Both have managed clubs for similar amount of time. Ole have been manager for a decade now. People seem to forget that.
Not at their current respective clubs and besides United is much bigger than Tottenham, for a newly arrived manager, there is no way he'll pick a fight with the board this soon. It's dumb to expect anything other than Ole being cooperative and nice to them

And he would do exactly the same if he came here. I honestly have no idea what type of manager do some fans believe exists that would come straight after the start of his first pre-season and lay a ton of shit against his employees and the people he has to work with for presumably long time.

We don't have Sir Alex anymore and probably never will again. Realising that is part of identifying where the main issue lies, i.e. the core structure of the club.
There is none, people who think that have gone mad.

You can criticize your boss especially if you have an important role in the team but definitely not by shit talking about him. Play smart. Say something like "I think X can be improved because of Y..." talk about the objects not the subjects. Talk about improving things for the benefit of the team. Don't attack the person, hint at improvements.

Of course football manager aren't ordinary office managers. Maybe Ole was just trying to be positive as He knew it didn't really matter if He complained or showed dissatisfaction, the market has been becoming worse and worse + We're not in a place of being able to cherry pick players. If He said He wasn't happy that some of the players are still here it'll only make things harder for him.. seeing how We're struggling to get rid of them.

He played it smart and safe but perhaps could have been better with his choice of words.
Do you want the manager of the club to come out and say the squad he has is inadequate and we won't achieve anything if we don't sign anybody? I'm sorry but in no leadership program are they going to teach a leader to publicly demoralize his subordinates and anger his superiors at the same time. If you are like SAF and Pep who have sufficient credit in the bank maybe you can get away with it, Ole has nowhere near that either with the board, nor with the players. It would be professional suicide to come out and criticize both of them before the season has even started. I'm sure behind closed doors, he has already made it clear to Woodward and co that signings are needed, but there's no benefit of doing it publicly.

Yeah, how is that criticizing? That's how it should be. Manager running the transfers is not sustainable.
It's a perfectly fair answer that will shift the focus out of the manager to Woodward.

It's hardly a fight saying he has no control of transfers or the proceedings on the market. If he says everything is fine and rosy and if he doesn't deliver then surely he has to take the blame alongside the owners right?

How is this different to coming month and a half ago saying half of the players that started the last game against Huddersfield won't be here?

That would still paint a terrible image of him, like a new manager who starts to complain already and who is already finding excuses before the season started, that's what cowards do, that's what Jose did. There are many things at stake that we're unaware of anyway. It makes no sense to stand here in judgment of Ole regarding this press conference.

Something said in the aftermath of a bad result and at the beginning of a new season hold same value? If you take a manager's words after a defeat to heart, when he's specifically gonna come out and say something to placate the fans, then you are really gullible. In the aftermath of a bad result you can make angry comments at players and they won't retaliate because they know they are in the wrong and it placates the fans as well. But to spew negative shite about them at the start of a new season when they are doing their best to impress you, its something no coaching manual is gonna tell you. It makes the fan expect transfer activity that may not happen, we might not be able to shift the players out or our targets might get gazumped by others. I don't understand how grown men can't understand this simple concept. Ole has said standard stuff which 99% people in his position will say, I don't get the uproar.

He doesn't have to be vocal about it. Saying that he has no control is perfectly valid answer which previous managers (like Poch) have done not long ago. Being a yes man however means what he said - that he is perfectly happy with what he has got. If that is the case if the results go south he should be held accountable(along with the owners) for wasting the window right?

My point is double standards. Seems that he's absolved from any fault and everybody but the manager will be responsible for bad run or a wasted season. This is exactly what Woodward and co would want with appointing a yes man and a figure that is popular with the fans. Appease them, shift the focus of another failed window(wait until we get desperate at the end of it), another failed season and he'll throw Ole under the bus as soon as everything goes sour.

How will that reflect on Ole's CV - the only two jobs he would've got in a big leagues resulted in complete failure?

Watched it now. Yes it’s a new season. Let’s be positive, you never know. Comment about the fans unforgivable. Very political line about transfer window. Vacuous.

Absolutely. The rest he has hardly being blamed on.

As I've said even if he doesn't want to be polemic with the board is ok considering our position, but the comment about the fans is shit and should be called out for.

It's hardly an uproar, but if it wasn't for the fans he wouldn't be here in the first place.

There are so many possible scenarios here, it makes no sense to run away with one that automatically portrays him as a "yes man".

Nobody is arguing against the fact that Woodward and co are at fault. My point is there's no use in having a go at what Ole said. He can't make the signings himself, all he can do is make the best with what he's got. If you want Woodward and co gone, I'm with you, but to get all worked up over a generic press conference is something I don't get.

It’s not unforgivable. Have a look around Twitter for example and you see the absolute disgrace that is some of our “fans”. That’s the “fans” he is calling out, and that’s good on him.

You are literally doing what Woodward and co. would want you to, as in going at Ole instead of the real issue. Why do we as fans need Solskjaer to talk smack before we act against the incompetence of the ones at the top of the club?

If the fanbase goes hard at the owners and demand change, it would actually give the manager leverage to demand more behind the curtains and eventually publicly.

I believe what Ole said is totally misunderstood. He isn't talking about the passionate fans, but the ones who cross the line and go abusive, use racist or any other sort of derogatory terms. I hope we all can agree that some stuff are too much when it comes to unwarranted criticism, especially on social media like Twitter, where a lot of the comments are absolutely unacceptable.

