As long as we suitably replace him I wont be sad to see him leave, isnt the Italian league supposed to be a lot slower so that will suit him.

I found his first season with us decent, but while he did score the important first goal in our PSG comeback the fact the app cut out just as the ball was headed towards him the fact I was expecting to refresh it and them to say his first touch had let him down says a lot, unfortunately I think it's the biggest weakness in his game and will restrict him potentially at game changing moments/ if we end up back in the big cups and finals, I found I preferred him when he was putting the crosses in he put in the odd good one however it's not really what you should be saying about your main striker

He was also surprisingly easily weak for a guy of his size and while I saw improvement in some of his most recent games for us, lazy.

However do we think if we had an Alexander Arnold type pinging crosses into him he would be more prolific or would his first touch still hinder him?

I do hope we invest the money in an upgrade as "Rashy's" decision making isn't good enough to rely on him only. It would be nice to see Greenwood given some games but no way can we rely on him and being young his decision making wont yet be fully developed

Icardi- Haller- Vardy - Benzema - Dembele - Arnautovic - Werner

I’m at no point saying these strikers are levels but there not going to cost us £80m and if you think our season relys on having a friendly giant with no touch I pray for you.

Like I also said it give us extra cash to get what we really need. A winger.

Want me to name those to?
The reported Haller and Dembele links make more obvious sense now with this news.

Hope we absolutely fleece Inter for the fee. After they tried selling us Perisic for £50m.

When you look at his stats for club and country, it makes you wonder if selling him might be a mistake.

It is a mistake. He is just being used as a scapegoat for our fallings! It's a bit depressing that Shaw was our best player last season, I thought he was just OK. That's how standards have lowered at Utd.
Get a better manager, that
1. doesn't throw the players under the bus and devoid them of all confidence
2. Then a manager that blames fitness as the problem, and wanting to get rid of our best players, cause they don't have confidence in him!

Replace Lukaku with Haller! Jesus. Have you seen him play?

Have you seen his touch and build up play?! He's good damn awful at football. But a good enough goalscorer to demand £80M.. So hopefully he's out the door.

If he's really that bad why Utd would ever ask for him 80 millions €??? This is crazy, Duvan Zapata from Atalanta costs 30 millions lesser than him and he's probably better than Lukaku.
With that said, I would welcome an attack Lukaku, Lautaro with Dzeko coming from the bench.

I'm surprisingly very impressed with Ole if he is showing Lukaku the door.

The first thing Klopp did in his summer transfer window was to flog Benteke who's stock was still relatively high at that time. It didn't matter that Sturridge had injury worries and his form was problematic. I didn't matter that he didn't get a centre forward signed. It didn't matter that on paper he'd weakened the CF position.

He moved Firmino central who was far more suited to his system and changed the shape to accommodate a more fluid style.

Irrespective of who we bring in getting rid of Lukaku needs to be a priority whilst his value is still decent. Whether we only have Rashford, Martial and Greenwood that can play centrally is somewhat secondary to having a clear identity and strategy in my view.

He’s a poacher and that’s it. Got no first touch and he can’t even hold up the ball. Like he’s 15stone 6’1 and has no hold up play. Who made him.
If he had a touch like Owen he'd be amongst the best strikers in the world.

He's definitely leaving after comments like that. Couldn't care less, he's a decent striker at best, and a flat track bully. Other than PSG away and a handful of matches, he's struggled to impose himself in the clutch games. And even then, he's not a super clinical finisher at the least.

But two things for me :
1) We need to buy a striker now/ somehow add goals, because Raahford and Martial will not be scoring enough to compensate.

2) Those cnuts wanted 50M for Perisic. I hope we rinse them completely. We are at a stronger position here, and we should take complete advantage of it.

And replace him with Rashford ?
This is a huge mistake .
Why are we not selling the likes of Lingard , Jones , Smalling , Rojo Sanchez etc before considering selling Luakua
I was all for Ole getting the job but looking at whats going on now and the type players we are targeting i think his term of management will make the Moyes era seem like a roaring success .
Yep it’s concerning..We definitely aren’t making top 4 if Rashford is our main striker next season- lacks composure, weak on headers & won’t score enough.

