Again - to me he handled Pogba questions well. Transfer questions - ok. Ultimately I obviously agree that he can't do much being hugely dependent on the people that hired him just couple of months ago not based on credentials.

What I can't condone is calling out vocal fans like that in a pre-season presser. Completely unjust and completely needless comment which divides the fanbase whatever way you put it.

You do know the cost in terms of merchandise, tickets, travel that those vocal fans pay year after year after being served crap year after year. And they have to be happy and keep their mouth shut?

We're in the middle of the season, hardly the fans are vocal about results and losses, we haven't even kicked a ball so the disgruntled ones are obviously the ones that doesn't like the structure and how the club is run. Put aside the idiots abusing Rashford, Lingard and Pogba - we had those decades ago doing the same to the likes of O'Shea, Fletcher, etc.
Wait so for you, insulting players, is somehow justified because you pay a high price to travel? Oh ok, wow... what have we decide to accept, I have no idea. You are determined to shit on Ole on this point, and making sure to not get his words properly. Why such determination, I have no idea, but this is very frustrating, and you are obviously a composed person and all so it's even harder to comprehend that point.

I'm not siding with those who insult the players mate. Far from it. If you have seen the Lingard thread I'm actually on his side and against people that abuse him. Same for Pogba same for everybody who puts on the shirt and shows 100% on the pitch or in Pogba's case is world class player and deserves to be in the starting line up.

Problem is we don't know who he has in mind in that presser. Currently there aren't any games on, hardly means those on Lingard's twitter page. Those who fabricated the bust up between Lingard and Pogba are the media, not the fans, and he addressed the media.

The discontent at the moment is against how the club is ran, not our performance on the pitch as there are no games currently. As I said it's frustrating seeing United's manager who is 6 months in to take a dig at the fans, especially without singling those he had in mind.

If he comes in and says he means those shitting on Lingard and Pogba - I have no problem with that. But up in the air like that it creates a rift.

Ole is at a tough spot, that's clear and it's unlikely that it will get better. During games I'll support him, no doubt about that I want us to do well. Have nothing personal against him or some kind of agenda. If we don't do well or I can't agree with something he says in the presser I'd criticize him - just like any other fan.

I am sure you mean well mate. It's just that that point, just because Ole didn't say specifically that type of fan or whatever, has no reason to make big news. If being vocal lead to violence, even if it's against how the club is ran, it is not acceptable. English football has moved on, hopefully, from violence.

Ultimately, Ole has a lot of work to do in order to make sure the squad is motivated and able to deliver. That's what matters. Can we get more players in? Hopefully, I think we will get 1 or 2 indeed, but it's always hard for us.

I would honestly have let Jones out on a free transfer when we had the chance last year, the problem is I don't expect generally bad/average players to be easy to sell but my point is that the club shouldn't be renewing their contracts after years of poor performances. It would be a symbolic gesture as much as anything (like letting Fellani go to finally rid us of the hoof ball association) and would be appreciated by the fans.
Most probably would have but I genuinely think Jose wanted to keep Jones. He often spoke very positively about Jones and often played him whenever fit.

But the blame all goes on Ed.

Do you want the manager of the club to come out and say the squad he has is inadequate and we won't achieve anything if we don't sign anybody? I'm sorry but in no leadership program are they going to teach a leader to publicly demoralize his subordinates and anger his superiors at the same time. If you are like SAF and Pep who have sufficient credit in the bank maybe you can get away with it, Ole has nowhere near that either with the board, nor with the players. It would be professional suicide to come out and criticize both of them before the season has even started. I'm sure behind closed doors, he has already made it clear to Woodward and co that signings are needed, but there's no benefit of doing it publicly.
I'm not against Ole by the way. I merely stated He could've said "We could always improve in this transfer window but I'm happy, the lads are good in training, etc" to indicate He's still looking for improvement without belittling anyone, let alone himself.

And it would have satisfied majority of the supporters. Neutral statement You could say. Hence why I highlighted his choice of words could be better but hey it's a feckin press conference, it's just because off-season this gets overblown.

Also, Van Gaal was talking about sex masochism, Jose was moaning about football herritage, Moyes was aspiring to be like City. Compared to them, Ole's press conference is like music to my ears.

You prefer Ole's Pressers to LvG's!?

Or even early Mourinho?

Ole's Press Conferences are very similar to early Moyes - sit and grin, 'we're a long way from the top', focus on fitness and running, 'the squad is great', lottery winner vibes etc.

LvG's were great, and early Mourinho's were great too.

