Imagine Barca being stupid enough to give back all that money they got from PSG in the first place? This transfer fecked the whole market and will end up just being a glorified loan.

Was wondering what the forum thinks is a reasonable price to buy neymar even if hypothetical..
150 mil cane to my mind..
I think a player plus cash deal makes the most sense. The total value of these offers would be around the 160-180m mark which is probably fair given his age and injury history.

United: Pogba + 50-75m
Barca: Coutinho + Semedo/Rakitic + 40m

If they can swap/offload Coutinho and Dembele without adding (a lot of) cash it is a good deal. Cashflow management would be rather interesting.

What we're really seeing is the power that both Messi and Ronaldo carry with both of their clubs clearly going beyond their normal limits trying to bring them closer to another champions league win before their time runs out.

But he doesn't play for himself, he forms great on-field (and it seems off-field too) partnerships with teammates that benefit the team. Linked amazingly well with Messi and Suarez and the same with Mbappe.

Ronaldo plays more for himself than Neymar, you wouldn't take him at the top of his powers either? As above poster said, i think you are extremely clouded because you have a dislike of the guy.
I have never said he isn’t a good footballer, I just can’t stand him is a person, he is everything that is wrong with the game. I’m pretty sure I am not the only one with this view of him.

Great talent. Feel that Mbappé took the shine off him when they signed him shortly after. Should never have went to PSG. There is no challenge in the French league for someone of his quality, and he might has well stayed at Barcelona. I have no real opinion of him as a person. If United were interested at some point I'd say that's natural. He's coming up to 27/28 so you would hope he's maturing but maybe not. It was just a bad move by him to go PSG and hopefully he's realized that. All it takes is the right club. We've seen similar shite from Pogba, but from his POV I can understand it because of the owners and what we've been doing on the pitch. He has no one but himself to blame and he must know that.

I put Neymar's evaluation at ~200 mill. Say Sanchez is worth 40 mil.

Imagine this: you could get Neymar for the price of two Harry Maguires.

Despite his antics, he's still one of the best players in the world, that kind of player could change the team's fortunes over night.

A bad move? Serves him fecking right - it was all about money, for him in terms of salary, and don't forget his old man who pocketed zillions as his agent.

Seconded.

He's phenomenally talented but I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole.

Since his move to PSG he has apparently developed such a fondness for some of the distractions of Paris life that it is actively affecting his relationship with his team mates who feel that there's one set of rules for them and another for the loose cannon Neymar.

Added to that the complete lack of respect shown by refusing to return for pre-season and he's not somebody I would want anywhere near United, regardless of how much better he is than our current squad.

Barcelona have all of the power in this deal and I think their stance of 'this is how much we're offering in cash, and these are the players we're willing to trade- take it or deal with a stroppy primadonna all season' is perfect.

Having said that... I imagine pulling off this deal will be Woodward's wet dream, and he would fit in well with this overpaid, sponsor-obsessed culture we seem to have embraced since Ferguson retired.

supposedly been offered to us... can't make my mind up: disaster or becomes a genius upon signing for us like Cantona

Going away from PSG is his last to chance, to become more than just "the guy that really had much talent".

Can only see him moving back to Barca, he even said he wants his old house back in Spain.

If the move back doesn't happen this season he'll just concentrate on another CL run with PSG and see what happens at 28 next season.

No way can I see him coming to the PL, Manchester or playing in Europa. The stories just come about as we can potentially afford him. Lets be honest, the best of the best don't come here historically, Zidane, Ronaldinho, Brazil Ronaldo, Messi. The only way we can get such talents is by spotting them early like C Ronaldo.

Football had been a farce for the past decade regarding money and player power. Most top level footballers are divas. Get used to it

I'd love it if we signed neymar. It'd be entertaining imo.

And you're entitled to your opinion but don't then deny you are taking the moral highground because you don't not want the player you don't want what you deem to be the person.

Bollocks sorry. I don't want the player or the person myself. I can't get behind someone who produces his antics on the pitch.

Unless you are saying you don't want him because he is not a good enough footballer then you are taking the moral highground, which is perfectly fine.

Everyone has differing levels of where they'd draw the line. I'm not turning down a top 5 player in the world because of on-pitch (or off pitch non legal matters) antics.

You wouldn't have wanted Maradona playing for your team either then? And if you were around at the time you'd have been disgusted at George Best playing for United? Come on...

No you cannot compare Neymar to Maradona or George Best. I cannot stand watching him. I would love to have seen Maradona in a United shirt. Different things.

I also think Maradona and Neymar were far far better footballers as well. Neymar is skilled but I cannot take to him at all.

I just skimmed your conversation, but even I understand that you’re way off the mark. None of those players had cheating ingrained in their playig style. To include Best in this conversation is nothing short of criminal.

Actually, thinking about it, I might just report you for crimes against Manchester United’s history!

Sorry but now you're deluding yourself. If media and more aptly social media back in the day were equal to what it is today you would have had a worse perception of Maradona and Best than you do Neymar.

Sorry no you are wrong. I am old enough to remember watching Maradona extensively. He was a knob but a million times more mesmerizing than Neymar. Neymar doesn't have the walk to talk the talk in comparison.

Best is the purest footballer there has arguably ever been in terms of balance between talent, sportsmanship, love of the game and fairness. With him it's the off field stuff. Some say they wouldn't have Neymar because of off field stuff then they are either getting caught up in media overdrive of today or looking back (or ignoring totally) with rose tinted glasses some greats of the past.

