The stats paint a pretty clear picture, AWB is very good defensively but meh going forward whereas Aarons is way better going forward while being not bad defensively. Who we sign should depend on what type of football we are planning on playing.

The pass % is also impressively in Aarons favour considering he has been the more attacking RB who takes more risks.

I haven't seen him play, but Norwich were the best side in the championship and scored the most goals (were attacking more)

Palace we mid table and I'd imagine were more reliant on counters.

Those stats dont mean too much. different leagues, clubs with different styles.

Aarons played for the team that won the Championship while AWB played for the 12th best team in the PL. You would imagine that AWB would have better attacking stats if he was playing for the best team in a division below his current one.

And how would that picture look like when Aarons is 21?

Well its not clear because if Crystal Palace were in the Championship they'd win the league just like Norwich and have more of the ball than their opponents so Wan Bissaka can concentrate more on attacking. Wan Bissaka has proven himself in the premier league and no he isnt meh going forward, he's a former winger so he's a good dribbler. Passing is the area he can most improve on

Exactly. When comparing stats people ignore the leagues. Aarons played in championship which is levels below PL and he played for the best team in Championship. Crystal palace are defensive team with less than 50% possession in most games.

Norwich scored 91 goals in Championsip, Crystal palace scored 51 goals. If he can play at similar level in PL then we can compare them.

Aarons was playing in the Championship and AWB in the PL. The standard of player they were coming up with is almost night and day difference. To do a true comparison of stats, it has to be at least in a league which is at the same level.

I think alot of people get confused by all the stats available and use number they do not quite understand.

For instance, does being a good dribler, isolated, make you a good attacker or good going forward? Surely not. But it is listed as an attacking skill, and people therefor use it to evaluate whether a player is a good attacker.

Not sure if you meant to quote someone else, in any case no it doesn't make one good attacker but it shows how player is comfortable carrying the ball, which is also something that is very important for the team.

I would argue crosses and key passes are also not the only metric that shows how good anyone is as attacker, their link up play and decision making is as important which isn't measured by stats.

And why would that hinder him playing full back?

For what it’s worth, I think James’s future is in midfield anyway.
Yeah, he looks like a CDM which was my point. You don't see many heavyweights at full back, it's a stamina position. Lots of muscle mass doesn't work in your favour.

I tend to agree, he lacks a bit of pace for that position but he's a fantastic crosser of the ball and pretty skillful too so can dribble players.

It's not so much the pace. Big muscular lads tend to have better flat pace if less short distance acceleration. It's over the course of a long season a big lad like Reece James thundering up and down the channel over and over again carrying the additional weight of his size in comparison to the more typical full back physique which tends to be more low on upper body mass like Gary Neville or TAA for instance. It just seems to me that a player that big has physics working against him over the course of a season. Fatigue, wear and tear on muscles and joints etc. Of course that may well prove unfounded for this lad but to me he just doesn't look like the blueprint of what a successful full back usually looks like as an athlete.

I think people need to stop pushing this. There’s a trend, in my opinion, of over analysis in football these days, with what you read being more important than what you say.

There’s no algorithm. If AWB was a good dribbler, it will be because he dribbles well when playing football. That, there is little to no evidence of. He’s not a good dribble BECAUSE he was a former winger. That doesn’t supersede the fact that he actually doesn’t dribble well when he plays. There’s no formula. Perhaps if he were a good dribbler he’d still be a winger. Perhaps he wasn’t a promising winger as he relied more on physical attributes than technique.

AWB isn’t a good dribbler, I think that’s clear when you watch him. He’s average on the ball, which is frankly being generous tbh.

The only stat I took notice of was the pass % stat which was comfortably in Aarons favour. And what makes it even more impressive is that Aarons plays with much more risk in the attacking third.

Wan Bissaka I haven't seen too much off. But if he was such a good dribbler, then I doubt he would've been sent packing from from his loan at Cambridge when he was playing as a winger and was the same age as Aarons or older at the time.

You can't compare the 2 players as totally different leagues and the teams they play in play different football.

I personally think AWB we need more as we need a RB who can defend if we wanted a RW/RB we would just play Dalot.

I watched Aarons highlights and I wasn't impressed I think he would be our weak link in defence as he would be getting countered with balls over the top like a game of Fifa.

When Man City beat Liverpool last season in the league they left walker on the bench for a reason and It paid off.

Ah, remember this? People argued that AWB was good going forward as he used to be a winger.

It’s a ridiculous theory. Despite watching him and literally seeing that he isn’t a good dribbler, you decide to call him one, not on the basis that he dribbles well when you watch him, but because you were told he played as a winger as a kid.

I mean, by all means, if you watch him and are impressed by his dribbling then fine. But if you are not, it is because his dribbling is unimpressive. It isn’t that complicated. As they say on Catchphrase - ‘just say what you see’.

In this case, it was probably more about whoscored-numbers than anything else.

Is this kid really that good, that Barcelona want him?
If he’s that good, why isn’t a top 6 PL team in for him? Makes no sense

He’s not really. He’s definitely not better than Semedo currently and the only reason that’s happening is because Semedo is the huge spacegoat for his disasterclass vs Bayern.

Would any of us here take Norwich's young defensive trio to add depth to our squad?

Trio being Godfrey, Lewis and Aarons

Lewis signed for Newcastle for £13m. I wouldn't take Godfrey but Aarons is someone I rate but we have Ethan Laird.

Bayern and Ajax haven't agreed anything so far. Why would he be in Germany?
He posted photos on his Instagram account earlier today that apparently had the location of the place Bayern we’re having photos taken today.

perhaps they talked and he has chosen barca tonight instead - seems that way from reports.
