""How on earth is expecting your £350,000 a week goalkeeper to be able to pass/throw the ball to a team-mate a load of mumbo jumbo?""

Not entirely sure how this is supposed to be interpreted as logic, you're insinuating that a player is unable to pass/throw the ball to team mates. Hyperbole.

Calling it terrible is a bit of a stretch, the comparisons are also ott. Bailly, Lindeløf and Chris Smallings stats for passes completed combined doesn't even match Van Dijks or Laportes' passing alone. Smalling, Lindelof, Shaw and Young managed 3567 passes over the course of the season. Andrew Robertson, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Matip managed 5406...

Per game we're talking 208 vs 304,5. Paints a decent enough portrait.

The way we set up are entirely different, and it's hardly much of a surprise that Ederson and Alisson have 46,7 and 62,7% more passes, nor that 51% of De Gea's passes are long balls, while Ederson and Alisson are at 14,5% and 21,3%

People are taking things a bit too far. De Gea's passing isn't the root to our defensive issues. It's easy to play around his weaknesses, while it's a bit more complicated (impossible, imho) to ignore defenders that aren't comfortable with the ball at their feet.

Removing Ashley Young from the starting lineup, getting a cb that's comfortable with the ball and intelligent in his positioning and play (pretty much the exact opposite of the disaster that is Smalling and Jones) will go a long way in improving things
I know I didn't say nor imply that. He's terrible at kicking, I never considered stats when I made that observation. There are certain things that are very easy to spot on the eye and DDG being bad at kicking the ball is one of them. Same thing happens for Spain when he clears it too and they're designed to keep possession of the ball.

What's up with big Dave? Is he not going to play until his contract situation is resolved?
I was wondering the same thing. I thought today we would see De Gea and Grant share time between the posts but it was Romero (who made a great save) and Peirera again...

Then I suggest you read it again.
I'm simply pointing out to a fellow poster that calling distribution a load of mumbo-jumbo (as if it was some sort of myth attribute) is pretty absurd.

Either he turns his 18 month slump of shit form around and this is great news or we've Sanchezd ourselves again. Time will tell.

Hope his dropsies was temporary or we're in for a bad season when he starts chucking them in again. Especially as no-one's taking on those wages for a goalie with chocolate wrists.

So OGS has got DDG, Rashford, McTominay to sign new contracts - signed AWB, Dan James, more or less moved Gomes, Rashford og Chong into the first team Squad, brought back optimism by playing youngsters, and playing attacking football.

Yeah it was a mistake to hire him

Obviously very happy DDG is staying but unless his form picks up and he radically improves and returns his form from 2-3 years ago and we want to replace him in 1-2 seasons, we'll be paying him that entire 120m no matter what. You can not sell players on this kind of salary and we already have Sanchez, Rojo, Darmian et al eating up 600kpw...

Hopefully he can kick on and do even better than before though.

Indeed.

Allegedly no one would want to play for OGS, who will be out of a job before Christmas... liking the shift to a younger more dynamic team.

Really good news that DDG is going to resign. Could be the next captain?

On the one hand, pay De Gea more money than Phillip Green has paid in settlements for being a sex case, but on the other....Jordan Pickford. So....

Feck me our wages must be ballooning right?

Dave deserves it though, one shaky season doesn't erase the previous 5 or so of being solid.

Leaves a bit of a bad taste, the guy has wanted out virtually since he became a top keeper, it's just circumstance, and lack of offers have stopped it happening.

Great news about signing a new club contract, I’m not sure about the 6 years though considering we have Henderson coming through.

I'm just happy we've got this sorted. Now hopefully we won't hear speculation on him leaving every summer.

Give it a rest he was available on a free next season and he would have had a pick of clubs. Never asked for a transfer request. Even when the fax machine broke did he sulk? Delighted he’s signed.
