I'm cautiously optimistic about this signing. For all the talk about signing proven quality, etc., we needed to upgrade our squad both in quality and in attitude, and James seems to bring both of those. I'd rather him be running at defenders than Lingard, and if he continues to work on his technique he could jump from being "dangerous but not a world beater" to something much greater. Let us not forget that Giggsy himself wasn't blessed with the sort of trickery to shake defenders out of their boots at a standstill, but he had a mastery over hip and body fakes developed extremely sharp cuts that, combined with his incredible pace, was enough to tear up the wing for years. I'm not saying James is anywhere near Giggsy's skill with body feints yet, but it's something he can and should focus on improving because when you're as fast as him, all you need is to throw the defender off for a split second and then you're gone. I hope the fans accept him with open arms - seems to have a good head on his shoulders and genuinely wants to be here. That's refreshing these days.

Young, hungry, hard working, pace to burn, looks like he has a good final ball and been impressed with his decision making, will scare the life out of defenders and will be rapid on counter attacks.

This is my kind of signing, gets the ball and wants to attack, run at defenders, create, love it!

I would imagine he will start as Martial back up on the left (if Sanchez goes), if Marital does not buck up his ideas he could soon be on the bench.

He has speed but he runs with the ball at control, this is something that is key for a player who's a hit and run merchant vs someone who can utilise speed in tight spaces.

Sad to hear about his father but hopefully him being here earmarks a positive for his year.

I hope he does well but from the clips I've seen of him for Wales I'm not overly excited now. Players with explosive pace can become predictable and easy to defend against, I haven't seen him really show he has a trick or two up his locker other than pace.

Hope I'm wrong and he turns out to be fantastic straight away but I think it's more a long term project than straight into the first team.

Do players get announced twice now?
We announced we'd reached an agreement subject to signing and we've now announced he has signed. We do it all the time. We announced RVP subject to medical, then announced when it was all done.

Seems a down-to-earth lad who wants to work on his football rather than start a clothing range, so hopefully he has a good first season with us and can step up.

The Burnleys of the league won't be able to play such a high line with this fella kicking about.

Exciting signing this, Young and British.
this is becoming such a weird talking point as if the league isn't full of poor british players. our own squad has a british core but somehow "young, hungry and british" has become the key to "get us back to the top"

The lad is currently bagging about 1k followers per minute on twitter.
We make the players famous, they will get the privilege. Always be grateful.

Welcome Daniel James, this is the signing I'm very excited about.

We all love United
Hope he's nothing like Obertan who was just all about pace and an alien head but useless at everything else. Come on Daniel lad!

Get us back to the top? No chance pal, I am expecting a hard fought fight for 6th with Arsenal, Leicester, Everton, Watford and Wolves. This club lost its ambition to fight at the very top a long time ago. Make your peace with that fact and everything's rosy.

Wow he is absolutely rapid. He seems like a good lad and I hope he puts his head down and works hard. United will give players everything they need to succeed but they have to want it! I hope that shapes our transfer strategy for the next few windows.

Kind of player Dalglish would have signed as Liverpool manager.

He will have been getting lumps kicked out of him in the Championship as well so hopefully he has a big pair of balls for the Premier league.

His quality is yet to be proven as he wasn't exactly the Star of the championship. his pace is terrifying though.

Aye, his quality is still unproven. But it's still a step up from an academy player (be it Chong, Gomes, or whomever), as he did prove over the back half of last season that he can be successful at the Championship level - as we've seen from loaning out our promising academy lads to lower level sides, it isn't always easy to step from the youth team to playing against grown men, and many hyped up youngsters fail to kick on even at that low level. James isn't bringing an incredible resume, but I feel more confident that he'll adapt to the PL and start producing semi-frequently, than I do about throwing a youth player on the wing and expecting the same. More concisely: I expect more from him than I do from our hyped youth players, or from any of the average wingers at mid-table sides, but obviously I don't expect his immediate quality to come close to matching that of most wingers at the top clubs around the world.

Sad about his dad not being alive to see him

I'm glad weve got him sorted nice and early in the transfer window so he can fully join in pre season and the tour and our coaches can start to work with him hopefully itll be the same for most of our signings

He has pace but does he have the skill to really exploit it? Stats dont really back him up but lets see.
If we buy a genuine RW and someone like Bruno and play him on the left, his electric space will create chances for the other 2 and they will score lots of goals. I don't really rate Martial anymore to be honest, though I hope he proves me wrong.

One step at a time. First Ole needs to coach some guile into him so that he channels his pace into something constructive as opposed to running into brick walls like Lingard. Its' true stats don't favor him overmuch but at his age, nothing's a given. Let's see.

Where could he play in a 442 (diamond) formation?
