This club is a complete mess, Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Young and now Mata have all got new deals.... So much for Ole and his we will be ruthless comments
This just reinforces how badly we need to make signings. I can accept the defence, but McTominay should be a squad player or out on loan. Pogbas not interested. And I don't trust any 1 of that front 3 to perform consistently over a season.I know most here won't agree, but I really don't believe renewing Juan Mata's contract is indicative of any negative direction the club is headed in. He's an excellent professional, with wonderful technique, who is happy to stay and help create a positive culture within the club as we move forward. Gomez will get game time, and there are few better mentors. Mata offers something our other players don't, and is still capable of having an impact, particularly from the bench. Yes many of us would prefer a shiny new toy, but I think there are some big arrivals and departures to come this summer.
We really need two teams going into this season, because we won't be able to let off the gas in the league, but we have very little chance of actually winning it. We could win the Europa League though, but to do so we need a strong squad with a blend of legs and experience.
Team 1:
De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Diop, Shaw, Ndombele, McTominay, Pogba, Lingard, Rashford, Martial
Team 2:
Romero, Dalot, Bailly, Smalling, Young, Matic, Fred, Mata, James, Sanchez, Greenwood
This is it in a nutshell.Welcome to reality. If you have a squad full of dross you have to prioritise which dross you immediately replace and which dross you pragmatically keep.
There's no question that we'd ideally replace Mata but ideally we wouldn't also have the guts of a dozen other players we need to replace too.
Nah, lack of quality is our biggest issue by far. Keeping the likes of Mata doesn't help us at allMakes sense to keep him. He’s not the worst player in the squad and as others have said, is a model professional. Bad attitudes and unprofessional behaviour are the more pressing issues in our squad.
What do you mean? You're making out that the opposition to Mata being given a three year contract is evidence of United fans demands for every player being too high. The reality is that United fans do want to see some 'worthwhile' reason for either signing or keeping a player and in the case of Mata it's hard to think of anything that would adequately fulfill this criteria. Not every signing needs to blow your nips off to be worthwhile.
The level of disrespect Mata gets on here saddens me.
I would rather clear out these half-arsed superstars with big names and big wages, who have never consistently delivered in all honesty.Nah, lack of quality is our biggest issue by far. Keeping the likes of Mata doesn't help us at all
Nothing to do with respect, he’s just not good enough anymore. I’d rather see Gomes or Greenwood get his minutes. Not every signing needs to blow your nips off to be worthwhile.

Who?People have been afraid to say it for a long time but frankly speaking Mata is shite. He's so far away from being at the required level.
I'll take Deulefeo, Roberto Pereyra, David Brooks, Fraser, Sigurdsson, Madisson, Lanzini, F. Anderson all ahead of Juan Mata and most of those aren't even good enough for us.
One wanted to stay and one didn’t. I commented for you.Give Mata a contract, let Herrera leave on a free...
...the Spain midfielder has agreed a deal longer than the one-year extension that was initially on offer...Tweet

I rmean i would rather have Mata than Lingard on the bench. He's exactly the opposite of a good option.
You tried to, he chose to leave.Herrera is the squad player we should have signed up. Mata doesn't suit how we want to play at all. Love him but bad move in my opinion.
Everybody like Juan, it is that people are worried the club will treat this like a signing, so not strengthening the team where needed. If some rent-a-gob from the club comes out with 'It's like a new signing' I will punch somebody.Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I still like Mata.
I can see why people want rid of him, but if he does sign a new deal I hope he can be useful for us.
He'd be one of the last players that go for me anyway.
Duffer first reasonable post in this thread for a long time. You've got a long season coming up, potentially 60+ games. Mata will be a help.
'im wot plays for Everton - sorry, Watford?Who?
The problem, and probably the reason why so many people seem upset, is that we'll have Mata on the bench and Lingard in the starting lineup sharing the role of the play-maker.I prefer

Pathetic. This club is run by proper shit heads.Give Mata a contract, let Herrera leave on a free...

Perhaps but a 3 year deal for someone in that role? Not for me sorry.Mata can come useful if utilised in the last 15-20 mins of the game when.the team is chasing a goal.
He s slow as feck but he has the ability to create a chance out of nothing
