Instead of comparing the two. This thread should be permanently closed. We should enjoy them and understand we won’t come across players like this for a long time. Enjoy watching both play for heavens sake. They are both in a league of their own.
You are right, I don’t think there’s one without the other, they both pushed themselves competing against each other.

Although one is clearly the better player, one day even Ronaldo’s hardcore fans will admit. ;)

Haha I see what you did there. I love Ronaldo and he will always be my hero for what he helped us achieve when he was at United. Much like any Barca fan would go for Messi. There has been seasons where Messi has been better and there has been seasons where Ronaldo has been better. Both very equal in terms of their respective rivalry with each other and that’s why I feel you can’t compare the two.

That's debatable, his 08 season matches upto any season at Madrid imo.
2013 year in RM was one of the greatest individual seasons of all time. Better than any season he had in Manchester in my opinion.

No chance Romario is better than Pele. No Brazilians i ever met rated Friedenreich as a GOAT. Even in the pre-war era Leonidas was considered to be better than Friedenreich.
Leônidas? Maybe he is better he certainly put in one of the greatest WC performances in 1938.

Romario carried brazil to the world cup in 1994 something pele has never done.

Tevez isn't particularly smart, but you don't need to be a genius to figure out saying anything other than "I get on really well with Messi" isn't going to help your case.

Early Ronaldo at Madrid is his peak I think. It eclipses his United 07/08 a bit.
I thought 11-13 is the best version of him, absolutely unstoppable, playing like a beast, driving his team forward, perfect in the sense of everything - pace, skills, athleticism, goals, drive, determination.

While I appreciate everything Ronaldo has done for Man Utd, Messi is just better. Often times, a simple eye test is enough. There are only very few guys like Messi across sports, think Federer in tennis, Stephen curry in Basketball. They make everything look just so effortless. Hypothetically, if there was ever a chance of Utd signing Messi or Ronaldo, I would sign Messi any day of the week. I have never seen a player so complete attacking wise. He is just different gravy.

something he has never done? is this suppose to be a joke? a 17 yrs old Pele carried Brazil in 1958 WC.
Pele didn't carry shit. He played 2 games the semis and the final. Romario almost single handedly won Brazil the 1994 WC.

Err... I hope you are not serious here. Key player in winning Brazil WC yes, but singlehandedly won it is way too exaggerated. His partnership with Bebeto is key factor though. Personally I thought Baggio had a better individual tournament.

It was actually Brazil's defence that was the biggest factor in their win, they took on a more pragmatic approach which is why that 94 team isn't as loved by Brazilians as the others which played attacking football.

Eh? I couldn't care less about this stupid debate, just pop in every now and then and call a spade a spade.

Saying Messi doesn't interfere with team selection (Sampaoli openly admitted he chose who he played with because he was in awe of him) is as warped as making Cristiano out to be Tony Robbins.

Bollocking about fluently.
I can't choose between them. They're different and probably the two best players I've seen in my lifetime. Messi is bigger on the artistic side - he's a natural magician and has a superior understanding of the game - Cristiano is below Messi in those areas but he too has more of that than anyone else among their contemporaries - and also I feel he tops Messi in terms of athleticism and devotion (seriously he's physical perfection more or less and whenever he comes short in some area he will practice that part of his play until it's perfected plus he never allows himself to be overshadowed by anyone or anything on the pitch). If I were to choose a favorite in terms of me getting me all excited from watching them play - it'd be Messi because what he produces is breathtakingly beautiful and genius - but if I had to splash the cash on one of them I'd go for Cristiano as he's proven his capabilities across leagues and teams and you just know he'll always produce his best even if he's not completely settled in his role.

Similar to what SAF said, if you were managing a championship side who would you pick as your one winner to build the team around.

A great player is a bigger player who can reach those heights when everything goes against them. Ronaldo cleans the floor with Messi in that regard. Being the better dribbler, the better playmaker does not make you the greater player imo.

What we can get from that is that stupid people live everywhere. It must be a new kind of stupid to chant for a person or a club that has nothing to do with the game that is happening.

But well, the other similar people will find it funny.

Juventus were playing Team Korea today, it wasn’t at a random game

They spent all game chanting Ronaldo's game for him to come on.

He played 90 minutes vs Inter 2 days ago so he didn't play today and the fans were upset they wasted their money.

It was apparently because he was a no show to a scheduled fan meet and greet, and because he didn't play a single minute in the friendly when Juve were contractually obligated to play him, which understandably drew the ire of fans. The Korean fans know they got screwed over, especially since they sold out a 60,000+ seat stadium within a couple of hours for a friendly, even though the tickets ranged from ~$100-$400 per seat (or so I've read), and obviously a big reason for that was to see Cristiano.

I think the tour organizers are partly to blame for this, and I can understand Cristiano deciding not to play even if he had a contractual obligation (since you don't want to over exert yourself in preseason and potentially get injured), but it probably wouldn't have hurt if he displayed a little fan service if he wasn't going to play. It's an overall bad look, and he probably lost a lot of fans there, not that'd he care I suppose. Just typical of modern day football though, it's all about the money and milking fans for all their worth.

Was at the game last night and thought I would add some context. The organizers promised fans that he would play a minimum of 45 minutes as a contract was signed by Juventus and the K-league.

However, due to a plane delay they arrived at like 330pm when the game was at 8pm and the Korean international airport was like 2 hours from their hotel in the heart of Seoul.

This delay caused them to be two hours late to a fan signing session which Ronaldo decided to skip out on which initially angered Korean fans. They were then an hour late to the game itself and he ended up not even warming up when pretty much every fan in the stadium was there to see him not Juventus.

Was pretty amusing to see the whole crowd turn on him after about the 60th minute when it became clear he wasn't even warming up. Personally don't really blame him.. seems like terrible management from Juventus to plan to just arrive to a different country on the day of a friendly and then plan all these extra activities. Also poor from the organisers to not atleast announce to fans that he wouldn't be playing but I guess that might've started a riot in of itself. Many fans traveled from the countryside and brought their kids and booked hotels so you can see their pov too.

It's not Ronaldo that had a contractual obligation, it was Juve. They'll pay a fine for not playing him 45 minutes.

Why they signed a contract saying he'd play at least 45 minutes when Ronaldo played 90 minutes against Inter 2 days ago is beyond me. It was their 3rd game in 5 games, they did the right thing by not playing him but should have made it clear to the fans before the match that it would happen.

Yea, I know, which is why I'd blame the tour organizers for promising he'd play. All they saw was dollar signs. However, Cristiano not showing up to the fan event is a bad look when other stars apparently showed up. Either way, Ronaldo will receive the brunt of the criticism there.

Don’t think it’s him that decides if he goes to a fan event or not but yeah, the whole thing was terribly handled and the korean fans have every right to be pissed.

They bought a ticket to Juventus vs Korean all stars or a ticket to Ronaldo vs Korean All Stars?

Ronaldo is the biggest star on his team so you can say the majority of the people went there to see him. Not his fault he didn't play though as Juventus used him for 90 minutes 2 days ago.