We already had the issue with the Lukaku song, the trending racist hashtag against Ashley Young, people constantly cursing the likes of Rashford, Luke Shaw being called a fat bitch just for the shit and giggles, Solskjaer called a piece of shit, a PE teacher, a football failure who somehow fluked a goal in 99 and supposedly is the only thing he ever did. I have a major issue with all of that crap being accepted as normal criticism or just fans being "passionate". This isn't passion, it's projecting people's bigotry and insecurities, using every opportunity to slate everyone at the club. Constructive criticism is always appreciated and needed in any workplace, but we must all realise when it becomes something completely different.

I also know you would agree with me that the main issue lies with the owners and board, so it's much more productive to go at them and leave Ole do his work as a manager, get the squad together and build a proper footballing system that would be successful in the long-term, whilst also providing a structural base to tackle the short and medium term goals.

My point is put Pep or Zidane in his position and they will no doubt share their concerns because they are managers that come with credentials and authority. If they are not happy with something they can fallback on their name and try to change it. Ole doesn't have that luxury which is why he's a very convenient choice for them as he won't pick up a fight and also if we don't spend Woodward could then easily pin it on him at the end saying that's the targets he identified and that is what we got.

As I said on previous page I don't blame him for how he handled Pogba and transfer questions. To me it was ok and especially in Pogba's case it was even very well so props on that. However the fans comment was not something I'd ever agree a newly installed United manager should receive plaudits for.

Clearly the "fans" he talked about are the dickheads on Twitter and not the large percentage of them who have been supporting him therefore I don't see any issue with it. If he implied the majority of fans were like that then I'd completely disagree

I thought that was very obvious when I watched the PC. He even mentioned "He doesn't get too much of it and Karen sends him few notes on it" and then talked about meeting fans. He is obviously talking about the twitter cnuts who abuse every player and are like spam bots.

That's pure speculation based on situations that are very very different and besides both of them have more experience at this level than Ole anyway. Ole isn't similar to Poch nor Zidane so it's pointless to imagine how they'd react. It all smacks to me as finding reasons at all cost to be angry about a meaningless preseason press conference.

Again - to me he handled Pogba questions well. Transfer questions - ok. Ultimately I obviously agree that he can't do much being hugely dependent on the people that hired him just couple of months ago not based on credentials.

What I can't condone is calling out vocal fans like that in a pre-season presser. Completely unjust and completely needless comment which divides the fanbase whatever way you put it.

You do know the cost in terms of merchandise, tickets, travel that those vocal fans pay year after year after being served crap year after year. And they have to be happy and keep their mouth shut?

We're in the middle of the season, hardly the fans are vocal about results and losses, we haven't even kicked a ball so the disgruntled ones are obviously the ones that doesn't like the structure and how the club is run. Put aside the idiots abusing Rashford, Lingard and Pogba - we had those decades ago doing the same to the likes of O'Shea, Fletcher, etc.

As far as I know he said the loudest aren't necessarily the best fans, and then proceeded to say how everyone he's met is positive and so on. If he's calling out the imbeciles on social media who keep whining over everything, then I see nothing wrong in that.

So presumably it was fine for fans to jump on the bandwagon and shout 'Ole's at the wheel' when we'd won five games was it? The quiet ones then were the ones suggesting we should wait before giving him the job.

He didn't elaborate and left it up in the air. Things like that divide the fanbase whatever way you put it mate. It was absolutely needless comment which I don't know why you are defending him for.

If it wasn't for the vocal fans pressure in the middle of the Spring would he be here? If Woodward waited till the end of the season and we all witnessed the bad run would he be here?

Mate, I don't want to sound like a prick but read my response just under the comment you quoted, I'd say the exact same to you.

You are being offended by something that wasn't aimed at you at all. It's about the shitc**ts of "fans" who are very seriously abusing players, staff and the manager. To me it was pretty obvious from watching Ole speak about it. There is absolutely nothing wrong about passionate fans and you've seen Solskjaer go and applaud them after every game, win, draw or lose. He is the last person who would not understand what the fans mean to United.

Are we seriously going to cling on every single word and not provide context to it? Do you think OGS is some sort of a braindead moron that he would offend a large part of the matchgoing fans? It's just nonsensical.

Nice try  I'm not binary like that in my logic, I try to keep on open mind when it comes to assessing any situation, we should have waited a little more before confirming Ole. That ship has sailed though, no need to reminisce.

To answer to all as the answer will be similar. The comment was shite. He should be called out for.

I wouldn't change my perception of Ole the footballer and Ole the person because of Ole the manager.

At the end of it when he didn't specify who are those fans he is calling out that can create a rift in the fanbase, which is absolutely not something we would like at the moment.

If he didn't make that comment about the fan base, personally I won't find any issues with his presser. That's about it and we can move on.

Fair enough. I consider myself a passionate fan as much as possible so don't find a problem with what he said but of course you are entitled to your opinion.

Ole's been at the club for around 11 years as a player, 3 years as the reserves team manager and now a bit more than half a year as the proper manager. There aren't a lot of people that understand United more than him.

I need no education from an idiot to show me that United are going down, it is obvious even to my dog and cat. And to you, who seems to think all is well. Who do you support as a team for it is obviously not United.
Yeah I'm sure Ed hired all the former staff that Ole is very close with, that isn't Ole making those decisions at all. That's all Ed!

I'd say its Ed taking the training sessions and focusing on fitness too.

Sure it was Ed who scouted young Daniel James, nowt to do with Ole and Giggs obviously having close relationship and Giggs didn't refer him.

You're clearly not as bright as you think you are.

Watched it now. Yes it’s a new season. Let’s be positive, you never know. Comment about the fans unforgivable. Very political line about transfer window. Vacuous.
So for you, abusing players is the way to go? Is there a world where people say abusing other human beings (forget about players) is alright? I may have missed something.