Obviously Maradona had both on and off field issues.

Make Maradona and Best 27 today and i'd have both in an instant, as i would Neymar.

Neymar's off field stuff doesn't bother or interest me at all. You need to accept other people might not agree with you on a football forum.

When Pato came to Milan, Ronaldo ask him, to chose a lifestyle: The Playboy-Lifestyle like Ronaldo or the Kaka-Lifestyle. Neymar has also made his descision long time ago.

I do accept but you're not making sense. so you don't want him because you deem him to be a "cheat" of a player? But you stated you would have loved to see Maradona in a United shirt? So you're fine with some cheats but not with others?

Bloody hell you are the one not making any sense. I don't like his style of play, I think he is vastly over rated. He doesn't produce enough to get away with his antics in the majority of games I have watched him "live".

None of those things apply to Maradona.

No probably not. Because while you have a point - a lot of why people hate on Neymar is not necessarily down to his ego or eccentricities alone - but down to him acting like a whiny little bitch and something of a sleaze - in an era even where footballers have it so easy both on and off the pitch compared to what was the case back then.

And you can say a lot of negatives about for instance Maradona too - but one thing you cannot call him is a whiny little bitch and a sleaze this despite the fact that his personal life was tragic and he also set some kind of world record in having his feet battered. I see your point - there's a double standard there for sure - but people can actually forgive a lot of negatives as long as the person responsible goes about them in a dignified ("manly") fashion and also owns up to his or hers faults. As long as they're not 100% plastic fantastic.

Also Maradona and Best were way better seen in comparison to their era than Neymar is in comparison to ours. Talents like that are mass-produced these days - you can always get someone younger and less annoying with similar skills.

Im surprised Barca are even considering bringing him back after the absolute sh*tstorm he caused after he left, taking them to court over the whole thing about bonuses etc.

Funny enough its looking like it might be a rinse repeat situation with PSG.

He really just comes across as a massive bell-end in general as a person

You're kidding, right? Best and Maradona would have been slaughtered, broken, if they lived the lives they did then in today's environment. All moot, of course. Their behaviour would have had to be modified for survival.

Not my point. They were slaughtered back then too - it did not end well for them and there were a lot of controversies surrounding both. By the time Maradona left the World Cup he was disgraced and very few - if any - jumped to his defense. But over time - the public opinion of them was more forgiving - they're still both treated as legends today and I doubt that will be the case with certain stars of this generation - Neymar included.

For the reasons I mentioned - they may have had their less-than-flattering whims but these were mostly oriented off the pitch - they were self-destructive not just pitiful - and at least they were more genuine by owning up to who they were and not acting all pathetic treating everyone as idiots.

Agree with this.

Just watched the Maradona docu on cinema, and for all his antics and idiotic decisions he never was a total shitweasel like Neymar. Even when he wished to leave Napoli (twice?) and was denied a transfer he kept on going. It's also refreshing to look back at a time when players stayed on their feet even when they were hacked to pieces by five players in a row.

These days football is getting ruined by players like Neymar, agents and corruption of all sorts leaking into every creak of the game.

This is a very good post. Also, I’d like to add that Best was very much a man of the people. Many have written and spoken about how he was too nice (in his personal life, a shy and careful guy by all accounts before alchohol took over) and thus was prone to being taken advantage of by ‘friends’. I’d like to see anyone say that about Neymar, excluding his sister of course!

Didn't Maradona score a world cup goal with his hand? Sniffed cocaine, fought opponents

I will take Neymar anyway in my club, We had Robben and Ribery for about a decade who had poor attitudes, sex scandals even with minors everytime Ribery was on the field, it was like he could explode anytime while Robben was a serial diver. Suarez chews other players, half of Barcelona starting lineup are divers and cheats, Ronaldo when he first got to Man Utd was a notorious diver, Ronaldinho was a party animal
Football has dealt with players who were jackasses off the field. And we are acting like football is a game for saints and righteous people. Neymar is not the worst I have seen, not even close to it
As long as he gets on the field and delivers

Ingrained means it’s a natural part, an essential part even, of their game. So the rest is just hot air mate. None of those would start fights with their team mates over a penalty, for instance.

I maintain my position, comparing Best and Maradona to Neymar is a travesty, and it hurts my brain. You can keep your disgusting child molester. The day those things stop mattering to me, is the day I stop watching football.

Can anyone think of Ribery Busquets Suarez, Alba or Robben and not think diving and winding up opponents isn't a part of their game?

Robben and Ribery actually came to blows freekicks and penalties, They both dive. Ribery even had off-field issues all through his career. Football and my club accepted them and became heroes. Acting like Neymar is the worst there has ever been is the false outrage

Franck Ribery and former Chelsea winger Arjen Robben had to be dragged apart by shocked team-mates after a furious dressing room bust-up midway through Bayern Munich’s Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.

A row that started on the pitch shortly before half-time escalated after the players reached the dressing room, as the pair traded insults and angrily squared up to each other.

According to sources in Munich, Ribery aimed a punch at Robben and caught him under the eye, before team-mates stepped in and pulled them apart.

The flashpoint is believed to have stemmed from a heated argument over who should take a free-kick towards the end of the first half
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...rjen-Robben-pulled-apart-half-time-scrap.html
I wont reject a younger Robben or Ribery at my club because of these issues and both at their best are not even as talented as Neymar
