No they're not forced to sell, but they will never get offer like it again and could easily reinvest that in Italy. Not only that, he may very well want to move on - he's only on 3.5m a year. He's also been there for 5 seasons, to get over 10x that 5 years later is great business.
They won't replace him with a better defender and they'll prefer to be around the top 2 or 3 than selling him for 60-70m which is pretty low in the current market. As I said even Leicester don't want to sell Harry Maguire for such price and they have less ambitions than Napoli, so not sure why they'll care to sell him unless a +100m offer arrives.

Leicester are richer than Napoli for a start and if Maguire was the same age as Koulibaly, you can bet your arse Leicester would be biting your hand off for 70m quid.

Except Napoli have bigger ambitions than Leicester. Leicester will be fine sticking around in top 10 while Napoli will always want to be in top 2 or 3 in the league, so of course they aren't going to sell one of the best defenders in the league for 60-70m. They'll be fine with him staying if a big offer doesn't come.

70m quid is big offer man, ha ha! They'll sell for less than 100 if an offer comes in, I'm sure of that due to his age, because they aren't idiots.

You're entitled to think otherwise.

Yeah we can always agree to disagree, but I think Napoli will be fine with Koulibaly staying if the right offer doesn't come to them.

This is encouraging to me ... someone in Italy decided to cook up the man city story, tells me they want a bid in that 95m euro range from United. Obviously stories that we had 110m gbp turned down are nonsense.

When all this started, I thought the asking price for K was crazy - but given what is being touted as Maguire's cost, it might be a "bargain":nono:

“I don't know [if I'll still be at Napoli], I think so," the defender began, following his side's 2-0 victory over Tanzania in their Africa Cup of Nations opener on Sunday, "but I have to play the Afcon and then after that I'll go back to Napoli."

“Everyone's speaking about me, but I'm only speaking about Senegal, because that's my objective today and I want to achieve something big with Senegal."

“I don't want to talk about my future today, I prefer to talk about Senegal," the former Genk stopper continued. "Senegal achieved something great today. I am 200% with Senegal and 200% with the 15 million Senegalese people."

“I'm relaxed, I want to focus on the Afcon and after that return to Napoli and we'll see what happens."

"The most important thing now is to win with Senegal.”

Would be great if City bought Maguire for 80m on 280K wages and we'd pick up Koulibaly. It will probably be the other way around though :/

He could earn his last big contract this summer I don't get how will Napoli manage to keep him and raise the price if he wants out. When he is 29 his chance will be pretty much gone.

I guess you as a player can complain about rampant racism in the stands... Watch others walk off the pitch. Then when an offer comes in from one of the least racist leagues in Europe comes in just ignore it.

He shouldn't be making career decisions based off racism. Moving away because he wants to escape racist abuse only benefits the racists and their moronic point of view.

Any chance of us looking at this guy? I feel £100m on him would be a better investment than £80m on Maguire. Maybe any deal is being held up until after the AFCON? Would be a dream partner for Lindelof and would allow him to play on the right side of the two, which is his more natural position.

Give 'em Lukaku in a straight exchange (won't happen I know but it would be funny seeing Lukaku backtrack on the whole 'Conte is the greatest manager ever' thing)

Napoli value him twice as much as Lukaku's value, so thats never happening.

In this market and the whole mess I reckon they will value him at 120m. What you can get him for is another thing.

Lukaku + Bailly + 50m for Koulibaly + Milik would be an awesome deal for both parties imo.

€150m release clause and they won't sell for less. Plus at least £220k a week in wages(he's not taking a pay cut)

Maguire would be FAR cheaper

But Koulibaly is much better than Maguire, he is definitely world class.

Koulibaly is overpriced but you are getting one of the top defenders in the world and Maguire has a long way to go before he is at that level.

Koulibaly is the best we could buy but we are too cheap to do so.

I really can't see Napoli rejecting a World record offer for a defender. They'll play hardball and we'll pay over the odds, but that happens with every player we sign because of who and how rich we are. The biggest hurdle would be the player actually wanting to come here and play in the Europa league.

Napoli's president is on record as saying they previously rejected a world record bid from us.

"Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95million," De Laurentiis said.

He would cost much closer to 150m than 100m.

He is three times the player though.

Not good enough in the air to partner Lindelof for me, he needs a Maguire type next to him.

Not that Maguire is my first choice mind you, and I do agree Koulibaly looks class from the little I've seen, but I think Lindelof / Maguire would be far more functional than Lindelof / Koulibaly.

Hope we go for Tah or Milenkovic personally, if Maguire continues to stall.

Oh, so it must be true then? I wonder why their chairman would want to inflate the value of a player he owns?

I understand that concern but I am hoping we'll play a higher line and press the opposition relentlessly. In that scenario we would need pace over aerial ability - Playing Maguire and Lindelof with a high line would be suicide. If we ever needed extra aerial ability we can always use Smalling when necessary. He'd also suit a high line too, for what it's worth.

Yeah that's a fair point, I could see that working well. How quick is he would you say? Can't say I've ever really noticed.

Even if it's not true, he isn't going to accept less than that now that he's openly said they've already refused that amount.

I think I mentioned £100m somewhere. That's more than the £95m they've apparently rejected previously. But either way, I can't see them rejecting an offer over that and I honestly don't think it'd be closer to £150m. I'd even go up to £120m and still say it's better value than the Maguire deal. But every transfer is a gamble I suppose.

There are youtube videos of Salah and Mbappe trying to run him and not succeeding, in part due to his excellent timing in the tackle and lunging style - he's quite similar to Wan Bissaka in this regard. He's not lightning quick by any means, Smalling and Bailly are quicker, but he's probably the most rounded defender in the World, Ramos and Van Dijk apart.

Doubt that's true. We brief the media on everything we do these days. How was that not mentioned?

I am probably the only one but I don’t think this guy is that good. I don’t understand how the words “World Class” can be banded about about him.

It’s probably just me though. Just not been remotely impressed.

As I said above, even if it's not true (which may well be the case as there's nothing stopping him from lying) he isn't going to then accept a lower bid than the one he's publicly refused.

There's a big difference between saying "we want X" before accepting Y and saying "we've already turned down X from this exact club" before accepting Y.

He would be the worst partner for Lindeloff
