I had kind of given up on top gear and I wasn’t really expecting to like Paddy and Freddie but these first two have been hilarious at times.

Never thought I would say it but this is funny, fresh and actually good.

As long as they leave the car segments to Harris this works.

Yeah I really enjoyed it again too, the moment that wooden flap hit flintoff on the head sealed it for me, the chemistry between the 3 is really good, I’d say it’s definitely getting back to it’s best again.

It feels like they are getting better and they have good chemistry. Flintoff has really helped. The water melon was a bit harsh though

A couple of decent challenges as well. I don't think Top Gear will ever go back to it's best days many years ago but this is as good as it has been for a while.

Do we reckon Freddie was actually driving, flinging the back end of a hearse out on a dirt track? I guess they will have had some training in driving that looks good for the camera.

I really like the dynamics. Seems quite organic and their TV personas seem quite aligned with their who they actually are. Laddish.

I only worry about the exportability of the show. Their accents could be too northern for Americans or elsewhere (other than the southerner, Chris.)
Good point about the accents. I struggle at times to understand Paddy, mostly when he gets excited or talks fast which is a bit annoying.

At least I have the option of getting subtitles if I wanted to, but that won’t be the case for people who watch the show on tv in America or Australia for example.

I thought manhandling Chris in Epi 3 and stuffing him into the hearst was uncalled for.

Its something teenagers can get away with but for a grown man to do it to a short adult, is poor optics for the BBC. I am sure its something all too familiar for Chris when growing up. (I was a prop at school and occasionally I got lifted up even at 16 stones. It wasn't any fun.)

Otherwise, it was quite fun.

Quite obviously he was happy to go along with it, it wasn't just a random stunt. He's made a statement on his twitter that all the height jokes are purely banter and he's fine with it.

It was funny but I'd like to see them all equally get taken the piss out of. One of the problems with Old Top Gear was Clarkson was too untouchable and the banter was one sided.. in reality with most friendship groups, well healthy ones anyway it is more spread out who gets the piss taken out of them.

The fuel station bingo game was great, I almost pissed myself when paddy stopped after Freddie said to.

Have to say, I really thought this would be shite but it's been very good so far. I'm just not sure how much longevity is in the format, which is essentially them doing silly stuff together with Chris reviewing a car in between.

It's entertaining, I just wish they would bin the celebrity guest bits because I end up zoning out until they finish.

Yeah seems pointless now. It's not very entertaining. At least make them do a rally course or something.

This has been great so far, which bodes well going forward as you’d assume the first few episodes would be the worst/most awkward.

Chemistry between the three is excellent, and I feel Freddie is naturally a funny guy and seems to be good fun to be around.

I was skeptical about this new grouping but it is certainly better than I thought. I'm not a fan of Paddy McGuiness but he comes across quite well in this. Flintoff can be a bit of a bully at times but if the others keep him in check it might be better.

The celebrity bit seems to just be there to add money for the budget for booking fees, it adds nothing to the programme.

The bit on electric cars though was hopelessly out of date and I hope they buck their ideas up on that score. Overall it has got better I just hope they can keep some of the laddishness in check.

You can tell massively when they're reading lines, as you could with the previous bunch. The difference being that this time it seems like there's bits where they aren't and they're just taking the piss out of each other. That's what's making it better for me.

It's caus it's just not believable hearing Freddie (particularly) talk about cars. Yeah, he can say 'it went fast' or 'it went round the corner' but as soon as he starts talking figures, stats, or even models you know he's reading off a script. Whether he reads a script naturally or not is secondary to that.

Clarkson, May and Hammond had that motor journalist background which made it come across as more off the cuff.

Still, it's been very good so far.

Most of the stuff he is saying about the Supra is wrong.
Chris was bang on, gone from a ground breaking 2jz that’s still used and loved today to making a it a bmw with a supra badge.

It may be a good modern sports car but it’s not ground breaking and it’s not a Toyota supra

Where was it? I was trying to work it out, looked like the road from hirwaun to beacons at points but not sure

Series end already. They could’ve made a few more episodes.

I guess it’ll be a xmas special next then.
