€70-90 million is a large amount for a “stop gap”, especially if we somehow make it back to the CL next season and buy Sancho for 100+
we need more options. there's no stopping us keeping Pepe and then still signing Sancho next year, Sancho is probably best on the left anyway.

We will play 2 rb's imo. Wan will be the defensive and dalot the offensive one, with the option to swap on an overlap. James will play against the sheffields and norwich's, probably in a free flowing position with martial and 'rashy'. Probably 4-1-4-1 against the citys and pool's. 4-3-3/4-2-1-3 the rest.

Gotta be a stopgap signing available here, whether it's a loan from a big club with someone unhappy there or a one year Robben deal. Nobody currently has a real chance of playing RW and giving us 10+ goals and 10+assists from that position.

We're drawing dead, to use the poker term.

Ducker in the Telegraph says we still want a right winger. Hope he's right.

Also it's been reported in Holland that Ziyech has an agreement with Ajax that he can leave for just £27m. That's quite a bargain. I expect he will have a pile of offers to sort through once he is done with the AFCON this summer.

We're not getting in the Champions League if we keep a 4 3 3 formation without a new right winger. We have zero attacking threat from that side and AWB certainly isn't enough.

Really like the look of Lee Kang-in. Only saw bits and pieces of him last season at Valencia where he wasn't particularly impressive — but he was exceptional at the U-20 World Cup (where he won the Golden Ball), and bears an uncanny resemblance to Bernardo Silva from an aesthetic/functional/playmaking standpoint. Still quite raw and tends to dwell on the ball, not a pure winger (more of a fluid press-resistant attacker who can operate through the middle or the inside channels) and don't think he's ready to make an instant impact...but should definitely be on United's radar because of his overall potential, despite the steep €80 million release clause.

I was under the impression James would be the young, versatile attacking option who can play anywhere for this season, and not necessarily the set right winger.
That's what he should be. We've not been seriously linked with anyone for the right wing position since the Sancho rumours died down though, if it's not James it's probably going to be another season of makeshift options like Lingard and Mata.

We've been recently linked with David Brooks, a right midfielder from Bournemouth, does anyone know anything about him?

If Ziyech moves for 30M it would seem insane for us not to sign him, right? He gives the ball away a lot but he plays hard, has a ton of skill, very productive, now proven in the CL and he would start for us as a RW or as a 10 in a diamond.

Oh great...more inspiring links. Between him and Longstaff, we might as well aim for top 10, nevermind top 4.

I'm starting to get worried now as I've seen no concrete links of any RW. Are we seriously about to enter another season with Lingard in that position again? I'm not sure if Ole is planning on playing James there but he's not the type of player to make a drastic difference quickly he needs time to develop. We need someone like Sancho or Pepe on the right, someone who can produce.

There are plenty of talented RWs available for between 30-45m but we don't appear to be remotely interested in any of them, and I would be stunned if we do actually sign a RW now.

As I see it, the moment we renewed Mata on £140k per week, buried any idea of a new signing on the right.

Next season will be Lingard, Mata & James possibly Chong all trying their luck.

I have no earthly idea why we didn't sell Lingard to some midtable prem team for 20M, let Mata go back to Spain with our appreciation, and use their combined wages and that fee on someone like Ziyech who has his flaws but works very hard and is way more productive than those guys. Versatile enough to be our 10 when we play a diamond too.

I don't disagree with you, but there seems to be a weird sort of "loyalty" thing going on at OT where we are loathe to get rid of anyone.
Jones, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian etc ....look at how we held onto Fellaini...It's all a bit strange.

If Maguire gets accepted, that's £150m we've spent this summer. Usually that's our yearly max so be very surprised if we bid for any significant attacking options.

Looks like it'll be Martial - Rashford - Lingard, unless we sell one of Pogba or Lukaku.

Maybe we're praying Alexis pulls his finger out? And maybe having AWB will help?

Who knows.