Really? Do you actually remember Mourinho's early Pressers...?

'This club belongs at the top', 'winning trophies' etc?

You prefer what you're hearing now to that...? Wow.

Mourinho was great for that 1st season, both in press and in trophies, and the footy was alright as well.

You're probably being swayed by personal emotion I'd say.

During the first season under LVG and under Mourinho the club, at least on the outside, looked like it was behaving exactly the right way. From what was said in press conferences, controlling the narrative on transfers, signing players the press and pundits could get excited about.

In that regard the way Ole and the club are behaving this summer looks exactly the same as the Moyes summer, but without the early transfer optimism that came with targeting Bale and Fabregas.

We heard those PCs from Ole too and then I heard how every team spent money except us, how he was drooling over opponent players instead of preparing the team, I saw him calling Glazers as great owners, I saw him praising Woodward in his early PCs. I saw him shit on the club after Sevilla game too.

Yeah, I prefer Ole's PC without any doubt.

The new season is closing in, hopefully Ole really believes the squad is good enough and feels ready for the battle ahead, what I fear is that Ole wanted more changes in the squad and not necessarily just new players in. We have really failed to offload players that in certain aspects were responsible for a absolutely terrible season. Don't feel that Ole's given a proper shot at the job.

TBH if Maguire comes in and one midfielder I would start to feel more positive even though we need more than that instantly.

We’d have a foundation to build from the back and hopefully Olés training switch of focus would also add to an underpinning change of direction.

As it stands though, and the blame lies squarely with Ed and co, he hasn’t been given the backing to do a good job here and we are definitely weaker than last year.

I’d put money on us dropping even further down the league if the squad is not added to

I agree with this. I think 95% of fans would agree we need a CB and CM.

However; quite alot have had a go at me for questioning the lack of activity by saying do you think we are not trying? bid for Maguire, Yeder, and Bruno. But this Maguire thing has been going on for a month? same with Bruno?

If they rejected it, up the bid or forget about him and go for someone else. Bruno negotiations just seem to drag.. I dont think we will sign him.

Then we have the random scattergun targets such as Diop, Longstaff, Lemina.

There is no strategy? Go for your first choice, if you fail go hard on the second, dont just put feelers out to 5/6 diff targets?

No, not LvG. They're always fun :D.

Ruined by the fact that his philosophy didn't fit United though.

Absolutely. The rest he has hardly being blamed on.

As I've said even if he doesn't want to be polemic with the board is ok considering our position, but the comment about the fans is shit and should be called out for.

It's hardly an uproar, but if it wasn't for the fans he wouldn't be here in the first place.
He's adressing fans that harass the players. I'm happy he speaks out against them.

This post isn’t against you but I like the way you defend Ole so I will widen the discussion from my perspective a little bit. You will probably laugh or find me odd but I give you that.

When I criticize something I mostly do it from three different angles. A) As a frustrated supporter B) from the perspective as a former investor and a business man C) as someone with experience from c-level management and board room discussions. So sometimes I’m just a crazy fan and sometimes I know my onions...

I was deeply wrong regarding the Glazers. I had a naive idea that they would protect their investment in the best possible way. Time had prove me and many others that this was not their intentions. In the beginning of their ownership it was quite easy to understand and predict their future business plan. In short let the club pay the PIK loans and their initial investment. I thought from there (after the PIK loan was repaid) that they would see the benefits of letting the football side of the club continue be successful.

Unfortunately at that time the captain of this gigantic ship called United decided to retire with short notice. Instead of doing a professional due diligence they decided to trust the old man and with his recommendations hired a dark horse called David Moyes. Worst decision ever in the history of modern football and without a experienced captain the ship started to sink. (On top of that David Gill decided to move on. We lost two giants in less then a month)

Then fast forward to captain four. Another dark horse with limited experience, but in his favor comes tons of credibility from us supporters and that we all know that he had the clubs best interest in his heart.

I think most of us are in agreement that atm the owners are the supporters worst enemy. Then comes Woodward. We love how he handle the business side of the club but we are highly suspicious about his football knowledge. Then at third level comes the manager who are the clubs main communicator regarding our first team, transfers and results. When things go wrong he’s the one who will absorb all the frustration and abuses. Finally we have the players all from first year academy products to the big guns like Pogba, DDG and Lukaku. As a fickle fan I can hate them too when things go south. Blame is fun even if it’s often unfair.

To my main point.

I want to get rid of the owners.

I want us to find a DoF who take care of the football side of our club. I want us to be successful, enjoy the games and see us win trophies. For me the owners, our CEO and most managers are temporary parts of the club I love.

