It's not a hard point, is it? You're commenting on transfer stories online, but you haven't read any of it online. You're opinion is literally based on something you're trying to tell me you haven't read. Great stuff.
My opinion of the players yes.
Of course the rumours are all online rumours, where else would I have read it?
Again what's your point mate?
Why are you getting your knickers in a twist over this?
I think our transfer window is a shambles and you evidently don't.
What more is there to this?

Rightttt, I'm the one with my knickers in a twist am I?

You whine about our transfer window in a thread about a ridiculous transfer rumour. I say don't beleive all the shit you read online. You seem to get offended by this, and say you haven't read it online. I point out to you you are literally replying in a thread about a transfer rumour you've just read online, for which you then agree you read it online, and you still don't get the point?

I don't know how I can make it any simpler for you.

I'm not buying this one, too illogical. His team, who aren't short of money, have just been promoted after years of failed attempts and he was a big part of that success. He has even less premiership appearances than the other young inexperienced midfielder that we seem to be buying for more than double the price. Now there's rumours of renewed contract negotiations at villa. If I was a mod I'd lock this one now and have done with it.

I had to Google who John McGinn was, I got him confused with John McGinley who used to play for Bolton and thought to myself “surely not, he must be in his 40’s now” ha ha.

On topic though I don’t see this at all especially for £50 million, I think the media have seen Ole crashing British talent and run out of names so threw this one out there. Looks like a mid to lower end of the table signing even if he did apparently do well in the Championship last season, nothing in this one unless Ole and Woodward have lost their minds.

If somebody who has played in a cr*p Scottish league and the Championship is better than the players mentioned, it says a lot about why we are where we are.
Well he looks better than those 3, obviously I've only seen him play against Championship teams. Maybe Fred, Pereira and McTominay would look great in the Championship too. He's a tidy player anyway. I'd take him for £25m or under.

Player, Villa bought one year ago for £2.7m from Hibs is now worth £50m!, according to The Sun. Excuse me, while I nip up my beanstalk to collect a few gold nuggets.

I think he is exactly the type of player we should be signing.

He's got a tremendous engine, he's box to box, high energy, tremendous work rate, eye for a goal and is still youngish so will still improve.

I'm sold on him.

Stop believing every peice of shite you read on the internet. Just because someone has written it, doesn't mean it's true.
A rare rational post on the cafe!

 the outrage at rumors
It’s hilarious to watch. I’d love to analyse the profile of these posters. Perhaps we can have an area where only adults or those with a minimum IQ can post?

Watched Villa in the playoff games and he was a standout performer for me. That left foot is a bit of a wand.
I don't think it's farfetched to think we have asked Villa if he is available but that pricetag is of course nothing but clickbait.

I was a bit worried it was stephen mcginn for a second, who my local boys wycombe had for a few seasons.

We're clearly trying to get ahead of the curb but our standing and reputation in the game means we are forced to overpay for everyone. McGinn looks a real talent and has a great work ethic. He is worth every bit of the fee that we spunked on Fred, another that we were forced to overpay for.

Sometimes you've got to ignore the costs involved, we can't be compared to most teams because the fees are always inflated, it's just the way of the world.

Bottom line is he's a good player, could be really good, but he's untested at this level and it would be a risk. I'd be delighted if we signed him but ultimately I don't think Villa will sell anyway, they just don't need to.

Who the hell is this guy, the same with the lad at Newcastle we were linked with. Has someone done a search on British midfield players under 25 and waited for the hits to roll in. Shambles to even consider this guy. Would prefer to give his spot to Garner.

He has talent, and the work ethic, but for 50m is ridiculous.

Said this before, but this a rumour from the sun, which means it is most likely bollocks. Also, the price tag mentioned means it is absolutely not happening. People will still lap it up though.

Are we Manchester United or Fecking Watford. I know we are pretty crap but seriously is this our level now. I'm praying stories like this are bullshit.

You mean 2? We have signed 2 British players.
I'm talking about the number we have bene constantly linked with and the strategy the club have taken.

Young and hungry, great, but why do they have to be British? Surely it should be about bringing in the best young players wherever they are from.

Obviously, the final judgement of our window will come when it closes

He picked up the award's at Villa's end of season ceremony, and was most certainly a key player in getting them promoted. I think he will do well this season and his stock will increase in a similar way to Coady at Wolves. He could be great, but I would let him have a season first and see how he handles the PL. He's got a year or two before he hits his prime. Not got anywhere near the credentials for our side yet.

I wonder how people would have reacted if it was Jack Grealish instead?

I mean, Fernandes, Ben Yedder, De Ligt, Rabiot, Le Celso, Koulibaly and about 50 others have been "linked with us".

We have signed 2 players, one was a cheap punt on a young, talented winger and the other was one of the best right backs in the league last season. They happened to both be young and British and the lazy tabloids being lazy have now looked for others who fit that mould.

Let's wait and see before we panic.

Yeah, he has got some good talent and grit but this only makes sense as a cheap punt. Otherwise it is better for him to stay at Villa and build on his last season.

I like him as a player like many have said he would add much needed energy to our midfield both in defence and attack..... 50 million though thats.... a lot of money suppose we just spent that on Wan Bissaka who you would have said was worth about 15-20 less the 6 months ago... so god knowes whether 50 million is actually good value.

Still I like the way we are buying this summer, building a squad which can grow together and with the right coaching be ready to challenge in 3 or 4 years. Not try and buy players at or past their prime in a vain hope of competing for trophy's this year, which is never going to happen.

John McGinley was brilliant – not quite good enough for us at this moment however!

He’s a real hyperactive one. Bet his teammates love him. Thing that’s killed him, or the perception of him, is the fee Villa want. If £20m had come up there would be much less outcry, obviously. I wonder, as a scout or someone in recruitment, how you persuade your boss/club to spend big on such a player - low profile and no PL experience? A big call to make.

Not United quality. At least not yet.
No...first he needs to play a season in the EPL with Villa. After putting in a good season, then Leicester needs to sign him for 30m. We will then let him have 2 great years at Leicester so his value can continue to grow. Then, and only then, when we have to pay 100m for him, will he be United quality...

That’s probably true, though. I mean that’s how it actually works isn’t it?

He was the most chased after player in Scotland when he was at Hibs, both Celtic and Rangers wanted him but he wanted to play in England so went to Villa and arguably was their best player
wow.. how far we have fallen if we are aiming at guys wanted by Hibs, Celtic and Rangers

Aston Villa is the championship club I supported the last two seasons and as a regular watcher, I definitely rate Mcginn highly. Aside from Grealish, Mcginn is their best player and has outshoned Grealish in quite a number of games in fact.

He won the player's POTY as well as the fan's POTY awards in his first season with Villa. Those who are laughing about him clearly doesn't know the player at all. That said, i think this rumour has no substance at all. Just some random made up paper talk; journalists often create.

But in my opinion, I am not sure if he is good enough to play for United just yet. He has the potential though. I hope he pushes on this season, we will have to see if he can replicate his form in the Premier League. He is definitely staying and Villa will not sell him I believe.

Him and Longstaff are both fantastic young midfielders with the drive, ambition and quality to develop into very good Premier League midfielders over the next few years; if they played for Villarreal, Grêmio or Porto, had exotic names and were covered in tattoos, the sceptics would be open to investing in them.

We have had excellent talents/prospects over the recent years, remember Adnan Januzi?
The problem is we dont seem to improve any players, our players look like they stall or recede over time.
If we insist on buying these prospects for the future, what are the realistic chances of improving them at old Trafford without loaning them out?
