Is it me or everyone is overrating Lingard's movement?

Sure, he runs a lot but is it really effective or he's just headless chicken who running and screaming for the ball?

His movement didn't create chances for himself and didn't get into a good shooting position often, compared to the likes of Mason Greenwood who moved so smartly and timed perfectly with a run. Mason Greenwood has done more than Lingard with movements to get chances in just two games

I am struggling to remember last time when Lingard get into shoot position with his movement to score?

I was wondering what people see in his movement? Because I don't

Wow a negative thread about Lingard? Pretty controversial stuff.

In seriousness, he does work hard and in a team where the other attackers are Lukaku/Martial are starting he obviously will stand out for movement. His movement is pretty good, he does squander some very easy chances though.

His approach to every game is like he’s playing a 4 cone box keep ball training drill. Toothless. Useless.

He needs to adapt the hunger for goal that Greenwood has.

To put it into perspective - Greenwood gets the ball and you sit on the edge of your seat knowing that the end of the possession is an attempt at goal. Lingard gets the ball .......

Lingard is a bang average footballer overall. There's a reason why he never got a look in under Sir Alex as a youth prospect because he's rubbish.

People wonder why this club has struggled to be competitive in the league in the last ten years / finishing 20 points behind leaders is because we've got players like Jesse playing week in week out, what are we to expect ? Him and others are mid table calibre players.

 Why did he rate him so highly then?

Who is over rating Lingard’s movement? He must be one of your most slated players of the moment!

Lingard does not have as much talent as our other attackers, so he makes up for it by running all over the field and generally trying hard. He has a lot of attempts: which means occasionally he scores stunners, but most of the times miss the target. He is essentially the opposite of Martial.

He has started because our defense is weak and Matic is slow, so Lingard's willingness to track back and tackle is important against our lazy forwards.

He is not good enough for top tier opposition. We need a talented winger/cam who can score goals consistently and is also willing to track back.

No one's overrating his movement. That's about the only standout attribute he has, so that is what comes up first when Lingard is concerned.

I do not think even Lingard understands his movements. So how can any of his team mates understand it let alone the opposition.

If Man Utd want to challenge at the top again, Lingard should be no where near the squad. He is just good for 1 or 2 goals a season with some good runs here and there without end results. That's all.

He isn't consistent with his movement. He is up and down player. When he is in form he will deliver in bursts, when not He'll be clueless and ineffective.

He runs away from the ball and hides but since he looks busy he gets praised by his fanboys.

In a fully functioning team, Lingard’s movement and link up play can have a huge impact! Our problem is that Martial, Lukaku etc don’t have the same space awareness/ don’t move to make the most of what Lingard brings to the table! Put him into Liverpool or Man City’s team and you’d see his value!

This is also why players like Mata, Mkhitaryan, etc also look poor when playing for us compared to previous clubs!

I think his movements are getting worse.

So disappointing. It's a shame, his movements is supposed to be one of his best traits.

Maybe he's getting lazier or just off form. Used to be consistently good, but now.. idk, too inconsistent and more bad movements than good.

‘Movement’ should be a pre requisite for EVERY footballer on the planet. It really isn’t a difficult attribute or something we should be in awe of that a footballer has great movement.

I’d be more concerned about his ability to find a team mate ten yards away and the way he often just drifts through matches showing nothing on the ball at all.

I bought some of his clothing range, after the first wash, the colours had just ran all over the place.

He has good movement, but it’s made to look better because the movement of the rest of our attackers, for the most part, is awful.

If you want an example of a player with world class movement, you look at a player like Cavani, and all the positions he gets himself in. Best in the world in that respect for me.

Still, for all his faults, a lot of our other attackers would benefit from showing the same willingness to move about and try to make something happen that Lingard shows.

Only those of us who truly understand football appreciate Jesse Lingard's movement.
This is a truly hilarious post.

Some people seem to suggest that Jesse Lingard is some sort of 'emerging' player. The guy has played nearly 200 (yes, two hundred..) games for United.

An average player who is best known for his nonsense off the pitch.

He is actually a quite intelligent player.
His movement is very good, but the level of hate he gets on here clouds people's judgement it seems

This pretty much encapsulates how sad things are. Manchester United forwards need to look to Jesse Lingard for an example of how to approach their game.

The blind leading the blind.....

I'm pretty sure that it was sarcasm.

Lingard's movement is good. He is one of the few of our players that understand when and how to press (the other one was Herrera); he is capable of creating a numerical advantage on a given part of the pitch — it's also something that our other players rarely do. But it's not truly outstanding (like Griezmann's, Müller's etc.), and his obvious limitations on the ball take away a lot of potential threat generated by his decent movement.

You just realized that?

It has been the case for years now.

Simply his defenders don't want to admit they are wrong in defending so they are searching for anything to praise him for and thus this myth was created.

You say he's crap, does nothing and wonders why he's starting just to find someone replaying "he moves alot!", as if we can't have a top player who produce things and also moves a lot.
