He certainly isn’t expected to be a starter is he? Great prospect but nowhere near PL level.
He won't be a starter right away but he'll be a starter by the time the season is over. His competition is Lingard...

Rarely, the whole 'tired legs' thing is overplayed by fans anyhow. It's 2019, professional players, fullbacks especially, are incredibly fit and capable of doing intense sprints up to the 90th minute of most games.

Obviously fresh legs helps and is a bonus, but he's not going to suddenly be murdering a fullback just because he's come on late, or all PL clubs would be utilising that tactic all of the time. And the quality on the end of his runs has to be questioned considering his pretty average output at championship level, where I'm going to say the athleticism and ability of defenders is generally much lower. It's mostly just hope and the fact he's a new, exciting new signing driving these narratives, which I don't blame people for .. I've fallen victim to it myself at times with many players.

He's a talent but I'd really be surprised if he had any major impact first season, good time to bed him in/get some games in the cups and use him in a sub some games. He's a 21 year old coming from a lower league.
Yeah if any of this was true Traore of Wolves would be ripping assholes everywhere.

I don't know but i am pinning a lot of hopes on him to make an impact in the first team. Hopefully he has the guile to isolate the fullback and Pogba can ping in those passes behind into space for him, something like Rooney did for a prime Valencia on the wing
Hopefully he can be like a budget Mbappé for us, those passes Pogba played for him during the World Cup were fantastic

Adama's a great comparison tbh. 5 goals 10 assists in the championship for Middlesbrough last season, and seriously he was sensational in some of those games. Tore defences to pieces and was electric.

Even in the PL Traore's had games where he's looked unplayable and people have gone 'I'd love a punt on him' simply because he's so exciting when running at players. In the PL though that isn't enough and you need to show plenty more to make it, does James have that yet? Got my doubts from what I've seen of him, but I do think he'll add a bit of directness and something United currently lack, so could be a good tactical option. I do also think he'll be highly frustrating at times though and will be interesting to see if the fans back him despite that.

Agree with all of that, we both know the sheer pace of Lennon in his prime but with out a last intelligent pass or shot or some vision you end up with not a lot.

As long as he messes up while trying hard he'll be forgiven. It's the lack of effort from our creative players that drives us mad.

Sanchez doesn't play on the right and even though Dan James has played on the left for most part, I am reasonably confident that he'll be playing RW. I think Sanchez will be used in rotation with Martial and Rashford for LW and striker positions. While James, Lingard and Mata compete for a spot on the right.

Admittedly I've not seen a lot of him but he's meant to be primarily a LW, so I think he'd be back up to Martial, I don't think we'll see too much of Sanchez next season.
He played a fair few games on the right for Swansea and when we were signing him we apparently spoke to Giggs about whether he would be a good fit on our right wing and Giggs gave a glowing report. I expect we have signed him as a back up for both wings but I would not be shocked to see him get a few starts on the right and based on his competition he could well make the position his own.

I'm sure we'll give him a go on the right see what he can do, Christ I'd be half willing to try De Gea there with our current options.

When does this ever happen? He’s a good player but you can’t expect him to be a game changer.
Happens all the time. Ever played football? Ole himself made a living out of coming off the bench and changing a game. Fresh legs. Fresh legs vs tired legs.

To be honest I still did love Lennon! Him and Bale on both wings was .

I have a thing for direct, pacey wide players but am also aware that they aren't always the most productive even if they do entertain the fans. Rarely do you get a player with that ability who is also fantastic technically.

If that's his competition then there's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't be starting ahead of him within a few weeks!

Yeah I liked Lennon too, but you have to say his legs were faster than his brain and his inability to strike a ball had me raging .

Oh yeah, he couldn't shoot to save his life. A solid 90% of his goals went underneath or through the keeper.

Great to watch though, honestly if James could be a similar option that wouldn't be a bad thing for United.

Yep, I hope we tell him to stick wide get the ball and just run at the fullback all day long. If he’s got speed and fitness as they say, he will wear them out in no time.

Not only this, but he's (Alexis) currently injured and I reckon, if he stays, we'll be lucky to get him to play two consecutive games in a row at this rate.

If Sanchez had any honour, he'd call the club and tell them he wants out if they pay him 1 year of his wages.

But the money is too much so I guess he will stay put and receive that fat paycheck whilst playing with his dogs at home.

What is the point of this needless negativity?