Strikes me as if Ole is just making calls that’ll appease the ex united brigade & media who’d love to see Rashford up front & been bleating for years about it

Lukaku has made more of an impression and contribution since he has been here than Jones, Young, Rojo, Lingard, Sanchez, Mata etc.

Plenty of others who should be shown the door first before Rom.

He was at his best in the game at Burnley last season, when he used his pace and power to bully opponents through the middle. But most teams play too deep against us for that to work very often.

Honestly thought he'd be a short-term option and that looks like how it's going to turn out.

That's the worry. I like Rashford but he's not going to carry the goalscoring load on his own. Maybe Ole sees Greenwood as first-team material.

The sympathy for Lukaku is bizarre. He has made no attempt to lose the muscle weight he gained after the world cup and has therefore looked lethargic for a year. He also regularly makes comments about wanting to move to Italy.

We also have Greenwood, on the brink of the first team. I have no worries about Rashford "bearing the burden" as the main striker. Our problem was not just failure to take chances but also that we created so few in the first place. If we create more chances, we will get more goals, regardless of who our main striker is.

Spot on. Someone with a bit of vision around these parts is mighty refreshing to be honest.

No. Our club falling into mediocrity isn’t funny

Replacing Lukaku with Rashford would be a terrible decision
Yeah, let's sell a player who is a born goal scorer! The guy has scored nearly 200 goals for club and country and is only 26.
How many career goals do Messi and Ronaldo have? And they are how old!
Let's all get brainwashed in this young British mantra the board and Ole are trying to sell us!
What the hell do people want?
Somebody said that Klopp sold Benteke in the peak of his form, no he didn't, he was injured half the time. And has it not occured to anyone that Klopp might be a 10 times better manager than Ole!

There is no spoon.
Not using him as a scapegoat aside, his first touch is absolutely atrocious and needs to play in a certain way to be of use to us. Given his post match comments he can pack his bags and leave for all i care.

A striker who contributes to the play, can control a football and can make more than one sprint per half.

I agree with dodging the 'best of British' manta as well though. Last thing we need is the next round of English mediocrity to fall off the conveyor belt. Rashford is nothing more than a decent prospect as an inside forward at this point.

We need a replacement for Lukaku who will comfortably walk into the starting eleven ahead of Rashford.

Why does he have to choose a club that can't or doesn't want to pay us a good fee?

We're sort of in a bind, because we won't get a top transfer fee from Inter, yet if we let him stay, his value will probably plummet considerably. In addition, he might become toxic in that dressing room.

He clearly doesn't suit Ole's style of play (I'm assuming it's what we saw before the injuries), so it doesn't make sense him hanging around on huge wages.

Personally, I would take a loss on him and make the decision not to get anymore players like him who are so technically deficient. Again, a clear idea/philosophy and an experienced person in charge of our transfer strategy would prevent us paying big money for misfits and then having no takers for them if things don't work out, unless we sell on the cheap.

I would not sell him till a replacement is in situ. Tony and Rashy are nowhere near good enough to lead the line. I love Ole but I fear he has a fatal blind spot when it comes to Rashford. And Rashford has a fatal blind spot when it comes to thinking he is way better than he is.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

The main difference is that Lukaku doesn't want to be only a squad player so actively wants to leave. The others barring maybe Sanchez are happy to stay as squad players. Not to mention he will bring in a larger fee by himself than the others you named combined (which can then be put back into the team), and would be on significantly higher wages than all of them barring Sanchez.

Also Lukaku was comfortably our worst player (and I honestly believe the worst regular starter in the entire league) in the first half of the season just gone. That, combined with his unsuitability to playing in the style that we showed when Ole first took over, means he's right up there in the list to sell.

Am I missing something, is Italy still not a slower, more technical style of football?
ie the opposite of what would suit him?

Do you honestly think Rashford is the better striker?
Well as a striker this season Rashford contributed to 12 league goals in 1720 minutes while Lukaku contributed to 13 goals in 2130 minutes. If Rashford is worse it's not by much.
