From what I’m getting from these reports, it seems like Sporting are trying to flog him off to us more than ourselves trying tooth and nail to get him signed up.

If we really wanted him, we’d have had it promptly wrapped up.

I’ve never seen him play before therefore can’t really make a comment to say he’d be an excellent signing and one that we’ve been crying out for years to make.

To be fair his season only ended on Sunday and he has understandably gone on holiday. I don't think there was any opportunity for us or anyone to wrap this up until the Nations League ended. Now we are properly into vacation time I expect we will see deals being completed all around the Premier League next week and beyond as players return from breaks and make decisions/are avaialable for medicals etc. We wanted our business mostly done by end of June for pre-season but I always expected the period between the 20th and the end of the month to be most active. I am going to join the general panic if deals are not getting done then.

How can Martial get anywhere near our best team?

Overrated overpaid sulking one trick pony
Martial's flaw is that he is not creative, so he can't assist many goals. The good thing is that he is clinical enough in front of goal. I would prefer Odoi instead of him because his potential is huge but we ain't gonna sign everyone we want.

Do people think that this deal is dependent on Pogba leaving. I only ask because keep hearing conflicting things on the situation.

I really hope not. No wonder Pogba is pissed and wants out, what top club has just one midfielder capable of scoring and assists. None except us, our midfield is shite and all the defenders in the world won’t help that.

I think more people question the validity of our and other teams interest given that its a Portuguese team and the history of rumors with clubs from that league.

I mean if you’re banging in 33 goals from midfield and starting for Portugal you’re not bad are you?

I get where you are coming from but I don’t know or can’t really recall anyone reputable that has linked us with this guy. It just reminds me of those annoying Gaitan rumours.

somehow I feel he cant cut in the EPL, Spain or Italy would be good for him and I take Maddison over Bruno

I know you can show their stats to prove Bruno is a better player but look at Portugal league more than that his all round play is no way near to Bernardo Silva or any other top play maker. he got good shot in his locker though.

Clubs like Spurs, City wont pass on these kind of players if his overall game suits to EPL

I feel Van Beek could be a better option as his game more suits to EPL

Maddison or Van Beek for me, What do you think?

Portuguese media have spewed so much nonsense that at this point I wouldn't even trust someone that's been to Portugal on holiday. It's crazy the amound of stories and complete 180's they are doing on a daily basis.

I think if we are really interested in Fernandes a deal could be done very quickly now. Maybe we are waiting to see what happens with Pogba first.

I like Van Beek who can play any position across the middle, and would suit the Premier league. But we might need a more DM if we are to replace Matic.

Our transfer dealing are being led by Woodward: a man who dithered so long on the Fellaini negotiations that we ended up playing £5m more than the buy-out clause.

Quick deals are not the forté of our money men.

 first City, Liverpool, Spurs and now Athletico . Forcing our hand to make the move. I am glad we are not falling into that trap.

I sincerly hope we stay away from him for the quoted price.

I thought ours was bad until I saw the Portuguese ones. Do you believe there's truth in any of the clubs they've linked?
I do but the thing is all 3 of the major media outlets (O Jogo, Record, and A Bola) literally use the same story and quote each other or give the same report for the most part and every day it gets flipped but he clubs to generate more interest to get higher fees and by the outlets themselves who have no idea what they are talking about.

What I will say is where there is smoke there is Friday and the only common name in every report is one...Manchester United so I truly believe they are the main club interested.

City,Liverpool, Inter, Atletico are all names pushed to make United push forward with there offer. I am sure those clubs have inquired and from those inquiries the media portrays it as they are fully interested blah blah blah. I think United is the front runner and they are favorites to sign him.

Record saying PSG are now showing interest. Soon we'll have all of Europe after him.

Thanks for the insight. I assumed our name was just top of the list of random names they were picking.

Seems to me that all European clubs are almost deliberately setting out to screw over our transfer list. Do other clubs really get this much counter interest in ALL of their targets. Fully expect Liverpool to go in for Langstaff next, Barca for Koulibally, and amazed Everton didnt try to snatch James.

Come on Ed get them over the line!!

Portuguese League is way better than the Dutch League. Players from Eredivisie tends to be hit and miss whenever they transfer to EPL. Talents from Portugal in the past 3 seasons include Jimenez, Ederson, Lindelof, Jovic, Guedes, Sanches, Cancelo, R.Pereira, Neves, Carvalho, Patricio etc. Even Oblak and B.Silva came from there. They have the tendency to produce way more class players than Eredivisie recently, I mean just look at the list.

Van de beek will be a good pick up for a decent fee. Ziyech is going for €35m according to De Telegraaf in Holland, so I can see Van der Beek going for around €20m to €25m.

So frustrating that it takes this long. What a poor show for supposedly the biggest club in England. Something has to change at the top.

It's the creative side of him and his general play I'm sceptical about. Forget about his long balls and shots, how can a player who's supposed to be his team's playmaker create only just 9 big chances in more than 30 games he started, despite being his team's defacto set pieces taker. Felix created 12 big chances in the 21 games he started. It's quite worrying. We don't need a player taking shots from nowhere, rather a player who can knit the play and create for the team.

He had thirteen assists in the league alone and all you have to do is watch his Scout Nation video to see how many sitters he created which his teammates missed.

Nine chances created, my arse.

Hm. Created more chances from open play than any other player in Portugal. Despite playing for a team that is below the two best. Only Pizzi had more assists. But he played for alot better team.

Sporting scored 43 goals from open play. Bruno Fernandes scored 11 and assisted 12 of those, 23 in total. More than half. I bet that he was involved in a significant part of the last 20 too.

The longer this goes on, the more I think we aren’t going to sign him. Shame, he’s a good player.

I didn't even bother replying to that comment because of how ridiculous it was.

We won’t sign him. For one he is good, two he is very good at set pieces and three he provides plenty of goals and assists.

Exactly the type of player we need, so we won’t buy him.

I'm talking about the big chances created by him. He created only 9 big chances.