He's a young lad, let people be excited about him.
Oh wow really missed the mark with that one didn't I. I wasn't going for a negative comment at all. I am very excited about him I just see him better suited for a different role for us that's all. Valencia was a great winger for us because of his speed and stamina, but he became an even better bombing fullback for those two qualities. I wouldn't say Valencia was blessed with natural ability like a lot of footballers are, but I still shower him with praise like I am doing here for James.

But Valencia the winger was better than Valencia the full-back.

I think most would agree with that.

Valencia the winger had Rooney on the receiving ends of his pin-point crosses (How I have missed that)... I'm not sure if the winger Valencia would be that impressive it it was Lukaku at the end of his crosses.

Valencia was a monster at the wing during his peak years. Before the CL final in 2011, Guardiola called him the best winger in the world and that's very high praise coming from someone like that, whatever our feelings as fans towards him are due to him being City's manager.

I'd be more than delighted if Dan James gets to such a level, it would be fantastic but let's be real - they are totally different players and speed is the only common factor. My hope is that James turns into more of an incredibly fast playmaking attacking player as we really lack this in the final third. Someone like that would massively help our other forwards to focus on finding spaces and scoring goals that we so much lack these days.

Adama is a very poor comparison. He is just head down and run player who barly use his teammates. Going by performance Videos, James isnt that type of player.

Only thing they have in common is pace.

He's a good comparison in that they're both direct players who have attributes which excite fans. Adama is also an excellent dribbler and in the championship started to look a gem of a player.

They're not exactly the same and I'm not saying James doesn't differ, I do think he's going to be better than Adama. But he can very much be a head down player at times for Swansea (I watched plenty of their full games last season, championship is a league I have a lot of time for), not to the extent of Traore but it's certainly a part of his game. As it is for most direct, pacey wingers.

No, it's very poor comparison. You are comparing 2 players just because they have pace, when one is head down and run player and other plays passes and doesn't always try to dribble.

Yeah I'm going to settle on the fact you really haven't seen much of James. You've literally just said you watch performance videos.

Traore had more assists in the championship than James. But if you want to imagine James is some clever winger who will always have his head up, that's fine. Most of his best work has come when he has his head down and is direct.

The original point wasn't even that their styles are similar, it was that Traore was pretty productive in the championship (more so than James) and looked a serious player. Soon as he got in to the Premier League he can barely pick up a goal or an assist.

Really excited to see him play, seems like a while since I felt that over a new signing for us - potentially not since Pogba returned.

I watched individual performance videos (of individual games), not just youtube compilations where they show just best bits. I watched Adama enough times to say they aren't similar style players and apart from raw pace they have nothing in common.

Just to give you some context, Adama attempts 12.5 dribbles per 90 mins and James attempts 2.7 dribbles per 90 mins. That's as much as your regular winger.

Apart from pace there is nothing in common.

What Adama did at Championship and PL is irrelevant, both are different players. I can pick bunch of players who didn't score much in inferior leagues but scored shit loads in bigger leagues, end of the day both players are different and it depends on how they adapt to new team and league.

I'm excited about James, he's going to get his chances pre-season to shine.

If he takes them, there's no reason why he'll not be first choice when the league starts; I think the fans will take to him, attitude seems good.

James is a better decision maker, so it doesn't surprise me that he attempts less dribbles. Traore's big weakness has always been that he overplays to a ridiculous extent ( to the point where a move breaks down).

But that doesn't mean that similarities can't be found in their style and career path. They're both pacey wingers, similar in terms of output in the championship, similar in terms of age when they went to the PL, and they're both silky dribblers on the ball. You're acting like they're completely alien in style, they're not. James is still a very direct winger and his best attribute (like Traore) is still his speed, it's just he's capable of making use of that more than Traore is because he makes better decisions most of the time.

My point is that James has a couple of similar qualities to Traore, it's not just one. You keep talking about just pace but Traore/James are both excellent dribblers in 1vs1 situations, they're not just kick and run merchants although both are capable of that. James can also be hugely frustrating in his decision making at times though, saw plenty of games for Swansea where he was making the wrong choices. He's better than Traore at it and just generally more gifted technically (both in shooting/passing) but the similarities in their playing style at championship level are there. In my opinion at least.

I've honestly always believed that there's a coach out there who could get a world class player out of Adama Traore though, so I might be slightly skewed in this. Always had a soft spot for him and even wanted Spurs to sign him at some point, which would probably have been horrendous.

Well at least the tune has changed.

You can compare any players and there will be similarities. For me their similarities ends at both have ridiculous pace and wingers. That's it. If you want to extend a bit then they played in championship.

Re bold part, that's what I said. One is pace and other is both are wingers. That's it.
