Recommend me a game. The only one I've played is BOTW.
If you like oldschool Final Fantasy/Chrono Trigger style RPG's then I'd recommend 'I Am Setsuna' and 'Lost Sphear' if you can find them discounted. The former is eShop only, but you can find Lost Sphear online for not much over £20. They're not massively lengthy compared with other games in the genre, but there's enough there if you want to do the bosses and unlock all the chests etc.

Tales of Vesperia is definitely a good shout as you'll likely find it well under £40.

I've heard good things about Octopath Traveller but it's very much dependent on whether you like the art style. Ys VIII is another that's apparently really good, but I haven't played it. I was debating getting it but I had other games to play at the time.

If you haven't played it on PlayStation already, Ni No Kuni is releasing in September and I'd definitely recommend it.

Ys VIII is fantastic but I got it on PS4 as it was far cheaper

Octopath is really good if you like old school JRPG's.

Xenoblade 2 I genuinely thought was one of the worst games ever for a good 20 hours but then it just suddenly got great when everything clicked.

Wait what? Really? The original ps3 version? Great game, great rpg, and it wasnt a massive studio back in the day.

Dragon Quest 11 is out later for switch later this year, and Persona 5

Persona 5 is not announced for the switch, it was all rumours and Atlus announced Persona 5 Royal for PS4 instead.

Ni Nu Kuni the Wrath of the White Witch was my first JRPG ever so it has a very special place in my heart, can't wait to play it again.

PS. Shin Megami Tensei is the Atlus Nintendo game but they haven't said anything new about that yet.

Yeah, unfortunately I think the Switch version is just a straight port of the PS3 version, same specs. Not exactly a bad thing of course, but...

... It's getting an actual remaster for PS4 as well.

Tbf it's the portability of the Switch that would make you buy 3rd party games on it, if you care more about graphics you should definitely get it on PS4, although somehow it seems games are selling better on the Switch.

I like RPG's mainly. Just been looking at Tales of Vesperia, looks like fun so might pick up that.
I'll rank the rpgs (+1) on the switch that I've played:
0. Hollow Knight - More of a metroidvania, but it's seriously great. And there will be another Hollow Knight game soon, so good time to get into it.

1. Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana - By far the best rpg on the system.
2. Xenoblade 2 - Remember to turn off battle-talk or you'll go crazy, good if you enjoy the battle-system.
3. Octopath Traveler - Enjoyable old-school turn-based and sprite jrpg. Fun functions, meh stories.
4. Final Fantasy 12 - Lets you change jobs, which isn't available in other FF12-versions.
5. Lost Sphear - Overrated alongside I am Setsuna in my opinion. Just wannabe Chrono Trigger without doing it great.
6. Let's go Eevee
7. South Park Fractured but whole
8. Tales of Vesperia

That should be the ones I can remember.

Hollow Knight is a Metroidvania, I don't think there's many traditional RPG elements in it.

Well it's one of my top 5 Switch game so I kind of agree with your ranking I guess.

I couldn't get over the amount of content this game has for the 15$ I paid for it, insane.
Great game, great developers. I'm not a huge fan of the metroidvania genre apart from a few castlevanias, hollow knight & the newest bloodstained game, but Hollow Knight had me hooked like crazy. Ended up buying it 3 times (switch, gog & steam) just to support the developers.

Personally I prefered the dualshock 4 controller on pc over the switch controllers, but that's surely down to just tastes and what you are used to.

I played it fully handheld, it just felt like a handheld type of game.

I'm really enjoying Bloodstained despite the difficulty being all over the place. Playing it on PC though as I've heard the Switch version has a lot of issues. If they fix it in a patch I'll be all over it.

They have already committed a lot of resources to improving the Switch version through patches. They kind of made the wrong decision in the first place given that the genre of game does very well on the Switch. Initially, they definitely put a lack of resources into developing the Switch version compared with other platforms, but upon release it actually sold more on Switch than the PS4/Xbox One versions combined. I'd imagine this has changed their approach and they'll be working very hard to making sure the Switch version is at least comparable to the others (and any future games will probably get the bulk of the team working on them for the Switch version).

If anyone is making Mario Maker levels, and making them on the harder side of platforming, dont forget to add checkpoints in, or dont use clear conditions to add artificial difficulty. I played a level last night called 'Mario buys a toilet', (I will get the level code later for anyone who wants to try it).

Clear condition is collect all 70 coins. First section involved spin jumping across the screen, on top of a sideways thwomp that has a parachute halfway across the screen so the speed changes, while avoiding spineys shooting spikes, podoboos coming from the lava, piranha plants with wings and collecting a 10 coin.

You get past that section, and get a yoshi that instantly you lose, as you have to do a yoshi jump dismount to reach a platform above. Land that and you are greeted with 4 stacked hammer bros, armed with just a shellmet on the ground to kick at them and then stop when it bounces back towards you (miss this bounce and the shellmet flies off screen and you have to restart the level).

Beat the hammer bros and you are rewarded with a mushroom, and get to keep the shellmet as well... which you need for the next section.

You run under some thwomps, then have to spin jump back across the top of them, avoiding saws and more spiney spikes flying towards you, to collect a 10 coin, then spin jump back across the thwomps, again avoiding the saws, to the last thwomp which moves sideways. Travel along that thwomp, and do a big spin jump at the end to get to the next section.

At this point you are given another shellmet. You run and jump across a saw, and bounce a thwomp off of your head. Then run and jump across another 2 saws onto a spring that is on a spike floor, bounce to another spring and then to solid ground.

Kick the shellmet you are holding up to an on off switch, which reveals the blocks needed to get to the next section. 2 conveyers with saws that are 2 forced hits. So if you didnt do that whole first part with no damage at all you cant get through (which I havent).

Its a great level, really hard but really fun, and the enemies are consistent as well for the first part, so you can build a rhythm. But for the love of god it needs a checkpoint.

Unfortunately... any level that has a clear condition cannot have a checkpoint as a rule, as there will be coins/whatever before that checkpoint that you couldnt get.

Did he buy the toilet at the end?

I think I created a genuinely fun level with blink blocks.

Feeling very stupid I didn't know you could turn off the battle talk in Xenoblade. I put over 100 hours into that game listening to that nonsense the whole time.
