What’s the point of putting out a Chelsea team that would struggle in a Sunday league, let alone a higher level?
It's not uncommon for teams to have scratch sides at the late stages of pre season friendlys, especially this early.

The team that ended the Arsenal game in Dublin last year wasn't much better.

I have a question for anyone who's ever played at a fairly high level of football (I just got to a regional level 4 :)

When I see (especially in Germany) a Bundesliga-side play some obscure amateur-team and win 20-0 - which happened a few days ago. What is the point of playing a game like that ? Does it actually give your team something in terms of fitness ? I mean - why play a team that is so bad that they are no opposition ?

These games are a deathly bore. And usually they consist of trying out some system or a player in a new position which is never revisited in the following season. Can't wait to not watch a single friendly match.

The main goal of these friendlies are really getting players in good physical condition and build team chemistry. I wouldn't read too much out of pre-season performances, unless they are truly horrific.

A member of staff has been taken ill and brought to hospital in Perth.
Excuse this here, but didn't know where else to put it.

Often it are matches against local teams. Which is good for the connection to the region. In terms of fitness it does not do that much. Ofcourse it's also nice for the amateurs to be able to play against their hero's.

Often than not, clubs have already had a training session earlier in the game and rotate the entire squad during half time.

Hopefully he's ok.
Yeah just read this. Says it's a man in his 50s who's a part of our coaching staff, and it was an overdose......:nervous:

I'm hoping he's fine, whomever it is..

'Suspected overdose' is what is being reported. Anyway, he's apparently stable and I'm sure he'll get the help he needs, whatever caused his illness...

Edit - I made a mistake, not coaching staff - backroom staff, so could have been anyone really.

Statement from United:

"A member of our backroom staff was taken ill overnight and has been sent to hospital by our club doctor for further treatment. We request that medical confidentiality is respected.”
Probably best not to speculate.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Chelsea away to St Patrick's Athletic today at 2pm.

Can Lampard stop the rot and keep his job?

Are St Patrick's the only football team with an apostrophe in their name?

west ham pen, missed who gave it away but the camera panned onto Angelino so I'm presuming him.

Noble scores

Thought he gave Rodri a worse bollocking. Scoreline harsh on West Ham, Angelino should have conceded a 2nd peno and than we went up the pitch and scored twice.

Also anyone other than David Silva heads that ball instead of taking it down.

Sterling again, bit of a hammering since we took off the kids and brought on the big guns.
