I am actually pleased with this one. All these announcement however make me wonder if we aren't signing any other players.

Apparently he wanted to stay and sign a new contract or be sold perm. No loans.

I take it this means he'll be a part of the squad this season which makes me happy,

I like him, although I remember people were equally excited about Pereira until we got to see him play a handful of games, now he's not good enough, deadwood etc.. Hope Axel doesn't go this route.

I am excited to see what he can do this year if he starts every week at Villa

Happy with this. I want him to stay instead of going out on loan. But with us looking to sign Maguire, we'll have 7 centre backs in the team. We need to get rid of a few this summer.

You what now? How would that be related in any way?
Not sure, but they have an awful habit of renewing contracts to cover up other stuff. In fact we need more signings, so hopefully it is just me worrying over nothing. Maybe last summer got to me.

Wow, so if we sign Maguire that's a back 4 of Wan Bissaka-Maguire-Lindelof-Shaw with Bailly and Tuanzebe as potential back up cb's. That's not that bad in all honesty.

Doubt we will get a CB in this summer. But if Maguire comes in, i think Maguire, Lindelöf, Smalling and Tuanzebe will be the 4. Jones will probably be injured most of the time, with Bailly and Rojo not getting much a look in. I would cash in on both of them.

Really pleased with him signing a new deal, hopefully it means he staying at the club rather than going on loan again.

Good one. Rather see him play than Jones or Rojo or even Smalling.

Agreed.

Smalling has a part to play too IMO.

Jones, Rojo and Darmian can/should leave.

This is a thing i can stand behind, regardless of how he pans out at the end, he might not be better than what we have but certainly he aint worse and i am fine with that for few reasons.

Also regarding length of contract, maybe he didnt want to sign for longer, this way he will give us enough years to see how much real trust we have in him, how much chances is there, if in 2 years he sees it as wasted in his development, easier to move on i guess.

If we dont sign a CB he should be thrown in to the starting XI next season. If we do sign a CB send him back to Villa on loan

This is how I see it too, Bailly is the only one apart from Smalling/Lindelof with any real value and, unfortunately, is a train wreck. Should cash in there. If we can get anything for Rojo I'd be delighted, hope he moves on. Jones I just can't see moving.

I don't particularly rate Maguire but he'd be better than nowt. Either way this looks good to me next season:

Lindelof / Smalling / Tuanzebe / Jones / New CB.

Hard to choose the likely starters as their all about the same level for me, with different pros & cons. If the new guy isn't dominant in the air it has to be Smalling next to him. If he is I'd like to see Lindelof / Tuanzebe as their partner.

Agreed on the length, think he's made a smart move. Certainly backs the 'Stay at the club or permanent transfer' rumour, he seems to have his head screwed on.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Very pleased. I'd rather see him in the matchday squad than the Chuckle Brothers but wouldn't begrudge letting him and Deano get a taste of PL football back at Villa and Sheffield United respectively. Let's see what Axe can do pre-season!

Great news. He has top class attitude from the quotes I've read and lots of potential.

Here's to him getting in ahead of the chuckle brothers.

Good news.

I wonder why he got a 3 year (+1) contract and Pereira got 4 years (+1)?
He loses two years for not being born in England, but gains one back because he's played for the England U21's.

Probably his agent wants a lesser contract so that (assuming he progresses) he'll be in stronger position to negotiate in a few years time.

Great news. I reckon he could be a very good player for us. Hope he gets a chance this season.
