One of the very few positives from last term. Hopefully we can find him a reliable, quality partner for this season.

His agent is apparently making noises which is frustrating

If he has another good year then get him a new contract. At least we'd actually be rewarding more than 6 weeks of decent form this time.

Lindelof was solid last season, with some very good periods so it would be good to give him an extension. A much better member of the squad compared to the likes of Rojo or Jones.

Well that’s not a high bar so he should only get a better contract if he earns it, not before

Agreed but you can't have one rule for one and another for another. If other players got rewarded for underperforming then at the very least Lindelof should get rewarded for actually being good for a season.

Lindelof is one of the players on top of the list for new contracts if we are judging it on performances. It would be blasphemy to give Jones an extension after doing feck all and not to Lindelof.

True.

For what it's worth I don't think he's good enough to build a defence around, if we're still holding ourselves to the same standards as we always have.

For now though he's no doubt the best we've got, a solid centre-half with no huge weaknesses and a seemingly good mentality. I'd prefer someone stronger in the air, with more physicality to their game but hey ho.

New contract I say and, when we're hopefully back where we belong, keep an eye out for real top-class options to build around.

Is there anyone in our squad that's more deserving of a new contract?

But he wasn’t good for a season. He had about 2 months where he was good. The rest? Not good enough

Jones got an extension because he was going out of contract that’s all, so he keeps some value.

No one, including lindelof, deserve a pay rise based on last season

If we're talking going into this summer then Ander and Rashford.

Ander we messed up and Rashford has a new deal.

Lindelof is already on 120k and has multiple years left on his contract. So its not a priority

So what is Jones' footballing and financial value to the club? Was it worth signing him for another 4 or 5 years on some big wages on top of that?

Yes, we’d still get 20m+ for him plus we don’t have to spend more to pickup cover. Keep in mind we need 4 cbs, and jones, injuries aside has done ok, not great but ok

The main point is he hasn’t been given a raise just a new contract. No one has grounds to go and ask for a raise based on last season

I seriously hope he hasn't because Jones has been reportedly getting around £120k per week. Anyways, I hope we don't let Lindelof's contract get into a dangerous zone, whether he deserves a pay-rise or not.

The Ice Man has the potential to become even better, I really believe it.

Didn't realise he was on 120 already. I think he's likely to be acting captain next season, so I don't think he's far off a contract either way.

Put a partner next to him who's comfortable on the ball and we'll see a completely new Lindelof as far as on the ball ability goes

Last season how many times did we see Lindelof pressured whilst the opposition allowed Smalling free reign of the ball?

Apart from a few decent performances in a back 3 (particularly against Arsenal away) I thought his first season in 17/18 was atrocious and that we'd really picked a dud. 2nd season was so much better, despite our team being mostly awful defensively. Really changed my mind about him. Think he'll do even better with a top centre back beside him.

Good statement from him to quash any transfer rumours. Hopefully this is the season he properly cements his #1 status in our defence.

The statement he gave shows why he is an option for the captaincy. Committed to United, you can see he gets on well with Ole, De Gea and others in the squad. It feels the players respect him, calm on the ball, but I feel he still needs to step another level dominating players 1 v 1.

That statement was neither confirm or denial. Players always say that when there's speculation.

Clearly our best centre half. I love the way the players pressing him often end up on their asses when he decides to bring the ball forward.

He always had that ball playing ability, and was even one of his best assets. Hopefully, with more confidence we see him be more aggressive with the ball, and try to play more penetrative passes.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
Okay, that was very good.

Best moments: bringing out the ball and quality build-up passings from the back many times and high alert to danger.

If he will those more consistently though.. would be great.

With a better partner, I see the potential in Victor. The lad could become a world-class CB, he has all the modern abilities.

He really doesn't do much when he plays, does he? Rarely in any kind of contact with oppositions yet Leeds managed to create very good chances, he's like a chameleon. Don't really know what to make of it. He's very OK but I don't feel like he has any kind of heights to reach.

There's always one. I thought it was pretty obvious how good he was today.

What do you want him to do, start making rash challenges like Bailly and Rojo or start punching opponents so that he can be seen. He is doing a solid job, no fuss, just does a solid job as a defender which is what top defenders do. He is not physically imposing , maybe that us why critics don't give him his dues. The best CB we have hands down.