The only one who wasn’t temporary was Sir Alex. My hero in every aspects of life. I learned from him, he gave me inspiration about how to live my life. His methods was often my guidance when I was involved in management.

When he retired a part of my passion left my soul. I wasn’t a young teenager any longer in form of passion and commitment. I was a senior, someone who helped others, a mentor and suddenly I could see our players and new managers in a different light. Gone was the blind love and suddenly I could accept a loss without going bananas. It was a strange felling.

When I first heard Ole Gunnar talked about ruthlessness, getting rid of the deadwood, I was surprised but a felt inspired again. Wow. A ex player, a legend, someone with real power saw what I saw, we wanted the same thing. Maybe it sound strange but suddenly I started to believe in changes. New owners! I was even willing to take onboard the Saudi’s in order to make things happen. A DoF? Wow! Finally our club was willing to be modern and maybe we could have a new structure before next transfer window. My friend who’s a fanatic Liverpool supporter often laughed at me. I wanted revenge. In my worst periods I was willing to brake his leg, destroy his car, especially when they won the CL. He had all the things that was mine. Glory, happiness and spectacular football. Even the clown Klopp was better then my guy. Gollum inside of me didn’t liked it.

So when Ole Gunnar started to become a yes man the supporter inside me was deeply disappointed. Off course I could understand the rational side of why he “protected” the owners and Woody but still, I was disappointed.

Maybe I was hoping for a miracle, a new Sir Alex, even if I knew that I will never see a man like him again in my lifetime.

But as you know the more I heard from Ole Gunnar the more I realized that he was even more inexperienced in management then me. Feck, it hit me that I was old, a senior. So every time I heard his “excuses” I got irritated. My target wasn’t really Solskjaer, but when he acted as a “yes” man I saw the owners and let that anger directed at Ole Gunnar Solskjær.

I still hope that Ole can turn this around. I’m highly skeptical because I can see his flaws, his inexperience and his lack of authority.

In my dreams I hope his biggest contribution will be to “force” the owners to invest so we get better. I know I can’t expect him to sacrifice his on career but there you have my perspective. Sorry for a long text.

Yours sinceerely

Why would you want that? It clearly isn't so i actually hope Ole knows that so at least he can mitigate the damage.

If we don't make some substantial signings then he'll need to be pragmatic rather than just playing his desired style.

I didn't find you or your post odd. End of the day we all want what's best for the club and we just believe in different things to achieve that. We all are passionate about our club and can't wait to see the club back at the top again.

Agree with most of what you said. Hopefully he puts more pressure on the board to get the signings done behind the scenes.

Lets see how the season pans out.

Mr pragmatic himself failed, what makes you think Ole is going to do better with a style that doesn't fit his system? I really want Ole to do well here, just dissapointed our board doesn't feel the same urgency as some of us fans do.

Yeah... it almost did though, didn't it?

Like, when I look back to the way we played under LvG, the beatings he dished out to Liverpool and City (who were still good teams then, albeit not as strong as they are now, but still...), the way he could control possession so effortlessly in the midfield I really think we missed a crucial opportunity to hire a suitable successor who could build on those foundations and add the thing that LvG could just never get right - the attack.

LvG's footy was so, so dull by the end, but if you had, say, Pochettino, taking over straight after LvG, and then being backed...

Well, I think we'd have won the PL again by now. Genuinely.
That guy had some bad luck. He made so many seemingly great signings and his tactical approach when he first arrived was at times genius. Yet who would have figured DiMaria would eventually break down and flop? Or Falcao never really hit the ground at all? Angel dominated during the World Cup prior to signing - in my opinion he did more for Argentina than Messi throughout that particular competition - and Falcao too was one of the bigger names in football. Looking at both their careers their time in England stands out as the only real low-point so it was incredibly unlucky that neither of them managed adapting to the Premier League. Depay too proved disappointing -which I would have never guessed having seen him prior to his arrival - and even though they're not exactly offensive investments - Schweisteiger and Schneiderlin failed to make the big impact you'd expect as well. All of these signings you'd think would guarantees success even in the hands of a drooling toddler - yet we fell short.

I still feel Van Gaal was treated harshly. Not by the fans or the club (though I would have given him six more months to be fair) - both performances and results were in decline so him having to go was disappointing but understandable - but by fate. I believe that's why he started becoming more and more erratic in his approach too - because no matter what he did - even while doing everything right - that poor fellow just couldn't catch a break. I was very glad when we won the cup because quite frankly he deserved some form of consolation prize.