I think his tactics will be interesting this year as if Maguire/Bruno Fernandes/Longstaff come in, that seems to be it for this summer (would be amazed if we bought anyone else).

James has not played on the right but seems strange we would buy ANOTHER left winger when we are already completely stacked in that position.

He quite liked the diamond last year, splitting the forwards so whether he would player one of Bruno/Pogba as a 10 with the other playing on the left of the diamond, with McTom on the right and Longstaff as the DMC. Would save the need for a RW this summer anyway.

Going to be interesting to see who we do get rid off before the end of August and how the squad shapes as we have Chong who can obviously play from the right.

I can see Sancho being our main target next year.

I did think Lozano would be a good signing, plays on the right but is just as good/comfortable playing as a CF as well, save us the money on a Lukaku replacement and would give Greenwood more game time.

How about Malcom? While everyone (myself included) wants Sancho, it seems this is not happening this year. But we can't keep ignoring our RW and play without a proper right winger. It's been years since we had one. Greizmann going to Barcelona may get things easier for us. He's fairly young (22), left footed and didn't play too much at Barca last year as they had too much attackers in their squad. They paid € 40m for him last summer so it wouldn't be so expensive either. I think Malcom'd be the most sensible RW target for us this year.

This, this and this. Stop gap for Sancho next season. A true winner in the ranks as well.

Sadly, it seems that we are going to continue with Lingard and Mata in that position. I understand that it would be difficult to sign Sancho, but there are other right wingers we could get. It seems that it's not a priority for us this summer.

Unless James will be utilised there I cant see us bringing in a new RW for this season.
I think United are putting all their eggs into the Sancho basket next summer.

I expect to see a lot of Dan James on the right to be honest. Whilst most of his starts for Swansea were on the left he did play several games on the right and more significantly it was mentioned that Ole had specifically asked Giggs if James could play on the right and Giggs gave a glowing report.

James has played there at least 50% of the games for Swansea. I expect us to play him there, unless he’s a major flop.

Wingers like Sancho, Chiesa, Dembele, Pepe, Sane (unrealistic) would massively improve our attack. But they would cost a lot of money... So maybe Malcom or Costa could be a bit cheaper. I would take Ziyech/Lozano if we don't want to spend a lot this summer.

Ji-Sung Park with better ball skills and vision but without the tackling. Just needs a couple of years for his body to fully mature.

Considering how much Glazer's value shirt sales I'm surprised there's not been any more South Koreans signed since Park. I personally love the prospect of signing them. Their work ethic is second to none. Also first guy I've seen to mention Kangin, good shout.

My dream RW signing would definitely be Sancho. The perfect playmaking type of an attacker that we seriously lack, he would be a blessing for the whole team.

Any chance to snap up Dembele from Barca while the circus around Neymar and Griezman is still in full swing?
Maybe Barca might be judged to pay the additional 80 Mio EUR for Griezman and PSG are more interested in Coutinho based on some reports so Barca might need to do an extra sale.

Guess the positive in not signing a proven attacker is that Greenwood and Gomes should be trusted and should develop a lot, and they're by far our most promising youngsters. One of them could surprise and have a Rashford type rise in becoming a starter by the end of the season as well (likely Greenwood from the right of a 3 as he suits the others). Its taking a gamble of course, but it's an exciting one at least and still more exciting then just thinking mata/lingard are enough

It was interesting that we didn't see either of the dreaded Mata/Lingard right wing options today. Chong, James, Greenwood and Gomes all given minutes in that position and only Greenwood did anything positive when playing there.

That's great in theory but Ole was reluctant to really throw any of the youngsters into the deep end for a prolonged period last season and the chances of Lingard and Mata making more appearances out on the right as oppossed to Greenwood and Gomes are still pretty high you'd have to say.

Personally I'd love us to sign a right winger and have Greenwood be the understudy. Doesn't look like we're going to be signing a RW though despite the fact it's been a clear weak spot for years now...:annoyed:
