All too simple for Woody he just seems to make complications where there are none mate. If we get those signings we would be in a lot better position than where we are but obviously Woody and his vast knowledge of football obviously knows better than anybody who can see the gaping hooles in our squad. If we get £225 for Pogba and Lukaku, I can see at least £150m going back in the Glazers pockets which is saddening.
You keep talking about the owners pocketing so and so much money. Why? Do you have any source to this?

Yeah I mean in theory, we should have had what, £250M was being talked about this summer, considering we spent sod all last summer bar Fred/Dalot and nothing in Jan, have recouped for Fellani Sch & Memphis.

Have spent £65m this summer so should still have £185M plus Lukaku and Pogba money, guarantee we will have hardly any of that to replace them.

To be honest if we get a few in and give a few of the kids a breakthrough year I will be happy enough, be nice to see players who give a shit for once rather than these overpaid prime donas who just don't give a feck.

I was happy when initially heard that we had £250m to spend. £185m plus the Lukaku and Pogba fees would be nice. Last year there was supposedly £100 available for the right centreback eg Varane. Where did this money go, my guess is back in the Glazers pockets. If it was available then it should be available now to add to the kitty. I think Woody is being tight with the purse strings as he is banking on our youngsters having a breakthrough like you said, I am happy for this but I think we need a few players in also to give them time to bed in. One good thing is if the youngsters make it it would take our wage bill down a bit. Fecking £26m if correct in wages payed to Sanchez for 1 league goal. Pathetic.

I don't have a source. It is just how I feel. I may be wrong but we shall see when we get the money from the Pogba and Lukaku transfers.
I just think this forum is crazy enough atm without people osting random stuff like that.

This is an interesting article (Cannot post URL, so will post it as text only "https://www.economist.com/game-theory/2019/05/12/how-manchester-city-came-to-rule-english-football")
Apologies if this has already been posted.

I am not posting this have a pop at Utd, but to say it seems that Ole/etc may have taken this approach on board with the signings made and potential incomings

What you think?
Interesting article. I agree that European clubs try to fleece premiership clubs due to the amount of cash our teams have had. I also agree that recently we have not spent our money as wisely as we could regarding the vast sums we have have forked in wages it has gone against us. I thought it was stupid at the time paying Sanchez all those wages, as it it will make any future signings we make who think the they have similar ability to Sanchez to want to get at least the same amount in wages.

I think the approach the club is seeming to take now and buying players before they they become stars is a good one is t will potentially save us many millions in the future.

Years ago as we had so much clout compared to the rest of the League we could go out and buy the best players from a rival who had had a great season but we can longer do that anymore due to to the other teams in the league getting richer and not having to sell if they don't want to to stay financially secure.

They have the best 3 managers in the league who makes their team better than sum of it's parts.

Perhaps - but would Pep or Klopp or Poch have done as well as they have with Cardiff (For example), its not so simple as just the manager. Recruitment is a key part too.

That's just extreme example. It's like asking whether Moyes would win CL with this Liverpool team.

Recruitment is important but good manager makes them better with their system.

Of course, I was being deliberately extreme in that example, so both parts are key I would say, recruitment based on financially prudent choices (i.e; those that will improve the team and ideally have considerable resale valiue, even when not quite meeting high expectations, perfect example is probably AWB, his resale value would be good inherently as he would now be sold from Utd - not that he would require selling, again, an example) and a good manager to get the best from a carefully rebuilt squad.

Of course both are important, it would be foolish to ask Pep to work with Cardiff level players and win the league.

Players like Milner, Henderson, Robertson, Salah, Firmino, Mane all played at much higher level now than before Klopp signed or at previous clubs. Recruitment is important but manager getting best out of them, getting more than sum of it's parts is the more important.

Just take Spurs as example and how many players stepped up few levels once Poch took over.

SAF won league with players like Cleverley, Welbeck playing and close to retirement Rio and Vidic as CBs. Next season same team with different manager finished 7th in the league.

Would they have done better with our squad than Jose/Ole? Probably yes IMO.

I would have like either Pep or Klopp, but we didnt get them so tough sh!te. But we have Ole and I think given the right environment to do do well in, he could thrive. We should get behind him all the way and see where it gets us mate.

I agree. We don’t have much choice anyway.

I think Ole is building something and if he doesn’t work out, the next manager will have a good squad to work with.

I agree with you part in bold. At least it shows we are making progress and seem to have a plan in place, even if it is going to take a bit of time. Which is great after these past 6 years mate.

Think we should be in for a LB this summer as well, especially with Tierney being available for £25m.

Yeah there are other pressing areas, but £25m isn't a lot, especially for a young British talent. We're a Shaw injury away from Young/Rojo/Dalot being played out of position.

Young went to the world cup as left back. And dalot can fill in there too.
Any funds have to be prioritised into a centre mid or right attack as the current starting option is weak there. We have too much to do to start buying left back cover

Seems unnecessary to me.
Most clubs don’t have ideal backup options for every position on the pitch.

I'm talking as well as a CM (or two). I personally think we're going to go for Sancho next year so we won't for for a RW this year.

Rojo should be sold, Dalot back up RB. Yeah okay Young as a back up LB, and that is what I think will happen, but when you've got a high quality LB available for a very reasonable price, I think we should take advantage.

Top clubs do? And if one's available at a very reasonable price, we should be interested.

I actually think Tierney would go on to prove to be better than Shaw anyway.

Bang on.

Ole is the sacrificial lamb in this tale. Tasked with blooding youngsters & casting out the deadwood that won’t leave by offering them no playing time to force their hand.

I can see Poch in-charge in a few years.

Nah, even Barcelona don’t have a backup for Alba, City don’t have a backup for Aguero, Jesus is nowhere near as good, Madrid have their issues too.
25m isn’t pennies and Is Tierney even that good? To me he seems massively overrated in here as it is.

I would have liked to signed Tierney this summer but it's not going to happen. Maybe if Arsenal keep giving Celtic derisory offers, Celtic will keep him another season and we maybe hopefully be able to sign him next summer.

Why are people moaning about the transfer situation it's not like it's a new situation, the only way to change anything is to stop giving the Club your money. Season tickets sold out in record time...why would they splash out when they've already got your cash regardless. At present fans are just surviving on Hope rather than action, there's a famous quote by Johnny Rotten that goes 'ever get the feeling you've been had'.

If we weren't on the verge of a world record fee for a centre back your post might carry more sway.

All Ole is waiting for is for Zaha to switch his allegiance back to England and it’s a done deal

Man if some of these links come to fruition we could be looking at a solid ball-playing side:

Rash | ------------------------------ | Pepe
------------- Pogba | Bruno --------------
---------------- Fred | SMS ----------------
Shaw | Maguire | Lindelof | AWB

Let's say we are lucky enough to get Dybala for Lukaku and there is not any money involved...

Then we could start with a front four of Martial (ST), Rashford and Dybala as inside forwards on both sides and Pogba as a CAM.

The leading creators in this front four and team would be Pogba on the left side and Dybala on the right. With Rashford and Martial taking positions central(between CB and fullback) to open up space for the fullbacks out wide. If we were able to get two consistent and balancing central midfielder behind these four talented attacking players, then we could be in for a fascinating season. Maguire deal is more or less done (unfortunately), but we could do with our current CB options if this meant that we used the Maguire money to buy two decent central midfielders that would protect our CBs.

Base formation:

Against a deep sitting defence or when in possession for a time:

I believe signing Maguire is inevitable, will probably happen closer to deadline day.

Signing another striker looks highly probable as well, can't see Lukaku staying at all.

Unfortunately, though, I can't see us getting another midfielder unless Pogba leaves, which you just know would bite us on the arse when we get a reminder of Matic, Fred and Pereira's obvious weaknesses.

Yeah. We need one or two new midfielder more than we need Maguire.

Feet up at home.
It's Muppet prediction time in absence of any actual news so far today.

Lukaku is going to Juve - either helps finance Bruno OR Dybala.

IF Pogba goes to Madrid then the other player from above comes in and Bale comes the other way.

Maguire will be bought from Leicester.

That would do me nicely.
