By the looks of it we will go through yet another summer without getting one and I'm actually loss for words.. There's players out there like Pèpè, Chiesa, Neres, Ziyech etc and we are just blatantly ignoring recruiting for a position we have been lackluster in for years. People in charge of transfers here are beyond stupid.

Really like the look of Lee Kang-in. Only saw bits and pieces of him last season at Valencia where he wasn't particularly impressive — but he was exceptional at the U-20 World Cup (where he won the Golden Ball), and bears an uncanny resemblance to Bernardo Silva from an aesthetic/functional/playmaking standpoint. Still quite raw and tends to dwell on the ball, not a pure winger (more of a fluid press-resistant attacker who can operate through the middle or the inside channels) and don't think he's ready to make an instant impact...but should definitely be on United's radar because of his overall potential, despite the steep €80 million release clause.
Looks like a better despite less physical version of Lemina. Not sure if EPL is the right league for these kind of players. 80M is too much anyway. We need a pure winger we should break the bank for a WC one.

It's madness. We haven't had genuine waulity at RW since Nani/Valencia, and that was aeons ago. At least at LW we've seen Martial boss it for a season and then spells. RW has been a joke and not fixing for another summer is ridiculous.

This was one of the most important signings this window seeing our state of attack and also all teams knowing we only play from our left. Quite worrying we are not even reliably linked with anyone. Are we going into another season with Lingard, Mata and now Mason on the right?

I agree with many that we desperately do need a RW. However I mentioned on the transfer tweet thread that I personally think the club are hell bent on getting Jadon Sancho, hence why they are not entertaining any idea of bringing one in this summer as much as we could do with one right now. Save that position for him next season. I think the priorities this summer were sorting out the defence and central midfield. Look at the players, we’ve been recently linked with. All CB’s & CM’s.

I can only imagine (hope) that we want to secure CL football and go after Sancho next summer.

If our recruitment starts improving over the next couple of weeks why wouldn't we try Sancho then when the project looks more positive?

If it's a no go, and we are indeed waiting a year to try to sign him, we might be best served with a fee-paying loan for a right winger.

They say Ziyech has a 30m GBP release clause. What are we waiting for?

Perhaps the thread title needs to be changed to ‘Summer 2020 right winger’, as that’s what it looks like atm.

Unless we think James was purchased to play on the right, I guess.

I can't believe there's not a single person at our club, that looked at our starting front 3 of Martial Rashford and Lingard/Mata, and didn't think, feck we need to upgrade on this.

Boggles the mind. Personally really looking forward to see Jesse fecking Lingard start for another season on the right.

Clearly we did think we needed to upgrade, hence our pursuit of Sancho. The real head scratcher is what our plan is once we realized Sancho was unattainable this summer. To your point, though, I don't think the club is standing pat because they believe our current wing options are good enough. We just didn't seem to have a Plan B once our first choice option did not work out.

Why don't we loan a right winger and fill the Gap with proper balance before we buy. players like Costa or Bernardeshi or even Malcom may be available on loan.

Madness if we don’t get one. Ole possibly hinted that there might be work going on by saying he can’t tell the reporter what he has in mind for the right wing, but that’s 50/50 at best I’d say.
The only hope I have is that Greenwood plays well from there, even though I think he should focus on number 9, and he’s very young.

I wouldn't mind not signing a RW if we can get a CM and CB in. Wait till next year and if we have champions league go for Sancho, then this team will challenge for the title.

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
Mctominay Pogba
Sancho Bruno Martial / James
Rashford / Greenwood

Agree. Think they'll try to make do with what we have there for this season, a mixture of Lingard/mata/Greenwood/James and hoping one steps up in the mean time. Sancho is almost definitely the one we're hell bent on getting, but this summer he didnt want to leave Dortmund which is fair enough, he hasnt been there too long. Its understandable, seeing as we aren't winning the title anyway and we have other big issues to fix that can push us up to be big favourites for top 4 at the very least (like CB and a midfielded).

Is clear that Sancho is the clear winner in the poll. Do you think he will continue being the caf's favorite next transfer window? Or it would be another fans favorite?

Can’t Daniel James play RW.

Not sure if he’s ready for first team but it looks like it’ll be him and lingard/mata as our RW for next season.

I would love us to go for Hudson Odoi whom I think will end up being better than Sancho anyway but no way Chelsea will sell him to us.
I think it will not take long before Greenwood will be getting regular action on the right wing and defenders will be having nightmares.

I would have gone for someone young, promising and preferably versatile. Then if it doesn't work out we go for Jadon

My favourites would have been bergwijn and brooks

Either the club are hell-bent on Sancho or they feel we have enough young talent coming through that we can rely on them. If the former then a loan for Bale looks increasingly like a no-brainer to me (subject to cost) if the latter then I wholeheartedly support the club giving someone like Greenwood or Gomes a season to stake a claim

Need to make a "Summer 2020 right winger" thread, I think.
And then probably a 2021 version.
Last season Lingard and Mata were playing on the right side of attack. Sometimes Lukaku also plays there. And there is a case for Dalot to play there, as he gets older. And doesn't T.Chong play on the RW, also?

You see where I am going with this?

There is absolutely no reason for us to buy a RW, unless we want to win the league (which we is not the target of the board).

Given all of the above, I don't see us buying a RW anytime soon.

Now, if Woodward goes and we have a DoF who wants to win the league, we will certainly need to buy a "proper" RW.

Do think that any of Chiesa, Pepe, Under, Dembele, Malcom, Pulisic, Neres,... would end up being a better winger than Sancho?

Chiesa and Dembele could turn out to be better. Both players are still very young and have enormous potential.

These Zaniolo rumours are heartening. If we're all in for Sancho in 2020 the reasonable move at RW this summer is either a loan signee like Bale or Malcolm or sign a versatile player like Zaniolo, Ziyech, Soler attacking midfielder type who can play on the right and as a 10 (when we diamond it) for us this year but likely move central more permanently if Sancho comes.

Though part of me thinks Sancho being a right footer he might be as good or better at LW anyways and that Martial fighting for a 3rd spot with a new RW signing this year makes sense longterm, or even selling him if Greenwood emerges as another goalscoring option across the front line.

A crazier option that would maybe work but never happen would be a loan swap of one of our extra CBs like Rojo, Bailly, Jones or Tuanzebe to a team desperate at CB but with a potentially quality or unsettled right wing option if such a team exists, like Deulofeu at Watford or even the Iranian fella at Brighton whose name I'll spell wrong (who tore up the Eredisivie as a high up winger but flopped when asked to play deeper) if they sell Dunk to Leicester when we buy Maguire as rumoured. The best option here would be Barcelona selling Umtiti to recoup some needed cash somewhere and in need of a backup CB for this year, we send them Bailly or Rojo on loan along with 5M or so and they give us Malcolm for a year of competent RW play.

Think Sancho is the 2nd most promising u21 attacking player in the world after Mbappe tbh. But things don't always pan out like that. Martial looked a world beater in his first season and was seen as the most promising u21 player, but never kicked on (as of yet).

Ole won’t be here next season if we don’t address the right wing position.

That is a bold statement. Without a capable defender we are not winning.

If we sort our defence out, confidence grows within the attackers = goals.

It doesn't matter what RW we get, if the defence is leaky, wont make a difference.

It’s about balance though, if we don’t sort out attack out, teams will always have confidence to probe our defence and it doesn’t matter how good the defence is if they keep getting tested.

Surely you are not suggesting that a RW is why we get beat? there is players in the squad capable of filling in. Greenwood, Mata, Lingard, Martial, James, Sanchez
