively young, and Wan Bissaka is still really young, there are better and much cheaper options out there if we look hard enough. The problem is that we can't really take the chance because we need an instantaneous impact on the team from a known quantity, so i feel like its inevitable we're going to get fleeced, but it might be a necessity for the next couple of windows.

We can't afford another Lindelof situation where a foreign player needs a season of adjustment. Ideally, we should have bought an experienced RB last window and be spending 20/30m on Dalot now if he continued to develop, knowing he has time to learn and the team won't suffer.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that Macguire and Wan Bissaka, if we get them, aren't the best options out there, but they are in terms of what we need right now.

First of all they aren’t desperate to sell and not desperate of a new centre back if Maguire stays, so doubt they even put Jones as around 20m player.

They will tell us to feck off with that offer. They will demand more than that probably around 60m plus Jones or even more.

Bit underwhelming after being linked to Koulibaly and De Ligt, but a good defender nonetheless.

Unfortunate for us that he seems to be the best available, but I imagine he's still a marginal upgrade on what we've got.

They’d probably make a gurn similar to one Jones makes most games :wenger:

I don’t know how to feel about Maguire. I remember him playing against us when he was at Hull and him visibly standing out as a cut above the rest and thinking he was way too good for Hulls level. I guess you’ll never know until you actually do it. He could end up being the best high profile defender we’ve signed since Rio or he could be found out at the highest level like Schneiderlin.

In before some wag says it'd either be 80m straight, or 90m + Jones. :wenger:

Was expecting replies like this

So if a bunch of us randoms on here can see what a joke Jones is, how any of us can be confident in Ole and the club for renewing him.

He’s our manager now and we should stick behind him. And also, Can’t always judge manager based on that aspect only. Let’s take an example.

I believed in Sir Alex’s ability as manager even though he said Phil Jones is the next Duncan Edwards.

You didn’t have faith in Sir Alex?

Well Sir Alex is the greatest manager of all time and Ole has managed Molde.

Maguire since to have taken the Jesse Lingard's and Danny Welbeck's fix. He will keep on being considered as a kid up until he's 34

let's not forget we had a 95 million bid rejected for Koulibaly under Jose's reign and it looks like we never convinced De Ligt to join the rebuild. I don't envy the shortlisters jobs after having your top 2 candidate say no pretty quickly.

Would rather go for Toby for 25 million than spend over 70 million on this guy.

Or rather buy them both and feck off Smalling, Jones and Rojo.
i'm starting to think if we aint signing Maguire, we will likely play Jones or Mike with Lindelof. No idea where Bailly stands atm either. Christ we are a mess.

It's not just £25m. It's £25m plus a big signing on fee and extortionate wages. To be worth next to nothing in a couple of of years.

I always have faith in SAF despite some sketchy buys. After 8 years though we can all see how shit he is and that is the valid point.

He's good on the ball and in the air and has a good attitude, his mobility and agility are the biggest issues, they'd be less so if we could trust Bailly to partner him as he has great speed and athleticism.

Agreed, was saying to a mate that if we got Alderweireld, Maguire and Meunier and promoted we could get rid of a lot of the others.

If he goes to City and does well then Mourinho's smug levels will be through the roof.

What's even more comical is Jose turning his nose up at him 2 years ago, when he was worth £17 million, insisting Lindelof for £30 million was much better value. Then a year later throwing tantrum after tantrum because we won't buy him for £80 million.

I'm really 50/50 on Maguire, the money being talked about is madness, would personally not value him over 60m but that's just me, if were talking about 80/90m then why not just pay the extra 10m and go all out for Koulibaly.

Also, (not seen much of him maybe 2/3 games for Portugal) but that Ruben Dias looked very good, classy on the ball, strong in the air, quick, reads the game well and I think his buyout is €53M, which seems like a far cheaper option than 80m for Maguire, but as I say only seen that Dias a handful of times so not enough to see how good he is consistently.

Pros for Maguire, great in the air, leader, dominating, brings the ball out of defence very well, good passing, massive threat from set pieces.

Cons - Price, lack of pace, worry that he can be turned easily by pacey attackers.

But he would be a huge upgrade on the chuckle brothers and Rojo. Maguire Tuanzebe Lindelof Bailly, not to bad for CB cover I guess.

I'm still not sold on this guy - part of me thinks Pep is playing games so we spend a fortune on him like we did with Sanchez

Would be a poor signing for the money quoted.

Surely there at better options out there.
