Brilliant player and captain for us. He sweated blood and was behind most of our winning trophies for this club. Should be respected for that.

Nothing but respect and admiration for Keano. Would literally swap our whole first team for him right now, we’d play our second team with Keane and instantly be better. He was more than just a great player.

What's the caf's thoughts on Ole hiring Keano as assistant ?

I think he should do it. Majority of these players play knowing theres no consequence for their shite performances week in week out. Don't think they'd want to face Roy in the dressing room after those losses to Cardiff/Huddersfield etc.

He will sort out the wheat from the chaff for sure. I do not know how many would last at United? Just a few perhaps. He sure will make Lingard shit in his pants.

I'd love to see Keane back at the club and would love to see the reaction of the dressing room when he walks in.

Would be awesome.

Would love to see it, but won't happen. Would scare the pants off some of our players.

No he's a bad coach and won't add anything except for "getting stuck in". We need modern coaches that knows how to train good football and gives input towards it.

Excellent player and the definition of leader on the pitch.

Since retiring though nothing but a bitter, bitter man and it is sad.

Keane may be a bad manager but as an assistant he would be of much value and especially at United where the players could not be arsed.

Because you think that’s all he did, as the captain of Manchester United, got stuck in?
They love re-writing history. Keane was a fantastic player and one of the best captains football has seen. I'm not his biggest fan but it's ridiculous that there's a good amount of United fans that refuse to recognise his greatness and just see him as a loud mouth player who used to 'get stuck in'

This. Love him as a player and appreciate everything he has done for United but he is a bitter man and some of his comments about Fergie will never sit right with me. Remember when he left Giggs and Neville out of his United XI in that Viera documentary? Sums him up these days.

The ones who are trying to make out that he was an average player are fecking clueless.

Technically poor, tactically awful, negative leader; a butcher on the pitch and a toxic person.

The most overrated player ever. Only rated in the UK and his country.

Vieira on his bad days was twice the player and if Keane played today, he would play for a championship side.

He's a terrible manager too.
Wow. Hated Keane with a passion but respected him by far the most out of any those players on his team. Heart and soul of that efn team.

My second favourite player of all time after George Best, however, I was a child during the Best era.
Keane would be the captain of my all-time Utd starting 11. I even have an autographed picture of him on one of the walls in my inner office.

He’s toxic as a coach, would be a disaster and untenable to have him in any kind of
role at Utd. Fantastic player though.

Incredible player and I have so much respect for his contributions in building United's legacy. Just wish I was born earlier to see Keane in his pomp as he was at the end of his career at our club when I started following it seriously.

It's such a shame the way that his relationship with Sir Alex went so bad, but they both have stubborn personalities in their own way and a clash would inevitably lead to cutting ties, as neither would back down on their views. I just hope they find a way to remedy that somehow before it is too late...

One of the best midfielders and captains I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Entertaining as a pundit. Mixed bag in management, I don't think he's cut out for dealing with modern players on a long term basis.

I don't have a problem in him leaving out Giggs and Neville as he picked Cantona, RVN and Ronaldo up front. Surely they are better than Giggs and Parker is as good as Neville.
As for his comments about SAF, he may be actually right. SAF is no angel either. We do not know what went behind the scenes and I think it was SAF who started it and not Keane.

They're talking about this on TalkSport now.

I would like to see this too. At least we wouldn't have to endure any more "beans beans beans" videos. He'd bring some much needed discipline into a dressing room which is in a state of anarchy.

Great player but not adaptable to the modern game, seemed like he was a disaster with the Irish team as well though happy to be corrected there.

Every player he played with say nothing but great things... Like Andy Cole said with his mate Yorke, Keane is the only ex player that came visit him.
Keane was the only one...is that true?

That doesn't reflect well on a lot of the others if it is.

Absolute legend as a player for us, everything else about him I have zero time for. One of those people that are ok once you are agreeing with them....

Keane had the audacity the point out that a 4-1 defeat against Middlesbrough was a pretty horrendous performance, Fergie couldn't handle it, particularly because he singled out his lovechild Darren Fletcher for criticism(I'm guessing because he played the same position as him and therefore his critique of him had more relevance) and Keane was forced out of the club, pathetic really.

I just saw my post is missing what I was talking about but I think you understood I was talking about Cole time in hospital during his kidney transplant.

Andy will work at the British Transplant Games in Birmingham this year,

and to raise awareness of the importance of donation in future. He remains an ambassador for Man Utd, who have been unstinting in their support, and thanked his former captain, Roy Keane, and strike partner Dwight Yorke, for being there when he needed them most during his illness. “It’s when true friends become great friends,” he said.
www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/andy-cole-kidney-transplant-saved-14311639.amp

Cole appreciates the support he’s had from his former team-mates but singles out his old strike partner Dwight Yorke and Roy Keane for special mention.

“Yorkie’s been phenomenal and Roy phoned me up to ask if he could come and visit me. He turned up at the hospital and we had two hours having a laugh and a joke.

“People have their opinions of Roy. He was a phenomenal player, an unbelievable captain, but to me he’s a special guy.”

Keane had a blazing row with querios and also the mutv interview was a big factor.

The dressing row must have been bad for fergie to state that if keane stayed he would have lost his authority over the squad.

I wish keane could have stayed and retired at united

Keane seems to hate Gary Neville. Singles him out a few times in his second book with passive aggressive remarks, and it weirdly seems to stem from him being a small, full-back.

Do you really not remember how bad Keane was at Celtic?

He was “forced out” of United because he was in massive decline, couldn’t come to terms with it and started acting like a twat and blaming everyone but himself. It must have been really difficult for such a driven perfectionist, but he was clearly finished.

None of that in any way diminishes the fact that he was an unbelievably fantastic player for us for an amazingly long time.

I don't want to imagine what he would do to this lot of players if he was still around.

He would have us in a worse position within 6 months. Players don't respond to that level anymore. They haven't for perhaps a decade before SAF retired. Roy was unique back then in reality in terms of how he reacted compared to his teammates in nearly every situation. SAF mentioned it many times himself how he himself had to evolve his approach because of the change in society etc. Roy was a warrior, a great leader but of a time. Just so happened he was perfectly suited to us and our squad at that time but he was pushed out when that changed.

He was the second best player SAF had (Ronaldo first). Simple.

Especially the current squad. Lingard would be karate kicked out of the windows at Carrington.

Think Keane as assistant manager would cause more problems than it would solve. While the thought of him tearing into Pogba and Lingard about their self-indulgent crap is funny, the thought of him tearing into other players over occasional mistakes is not.

There are quite a few stories of him being a total dick in his previous coaching roles. IIRC he was swearing his head off at Jonathan Walters because physios had told him he could only train 3 times a week while carrying a knock.

Bad at Celtic? I remember him being injured most of the time or playing as an emergency centre back for them but never ‘bad’ . Got the MotM vs Rangers too if I remember.

It was for the best that he left and in hindsight it was a good decision but he was actually still a decent player. The guy was definitely never the force he was after his hip surgery in 02-03 but his last full season in 04-05 was actually a pretty good one for form (Performances against Liverpool and Arsenal in particular). His stats for tackles won and passes were as good as ever and I’d take that over the hill version over Matic any day and that’s not an exaggeration.

You can't turn a rubbish manager into a good manager. No place for charity.
