Lampard unknown quantity, we'll see as managing Chelsea totally different to Derby. Gives us hope at least he could be like Zidane, much more so than Gracia / Rafa who I think were the other options. The former showing a total lack of any ambition and the latter would have got endless stick and atmosphere would be pretty toxic, even though probably the most logical option to grind results out without Hazard from tactical perspective.

Looks like our first pre season game is on Wednesday, very interested to see how we're going to play. Can't see Lampard sticking with Sarri system, surely will be 4 2 3 1 or similar and he's going to have to get enough creativity and goals in the side with Hazard gone.

Just watch Chelsea outclass us on the opening game of the season, with Lampard needing little to no time to get his points across to his squad. We will meanwhile hear talk of five year transition plans.

Hope is all they got, like Utd have under ole, hoping there right guy, the difference is Chelsea transfer ban is a hindrance .

Lampard is going to get great results, poor results and some indifferent ones, he's not the next big thing.
Wish him well it's not going to happen, they struggled last season with Hazard dragging them through most games hes gone?

Liuz can be a nightmare or a magician? Kante looks off it, no real striker, Abrahams who was on loan at Villa, Swansea before that, is he the answer ? I don't think so. Just expect a up and down season. Hazard will be a huge huge hole to fill. Good luck though

Sol Campbell was right. One year at Derby and he gets this job? I don't to see anyone saying there isn't a bias towards white managers in this country
He wouldn't have got the job if he didn't have any ties with Chelsea. I don't think this is a colour of his skin issue but they obviously know Frank better than any other club so I think saying he got it because he's white is just race baiting and an easy conclusion to come to if you are part of the PC brigade

So if he wins the league and Champions League

Not much coming through the youth system? Christensen, RLC, Hudson-Odoi, Ampadu and maybe Abraham will be part of the first team squad and there a load waiting in the wings if Lampard needs them. It'll be more youth players than Chelsea have had for literally decades.
Excacty not much, are they good enough? Ampadu? No chance, the one they got is maybe Odoi, he's very good, the rest are not, not for what's needed , to challenge. As for winning league or champions league wake up man. It's the romantic option for Chelsea.

Don't forget most fans turned on him when he went to City,? What they going to do if or when results start slipping, they are going to happen. Good luck

OK, I see that you are trolling now, fair enough, you got me. Good to know for the future.

He got a standing ovation from the Chelsea fans after he scored against us!

Honestly dont know what to expect but some of the things people are saying in the media and other social media have me perplexed. Any notion of Chelsea finishing outside of the top 6 is a dream, Wolves and Leicester were good last season but the consistency needed in grounding out wins week after week is a huge task for those sides.

They still have a very starting XI. And while their forwards dont look mighty, Giroud won the world cup last summer and finished this season top goal scorer in the EL so hes half decent at the very least with a young and hungry back up in Abraham as second fiddle.

What's huge for Lampard is that Chelsea's board have put all the pieces in place for him this pre season. Hes gonna need it with a difficult set of opening fixtures.

Ampadu, Odoi, Mount and James all have the potential to become top players at Chelsea level, infact I'd argue Reece James already is.

Huh? Ampedu is amazing, one of the most promising young defenders around. Also a great fit at DM.

Let's hope your right, he can then produce more for Wales. So far been disappointing, got some improving to do with age I suppose, remains to be seen.

Do we have any cause for optimism?
Do Chelsea supporters? Because according to you, Lampard is going to impart his wisdom in the space of six weeks and their striker-less, depleted squad without the league’s best player is going to smash us on the first day.

Chelsea have consistently thrived in discord.

Even last season when their manager seemed to be wearing a dead man's shoes after about two months they ended up with a trophy and comfortably in the top four.

They’ve finished outside of the top four on a semi-regular basis for more than a couple of years. Their best striker is Olivier Giroud. Hazard is gone. Hudson-Odoi is injured. Lampard is even more of an unknown quantity than Solskjaer.

I’m being rational. You’re not.

They have a considerably better squad than we do, while Lampard and Ole are equally out of their depth.

They finished what 5-6 points ahead of Man. United. Certainly in the 1-1 in late April there was very little between the two that day although better point for Chelsea in the long run.

In premier league there is much bigger gulf between 2nd-3rd than there is between 3rd-6th.

I don’t think they do at all. I would take ours.

There’s no suggestion as of yet that either manager is out of his depth. Just conjecture based upon pre-determined convictions.

Disagree. With Hazard gone, yours is better or at least more talented. Kanté can't do it all on his own, age is catching up with Willian and their best bets in the offense are Pulisic and Hudson-Odoi who both have yet to ultimately prove themselves.

Your squad actually isn't bad, I think if you'd get a decent playing midfielder your offense would be very good.

Could be an inspired decision... Lampard is a clever guy, always maximises what he has available. Look at his career, never the most naturally talented, but was clever in defining what he was ever so good at.

