Not bad.

Understood.

I was just taking a piss mate. I agree that he should just focus on football and not get caught up with the fame and gold diggers that comes with playing for Manchester United. I m sure his Instagram account is already flocking with girls telling him how cute he looks when in reality he is just an average looking lad.

I just finished watching this video of James' MOTM performance vs Stoke and if I am going to criticize him, it's going to be that from the left side he cuts in too much. I want to see wingers taking their man outside and getting to the byline for a cross or cut back pass. This is why I think Sanchez hasn't been successful. Even when he had his man outside he would always stop to cut back in to his right foot which would slow up play. When you take your man outside you don't lose momentum and you attack at pace. Not only that, but if you get tackled the ball either goes out for a throw or a corner. When you are tackled cutting back in the ball typically goes back up field which can lead to a counter. I want to see our wingers be wingers. I want them to think "assist first", not "score first". A great example of that is when Pep starts Sterling and Sane. Sane (a left footer) starts on the left and Sterling (a right footer) starts on the right. They take their man outside more often than not and create so many tap in goals because of it. I hate this whole "left footer on the right and right footer on the left" crap. We always end up being too narrow because of it. I am excited to see James play, but I just hope he plays on the right...

I hope plays on the right as well burning defenders for pace and creating space for our left sided players.

Agreed. I'd be disappointed if he doesn't play predominantly on the right. Our attack is so unbalanced, to the point where if you close down our left hand side (as PSG did at OT), you pretty much nullify our attack.

He should be hugging the touchline to stretch play, beating his man and whipping a cross in. I am 90% sure this is how Ole will deploy him, he's talked a lot about going back to the United way and this was certainly a style of play deployed by Ferguson when Ole was in the side.

Yep, it could work perfectly. We use all our patterns down the left, then a quick switch to James with loads of space - use his pace to destroy the fullback and get a cut back or cross.

We did that pretty well last year, up until it got to Lingard/Mata/Young who couldn't take on a man to save their lives.

From the bit I've seen of him hugging the touchline seems to be the last thing he's normally doing

Really? TBH all I've seen is a couple of Wales matches (the 2 recent ones) and even though he was playing on the left he was playing wide and getting to the byline to put in a cross. I would expect him to do similar on the right.

I've probably seen as much as you in total tbf, he just seemed more pacy wide forward than crossing winger to me

Is he any good at that? All I've seen is he is fast.

Let’s hope that this lad isn’t the next Bellion, Obertan or Bebe. We had high hopes for those players too.

More i watch of him on the YouTube, the more i get excited. He is so direct, so fast, works hard. He reminds me of a young Sterling. At first i was like what are we doing, now i am thinking Ole could of got a gem at 15m!

So instead of buying a left footed right sided attacker, we sign yet another right footed left sided attacker.

Obertan was a hyped on here from what i recall, before he actually played anyway. In the same manner of young random purchase with "potential". We just weren't as desperate then.

Judging by YouTube video, it looks to me he got both his foot as strong foot.
Last season he played 19 times on the left, 6 times central and 3 times on the right. I don't know why we can't just sign someone like Odegaard, who is left footed, plays from the right and is better than all our current attacking players in every way.

Obertan tbf was a punt we took that didn't come off. Even the chaps at Bordeux were surprised we wanted him. The players mental fragility was also brought to everyone's attention by the then Bordeux coach Laurent Blanc.

He is fast and direct, good energy about him and has this desire to win the ball back. He is pretty short, has a low centre of gravity and good balance. I am not saying he will be as good, just that he reminds me of him. Sterling at 21 vs james at 21, there is no comparison, sterling was way better.

I really want to see what he's like for 90 minutes for us.

Most of the clips I am seeing are the same ones. (The City highlights and the one where he bursts pass everyone)

I'm pretty sure he says he has played and feels comfortable on the left, right, and centre even? I imagine he'll be getting his starts on the right...or hope so anyway

Would people here really be fine going into the season with James as the starting RW?
This is kind of like when Lindeloff and Bailly signed. People for some reason expected immediate miracles. There's no way this guy will be delivering starter level performances week in week out. I'm excited to see how he develops though

Name and shame..
Haha. I didn't expect Bellion or Bebe to do anything of note, but I'm guilty of it with Obertan. Even when Blanc was bemused at the time that we were in for him I still thought he would be something special.