Oh and yeah his press conferences were definitely more entertaining than Solskjær's - but whether or not that makes him better in that department though is a different question altogether

This has to be a wind up.
We were arguably the most boring team to watch in the league.
We were completely risk averse - the opposite of what exciting football should be.
LVG was the complete opposite of Fergie, in ever way.

I can only assume that you did not watch us and simply did a google to check the scorelines in games.

We did not control possession. Rival teams knew that when had the ball, we could do nothing with it. So, they let us have it, sucked us into the final 3rd of the pitch, got the ball and would hit us hard and fast on the counter. That's how Jose's Chelsea beat LVG and from that point onwards, other teams copied the blue-print.

We would then go on to lose against the likes of Norwich and Stoke, during the Xmas and New Year period. At this point, LVG's MUFC was not only the most boring, but the results were terrible. We dropped from 1st to 5th in the space of 6 weeks. Absolute shambles.

I have doubts about Ole but that's over what I see on the pitch. How people are getting frustrated because he's not pushing their agendas in interviews and press conferences is another matter

Isn't Ole saying similar things now about United having to be at the top? Didn't he say he would also be successful here?

Not sure what else you expect him to say, he's been overly positive thus far.

Nonchalantly scoring the winner...

Read posts properly before wading in...

LvG's footy was so, so dull by the end
You mention not watching games and just checking the scores - did you watch any of LvG's games against Liverpool? Or when we thrashed City?

I'd suggest not given the drivel you're spouting above. Because if you'd watched those games, you'd have seen the beautiful passing triangles and tactical dominance that LvG could set-up - particularly through the left middle.

Teams couldn't get the ball from LvG, but he couldn't get the attack right, and the players he had lacked that forward pass.

His insistence on playing Rooney and not using pace and penetration up front was his downfall.

And as I stated, clearly, in the initial post - the footy became utterly dull.

But to suggest the work he did couldn't have been built upon is complete nonsense.

You serious? You think Ole hasn't been lowering expectations since before the previous season even ended...?

Really?

I'd expect even Ole apologists who believe he'll do a good job to accept that he's actively attempted to lower expectations since becoming manager proper.

Surely that's not even subjective?

Feck no! There's no pleasing some of our lot that's for sure.

He's stated he will be successful, some players aren't good enough. That fitness badly needs to improve which it fecking does after Jose had them walking around the pitch after conceding possession as part of his master plan! He's focusing on talented young players with potential to vastly improve.

Precisely, what is it you'd have him say? Your the genius undermining him here so pray tell us here what is it you'd have him say?

He stated after Everton some players aren't good enough and wants rid of them, in reality moving them on is proving very difficult. As I've said elsewhere on this thread, you can't in one sentiment be slating these players saying they are not good enough but then blame Ole for not finding new clubs for them. If us mere plebs without the level of football knowledge they have can see it, how the feck can you expect top level managers to willingly part with transfer funds to buy them from us!

Reality is this, we're fighting for top 4 in the coming season and we build on it from there.

The club is now just a money making machine for some rich family, how can people not see that?

In reality Woody has to complete some decent transfers in the next 2 weeks or we are heading down a familiar path, poor admin not providing the club and the manager the resources that has been painfully obvious.

If the owners are sitting back and allowing their investment to be treated this way, then the general consensus that it's all about what funds they can generate for their personal use, not what it best for the fottball side of the venture seems correct. This is down to the CEO they have let remain in charge of all things Man Utd with what appears to be little or no consequence.

.....As I've said even if he doesn't want to be polemic with the board is ok considering our position, but the comment about the fans is shit and should be called out for......
ok so it is ok for everyone to come on here and slag off Ole and have an opinion (and rightly so everyone entitled to their opinion) but if Ole has an opinion or says anything that some fans don’t agree with it’ shit?!?!?!

If you dish it out you have to take it as well......grow some!

Difference is - we're dishing out in an internet forum which Ole hardly reads, whilst the other excerpt is broadcasted around the world.

Let's not compare the two as the magnitude is completely different.
That is a cop out answer, you can say what you like because no one has heard of you but Ole can’t respond because he is well known and more people will be interested?!?

He is a human being, has opinions, has his own mind and is just as entitled to voice it as you. You don’t have to agree but you can’t moan about someone responding to your comments just because they are in the spotlight and you are a nobody

I don't get your point? Ole moans about the fans, some fans moan about his comments? Everyone is entitled to their opinion as you said, so where is the problem?
