That of course depends if they are capable of stabilising or simply being helpless to do anything as standards continue to disappear.
That is also very true ... be an interesting few months.

Solid appointment. Should finally get the fans on Mike Ashley's side.

Absolutely. To be fair to Ashley he has appointed the only Premier League manager to have written mystery novels, so it's not all bad.

I might be tempted one day when I have not got a lot on to read one. Have you had the pleasure of doing so? If so which one did you attempt?

I see the dislike for Utd legends goes beyond the Class of 92 on here. This forum attracts some of the weirdest Utd fans. Bruce has actually done as good a job as could be expected at just about every club he’s managed. Look at where Sunderland and Wigan have gone in comparison to what he did at those clubs, he managed to get an awful Hull side promoted as well. He’s a solid enough mid table manager. Newcastle are no more than that currently.

No one was having a pop when he was at Wednesday, another big club who I'd like to have seem him get promoted. But the context of this appointment is piss poor. Cheapskate owner of very big club with large and psychologically frail fanbase makes an inexpensive call knowing that Bruce is emotional about Newcastle and -given they are haemoraging their best players from an already bang average squad- appoints him with half an eye on relegation. It won't be fun watching him squirm on that touchline.

They will be fine, they still have Schär scoring screamers for fun to avoid relegation.:):wenger:

Then the focus should be on that. Not Steve Bruce Who is being portrayed as a much worse manager than he is.

But he is probably a much worse manager than Benitez. And if he's got miracle working tools in his locker they are yet to be seen.

He is but who else was queueing up for the job? A lot of it is based on him being an English manager and they’re all lumped together as if they’re exactly the same.

  • Among the 33 managers to have managed 200 or more Premier League games, Bruce's win percentage of 28.1% (110 games in 392 games) is the second-lowest, ahead only of his former Manchester United team-mate Bryan Robson (26.8%).
He will be gone by December, and Newcastle will be gone by the end of April.
How did two of Fergies captains end up so shite at management?

Think Bruce has got one of if not the best record of all time getting teams out the championship and in to the prem. he’s a good manager he just always tends to be with championship/lower prem teams.

they will be relegated. there is no discipline, no formation, no tactics, no nothing. the way that wolves were running right tough them like a hot knife though butter. they will struggle to win 1 game.

rafa had them defensive minded but organized. that organization looks to be gone now. hull is better than this team, rafa left due to lack of transfer support

if he tries to play free flowing attacking football... heavy defeat almost every week.

Hes a Championship manager who was never going to manage in the Prem again which is exactly what they were looking for, a yes man whos happy to be there and will take whatever hes given like Pardew Mcclaren and Roeder before him. Barring an untenably disastrous run of results he'll be there as long as he wants as long as he does as hes told. A club interested in competing would've backed the best manager they'll ever realistically have.

Playing youngsters is no excuse. He's managing a relegation team. He's managing the worst in the pl by a mile.

Attacks just as woeful... no collective togetherness. That's not really the managers fault. if you don't have a wee but of unity it doesn't matter what kind of team you've got you won't win a game.

What amuses me about all the comments is that he is no worse than the former legend who is currently in charge of us. Shows how far we have fallen. At least Bruce is probably of a right level for Newcastle.

I actually think Bruce can do a decent job at Newcastle, much as he has elsewhere. He's not the tactical genius that Rafa apparently is (was?) but he tends to make his teams hard to beat through organization and simple play. I think the fan reaction at the start might actually help, he can only go up in people's estimation from here. I wish him and the fans the best.

Classic managerial merry go round job.

Bruce is one of those decent championship level managers who every so often gets a punt at a Premier job - will do an average to poor job, and be sacked within 18months maximum.

He's finished as a manager... Ask Wednesday and Villa fans. That play of game the season before tactical wise was a joke. I know which games i wont be watching next season.

Ok manager at a club that's the right level for him. Unfortunately, he is not Rafa and the Newcastle fans are out for blood.

I can this going down hill quickly.

With all due respect, signing Bruce is not a leap forward, it's another hint at "avoiding relegation is our current bread and butter".

Bruce will build a team specifically designed to get +3 points against the lower 13-20 teams.

Could be a blessing in disguise for Sheffield Wednesday.

Chris Hughton is still available and would be a good fit for them I'd have thought.
I’ve got nothing against Bruce and wish him well. I read an article about what a hard time Bruce is expected to have this season and recounting his managerial history, and it got me thinking “What about Chris Hughton for Sheffield United?”

Honestly, I looked at Hughton’s wiki again I’m not sure there is any manager who’s been sacked under more questionable, and frankly at times, unfair decisions. Didn’t deserve to get the sack at Newcastle, did a great job at Norwich before the waters got a bit choppy, and brought up and kept up Brighton which was is an accomplishment as well. Unfortunately he’ll probably never get a chance to take over a decent mid table side, but I’ve always thought he deserves a shot.

First signing looks like it will be Andy Carroll by looks of it.

Can see them starting season with strikerforce of him and Sturridge.

A few years ago that would look immense, but getting sicknote 1 & 2 on the pitch would be an achievement.

Why do these *professional* people not learn, he’s a relic of a manager. Asking his staff “shall we feck off now” during his first friendly match... what a dickhead.

He’s in a no win situation with some of the Toon fans who won’t forgive him for managing the enemy down the road but I think they’ve got someone who will give their all to get it right. Whether he has the talent to get the team winning remains to be seen. Good luck to him.