Not sure about this, Comrad Abramovich spends little time wasted on managers, even those who are good and win things (Ancelotti, Sarri...) .. Frank is a good guy to clear out the nonsense at the club. I always feel he feels he has something to prove.. If he does well, it's him or Gerrard for the next England job when Southgate calls it in.

We have (had) probably the best playing midfielder in world football, and he scored more than any of our forwards. What does that tell you about our forwards?

In all honesty, I think Pogba is vastly overrated. Watching him play is so frustrating. His decision making is dreadful. Takes far too much time on the ball and let's opponents get near him. Plays far too direct and always impatiently wants to play the killer pass. Takes too many shots and so forth. If he'd actually focus on what a CM is actually supposed to do he could be very good but I doubt that'll ever be the case. If I were you I'd sell him for as much as possible and bring in two midfielders who are good in build up and ball retention, pressing resistant and like to let the ball circulate instead of clinching to it. Pogba is the exact opposite, spectacular but inefficient. I'd try signing someone like Ceballos, Fabian, Jorginho, Rabiot etc. Let the offense do it's job and make the midfielder's do theirs.

We started that 1-1 game reasonably well and then they were the better side and really ought to have won.

Fact is, with a dead man walking manager, they still comfortably got in the CL and won a trophy – their squad is considerably better than ours.

He's probably the most outstanding young defender/defensive midfielder in the country if not Europe. The guy has got vision and can pick out a pass, make good interceptions and can tackle. He's still only 18 years old yet has made a mark at both Chelsea and on the International scene. I'm not sure what else an 18 year old can do? He has a terrific confidence about him and if I had to compare him to any player I have seen, and I'll show my age here, it would be Bobby Moore. Bobby Moore made what is regarded as the best tackle of all time in the 1970 World Cup by taking the ball off somebodies toe while facing them head on. What the linked video and see if you can spot Ampadu doing the same thing. The guy is absolutely outstanding and if he keeps going he could be the very best.

De Ligt is a year older than Ampadu and has been given regular football at Ajax. Ampadu suffered an injury last year and has missed out on his progression so he may be a year or two behind De Ligt. There are no guarantees with any young players and we shall see who is better over the coming years. I still believe Ampadu is the best defensive prospect coming through in the PL at the moment and we shall see how he progresses at international level in the next couple of years.

Dont name check your player as the most outstanding defender in Europe if you're going to now make up a load of excuses as to why he isn't ;)

Why not? Anyway I didn't name check my player. I name checked De Ligt. Seems he is going to Juventus at a fee of £45m.

I'm very happy for Chelsea to have Ampadu in the squad and would welcome him coming into the team over Luiz at some point. I rarely talk up the prospects of young players at Chelsea but he's gone under the radar with RLC and Hudson Odoi getting the headlines.

Yes I accept I hadn't considered De Ligt and he wasn't even on my radar. I don't know enough about De Ligt or European youth and that is why I said probably. As it turns out De Ligt has a reputation and has done well in a young side at Ajax. I knew they had a some good young players but didn't connect he was one of them. I'll tell you what. I'll go away and look at his show reel and compare it Ampadu's.

People may underestimate Chelsea this season because of the transfer ban and hazard leaving. But they still have a strong squad on paper, with some players discarded by Sarri surely keen to prove people wrong. The key question is how quickly Lampard and co can get them playing together as a team in a different way without hazard as the outlet

I watched some highlights and fully realise this doesn't give the true picture of the player but he did remind me a young John Terry. He is strong and reads the game well. He too is confident in the tackle and shows a maturity beyond his years. I question if he would look so good against quality opposition every week but yes he would probably get into any PL team. Although he does have other skills it does seem he is an out and out centre half and a very good stopper. Ampadu hasn't had the first team opportunities that De Ligt has and has probably suffered in his development because of the injury as well. Ampadu's passing abilities appear much better and I think given a chance this year he can be equally as good as De Ligt in a year or two.

It's going to be a bold move bringing in Ampadu into the first team straight away. Chelsea already have Andreas Christensen at 23 years old coming into the back two and to have both just isn't a good idea. I think Luis will eventually be phased out but his experience is still required and Lampard will probably stick with him for the moment. Rudiger may be injured for the beginning of the season but for me he is currently the best centre half at the club. I would love to see a Rudiger /Ampadu partnership eventually at the back but for this season we need some experience. Lampard has some big decisions to make because Everton are wanting to but buy Kurt Zouma. Interesting options.

I am serious.
I'm not a big fan of European football and just don't get the time to watch. I also refuse to pay for BT sports. I may have to change that this season just to watch Chelsea.

It was a bold call to say Ampadu was probably the best young player in the PL if not Europe but to a certain extent I'll stick to that for the moment if only because I said probably.

Ampadu does have a European winners medal after all.

I have a life outside of watching football on the TV. Any chance to see my team on the TV is taken but I will watch out for De Ligt from here on.

Ampadu, I've seen him play mostly for Wales, ok not the same level of players at Chelsea, but I've not seen anything special bout him. He's ok for Wales as the pool of players to pick from is lower than most.
