One of my favourite United-players over the last 10 years (the last 18 months aside)
339 matches....most of them good!

Hmm. And fans have the cheek to talk about player loyalty.I struggle to feel anything at all for him. Wish him the best all the same.
People always seem to forget this. I suppose because it doesn't fit their agenda.Tweet

Pep’s opinion of him as being the best winger in the world at one point during his career, must be overlooked by a Caf random!Goodbye. No doubt he is a fighter - he was never a top talent but he made the most of his abilities. I hope he gets a nice contract somewhere.
Feel nothing for a player who broke his leg at OT and came back to be our player of the season the next year. Who always gave everything. FfsI struggle to feel anything at all for him. Wish him the best all the same.
He doesn’t really strike me as the type who seeks the attention, went out quietly.Don't think he got a real farewell from the club did he? At least if he did it wasn't very public and high profile. He was a United captain FFS.
Me too Tony. That was an excellent game for the memories, shame about the Robben goal towards the end.It might be strange to some, but one game that really stands out in my memory is a Champions League game against Bayern Munich. It was at Old Trafford in my first season and we’d lost 2-1 in the first leg, so we knew we had to go out there and win, but it’s the mood in the dressing room which sticks with me as much as the game itself.
I remember Rio and Patrice were encouraging us all, saying: “We’ve got to win this game for our fans, for our families.” Then we spent about 40 minutes before the game, warming up, preparing ourselves, putting on our strapping and stuff, and then walking out onto the pitch and you could see around the place that everyone was up for this one and fully focused.
So we went out there and we were 2-0 up within 10 minutes, then 3-0 up just before half-time. I made two assists, had one of my best games for United and the whole team was just incredible, with an amazing atmosphere. Somehow we didn’t end up going through the tie because Bayern scored twice and went through on away goals, but still that game is always going to be in my heart.
but he didn't even speak English???????Feel nothing for a player who broke his leg at OT and came back to be our player of the season the next year. Who always gave everything. Ffs
Nani and Valencia absolutely destroyed Lahm and Badstuber in the first half, shame for Olic bullying Carrick and that Robben goal.Me too Tony. That was an excellent game for the memories, shame about the Robben goal towards the end.
I hope he has an enjoyable end to his career at LDU Quito.
You’ll find that I’m not one of those. I’ve repeatedly said that players don’t owe us any loyalty in the same way that the club doesn’t really owe them loyalty either. It’s a mutualistic relationship. Players come and go. That’s the nature of the game.Hmm. And fans have the cheek to talk about player loyalty.
“Always giving everything” doesn’t do anything for me. Didn’t do anything when Felliani left either. If it’s always giving everything and performing at the level of Roy Keane or Rooney then great, but Valencia was simply a one dimensional player who I never warmed up to.Feel nothing for a player who broke his leg at OT and came back to be our player of the season the next year. Who always gave everything. Ffs
He was good but let's not go overboard. It's not just Ronaldo and Messi who were clearly superior players compared to him.Pep’s opinion of him as being the best winger in the world at one point during his career, must be overlooked by a Caf random!
Val was excellent for United overall, yes declined after 30, but trying to make out he was never a top player is just incorrect. Unless you’re comparing him to Ronaldo and Messi, which is unfair on 99.999999999% of all players.
Agreed, let’s be perfectly honest, Pep was wrong. Great managers can be wrong, Sir Alex proclaimed that Phil Jones would be one of Utd’s best ever players!! He was never the best winger in the world, and the other myth is that he was never anywhere near the best RB in the PL.He was good but let's not go overboard. It's not just Ronaldo and Messi who were clearly superior players compared to him.
Agree with first para. Disagree with the second. In the future, when people talk about players with heart, tony V will be there. We just failed to find a proper replacement for him. Post fergie the whole club was in shambles, managers came and gone but he always did his best. He will be remembered fondly, at least fans like me.Agreed, let’s be perfectly honest, Pep was wrong. Great managers can be wrong, Sir Alex proclaimed that Phil Jones would be one of Utd’s best ever players!! At a push 3 excellent seasons out out 9/10 is very average. Turn Back Tony will be forgotten very quickly.
Pitch this to a fan of another club besides United and tell me how it goes. Was at one point the best winger in the world
Didn’t Guardiola say it when he was at Barca? There was a period from about 2010-12 where he really did look the dogs bollocks.Pitch this to a fan of another club besides United and tell me how it goes.
Yeah, well a lot of fans of other clubs would also tell you that Sir Alex payed off most referees, which is why we won so many trophies and that Howard Webb was our "best player".Pitch this to a fan of another club besides United and tell me how it goes.
The referees being paid off stuff mostly seemed to come from Liverpool fans, who during those years were pretty manic (a direction we seem to be heading in ourselves these days as a fan base)Yeah, well a lot of fans of other clubs would also tell you that Sir Alex payed off most referees, which is why we won so many trophies and that Howard Webb was our "best player".
From my experience, the majority of people never give United full credit about our success and accomplishments - most have only half-assed praised for anything related to the club and there is always a "but" about it.
Ok you value your opinion over Pep’s. It’s all about opinions, but some are more qualified. He was good but let's not go overboard. It's not just Ronaldo and Messi who were clearly superior players compared to him.
NeverValencia was world class at points in his career. If he was two footed he would be, I think, comfortably an all time great. Guy had everything you needed to succeed. Drive, motivation, combativeness, work ethic, technique, athleticism.
