Right footed. 19 years old (20 in November). Joined from Forli in Italy in summer 2016. Has a couple of starts for Italy U20s and a few sub appearances, though not in current World Cup squad.

He started 6 games for the U23s while still eligible for the U18s in 17/18. During that spell our defensive record was far better than at others times that season, conceding just 4 goals while he was on the pitch and another two in the mins he was sent off for. Barely featured for U18s.

In 18/19 he had to wait until Regan Poole and Ro-Shaun Williams had departed before he got another chance in the U23s in the League. Started the last 7 games of the season (team conceded 8 goals while he was on the pitch and another 3 in the last 20 mins of final match after he was substituted). Made 3 starts in the PL2 U23 International Cup. Also got six starts for U19s.

Lacks the physicality/height/athleticism to be a serious contender for United's first team in his early 20s, more of a composed CB, though not currently at Blind or Lindelof level. Possible he might be a good player in his mid to late 20s, once he has a lot of experience. A taller version of Regan Poole, a bit shorter than Paddy McNair but fairly similar strengths and weaknesses.

TMW in Italy believe he has a 2 year offer from United and that there is one Serie A team and several Serie B teams interested in signing him for a minimal development fee this summer.

Personally think he's one to watch for, think he'll go right to the top.

This is based on his name, and name alone. Never heard of the lad before 2 minutes ago.

Sent off or subbed off?

He was sent off after 52 mins against West Ham with the score 0-1 during the season (17/18) we got relegated. It finished 0-3.
You can hardly call that an achievement. "We conceded more without him on the pitch" is a very optimistic take on "we went down to 10 men and that sealed it".

I'm confused.

I think you have misunderstood what I was attempting to say. I mentioned the 2 goals conceded after he was sent off as they seemed to be goals he was in part responsible for, yet wasn't technically on the pitch at the time.

The team conceded 40 goals in 22 games that season. Ercolani started 6 matches, during which we conceded 6 goals (including the two while he was sent off). In the matches he didn't play in, we conceded 34 goals in 16 games. So as I said, our defensive record with Ercolani in the team, was far better than at other times that season.

Ah, OK, I read it as the rest: without him on the pitch we conceded more.

Does anyone know if he has decided to stay or not? United offered him a contract but no idea if he has accepted it or not. The best youth CB right now at the club imo. Wouldn't be a disaster to lose him though but badly underappreciated.

Lee O'Connor is about 10x better than him and it isn't even close.

I've preferred what I've seen from Mengi in the 18s. I don't think Ercolani's all that, just your bog-standard youth center back.

I counted O'Connor as a FB and the hype around O'Connor is excessive.

Ercolani isn't all that but I guess that says a lot about the CBs today. Mengi might become better but clearly isn't right now.

I think Ercolani is much better than many on here give him credit. I hope he signs the contract and we can sort out a loan deal for him cause he needs to play 1st team football.

Mengi and Bejger are pretty talented too while O'Connor still needs to find his best position.

As far as I know he's staying. He's not back in training yet because of an injury.
