Do you not think doubling our capacity, and probably more than doubling our total match day revenue isn't an investment in the long term?
Of course it is.
It was an essential thing for Spurs to do, as it was for Arsenal once upon a time. It will mean that the club can keep up with the other top-6 longterm. It was the complete right decision; and the stadium seems great. I hope to visit it next season when you play us.
Its also essential for the price when Levy probably sells the club in a couple of years of course.
That was not what I reacted to, it was Glastons implied fact that Levy "invested" 1bn of his own cash into the project, which is just bollocks. The financing comes from admirably keeping your costs down over the last couple of years plus a gigantic debt facility for a club of your size and turnover; which you - like Arsenal - will be paying for a long time.
Thats like saying that the Glazers invested 1bn in United when they took over the club. You basically financed the stadium with the clubs own money. Which is fine by me btw.
Its still the complete right decision long term and again: the place looks great.

You mean he did this by putting your club in 600m of net debt? In what parallell universe is that considered an 1bn investment?
Almost all big investments are part-funded by borrowings, because very few businesses have large sums of money (far less £1 billion) just sitting spare in their bank account. But it's still an investment of all the money involved.

If you want to say more then please take it to the Spurs stadium thread.

Good signing if true, he will be a good get for spurs meanwhile we will spend far more on someone like Fernandes who will flop.

Bizarre view .. I like what I've seen of Lo Celso but I'd be more excited if we were getting Fernandes.

Portuguese league or not, 20 goals 13 assists from midfield is insane.

If he does move to Spurs they’ve brought in some quality options.

Does then make you wonder what will happen with Eriksen.
It's hard to know for sure, but my guess is that Eriksen stays and signs a new contract.

Son (Moura) ---- Eriksen (Lo Celso) ------ Alli (Lamela)

That'd be a pretty good set of options for the three behind Kane and would provide a quality squad-depth in this area.

We need someone like him to help drive up our goal scoring record from midfielders. More assists will also help. But Lo Celso is a very good player too.

I reckon Eriksen will probably not sign a contract and you'll just phase Lo Celso in.

I would love us in a 4-3-3

Son (Moura)------ Kane-------- Alli (Lamela)

------------------- Eriksen (Parrot) ----------

----------- Lo Celso (Winks)------------------

---------------------Ndombele (Dier) --------

Of course with the midfielders we have they can all play in different positions, Sissoko and Skipp can cover both CM and CDM.

Congratulations on your new "feeder club" role :D.
Sometimes you have to take one step backward to take two steps forward.
I find that hard to believe. Lo Celso was amazing for Betis last season while Ceballos barely played for Real.
Or if you see it from my pov. Celso was released by PSG, while Real Madrid still want to hold on to Ceballos.

I ask because even when clubs are "taking it out of their own pockets" they really aren't. Take Chelsea for example: Abramovic has loaned the club 1.5 billion. The important thing to note is that yes he loaned it to them, he didn't gift it to them. The club still owes him that money - He's simply made it a 0% interest loan.

I'm not ready to predict a flop from Bruno, but I agree with the theme here.

I know that it is unrealistic to sign ten players every window to appease transfer-muppets like me, but I am constantly let down by our recruitment. Lo Celso looks like he would be a good replacement for Herrera. Not a world-beater by any stretch, but I think he would start for our midfield with no problems. He might not have the goal threat that Bruno has, but I think he is more of an all arounder and definitely offers more defensively.

And I am beating a dead horse here, but letting Arsenal get Ceballos is insane. It makes me depressed thinking about it. He is so ridiculously talented and to let him go to a (hopefully) direct rival for 4th is just so weird to me. Arsenal will be instantly improved by him and I think he will go a long way in replacing Ramsey's output.

Oh well I guess. Here's hoping Lingard and Mata can find an extra two yards of pace from somewhere, and that Paul decides to dominate for an entire season.

Yes, but it's only a loan, with no option to buy. I think Spurs didn't pursue it for that reason.

Well there was a reason for that. You can't say Ceballos was better than Lo Celso when he was one of betis's best players.

Exactly what happened.
But the original poster, who shall not be named, clearly implied or even outright stated that Levy invested those 1bn himself.
I just pointed out that the investment was financed by the clubs own money and a very, very big debt facility.
As I have stated earlier in this thread it was the right thing to do, no need to misrepresent things when its not even needed.

True which lessens the blow a bit.

But Spurs really aren't in danger of finishing outside of the top 4 this year, and thats a luxury we don't have. I'm not saying its definitely going to happen, but Ceballos could be a huge role in keeping us out of the Champions League for another year.

I did no such thing. I said "Levy's 'scrimping' has involved investing around £1 billion in our new stadium and new training centre".

Obviously this doesn't mean that the £1billion has come from Levy's own personal bank account. It means that Levy, as club chair, has authorised the investment to be made from the club's resources. Those resources include borrowed money, money that has to be repaid … but once borrowed it becomes the club's money to use.

Your tangled wriggling all stems from your original and ridiculous claim that, because some of it has been borrowed, £1billion has not been invested.

A local journalist in Seville - https://twitter.com/Matglez - is reporting that "Lo Celso is flying from Seville to London. Tomorrow will have his Tottenham medical before signing his new contract with Spurs."

I did think that, after Ndombele, this was the next signing that Pochettino really wanted - it looks like he's getting his wish fulfilled.

Good fee, great signing. Was also expected, Poch got his man. I expect him to blossom, he may hit a bit of a ropey start, but with time, he will develop nicely and become one of the best midfielders in the league. That is my expectation and guess

Do you think Spurs would improve if you replace Eriksen for Lo Celso? Is Lo Celso better than Eriksen? I always taught that for you to go to the next level, you would need to either keep Eriksen and get lo Celso or get lo Celso and someone like Bruno or Coutinho. I feel that Eriksen might stay but if he doesn’t, Spurs attack in my own opinion just got weaker.

I've hardly seen Lo Celso in action, so I don't know but I'd doubt it. Eriksen is class, assuming that he's motivated to perform.

Poch gets his wish. Can probably close this thread now. Will take a year to settle much like Ndombele id imagine.

The way he shields the ball when pressed is bloody brilliant. Spurs really have made a great signing. You can really go toe to toe with City now.

From what I have seen yeah he can play deep and more advanced also.
I wonder if, for certain games, we'll see a CM duo of Ndombele and Lo Celso (playing behind the attacking 3 that supports Kane) - i.e. with no out-and-out DM like Dier.

I think it could be Winks at the base - Lo Celso and Ndombele ahead of him and one of Dele/Lamela/Eriksen??? ahead of them behind Kane - Poch appears to want us to play a diamond. Looks great on paper but time will tell how it actually works.

What is great at these signings give us more tactical flexibility and strength in the middle of the park which has been badly missing for a while.
