'Foden is most talented player I've ever seen' means Pep was legally blind when he was managing Messi and playing Barca against Ronaldo, yet none of us noticed. And by Messi I mean that guy who was already the star of Barcelona's senior team when he was younger (!) than Foden, but who's counting, right? Same for Ronaldo, Christiano was 18 when he starred for United, but 19 year old Foden is just a "baby" and needs to be "nurtured' because ... ok, I give up.

Foden certainly has the potential to be the best English midfielder of this generation. It depends solely on his playing time and development to avoid injuries etc.

He's the best player Guardiola's ever seen but Guardiola says "His only problem is sometimes his manager doesn't put him in the starting XI. Hopefully in the future that can improve."

Now does that make sense to anyone?

A great man manager lying through his teeth shocker.

Just think how much confidence this quote will give Foden coming into next season, add to that he's a stockport lad so he is a fan favourite as well. Guardiola knows what he is doing and I admire him for it.

Us united fans should cotton on to it straight away because it's what our greatest manager ever used to do.

Remember fergie saying Phil Jones could become our greatest ever player, remember fergie making himself look deluded to defend Nani after a terrible performance, remember Fergie protecting his players like a good manager should.

There's protecting your player and there's saying he is more talented than Messi (while hardly ever picking him).

You don't honestly believe Foden believes that crap do you?? It's one thing getting loads of plaudits and credit for being a great talent but to be called the GOAT and not even nailing a starting place in the team is ridiculous. If I was Foden, I would be banging on the manager's door for a guaranteed starting berth and an Mbappe-level contract. It's a ridiculous statement.

His manager said he is the most talented player he has ever seen. If a 19 year old doesn't feel great after hearing that from his manager then it's strange, if your said players manager is Pep Guardiola then it's different.

Foden will be over the moon. Guardiola has pleased everyone and if it spurs a stockport lad on to make the first team then Guardiola has done wonders.

West Ham player in 5 years time.
Only if he gets injured. Otherwise he’s destined for the very top IMO at City or otherwise. One of the finest youth talents in world football.

Wow, ok then. Seems like people can be duped after all. Why would he be over the moon when he must know it's obviously bullshit. If anything, it would make him take whatever Guardiola says with a pinch of salt in future. Why should it spur Foden on to make the first team anyway? He's already the best player in the world?

What do you make of the situation then because I can't work out your take on it?

I think Guardiola is doing what great man managers have done before him (overhype his own players). I think it has gone down very well with the city hierarchy because he's a product of their academy and he's a stockport lad, which is a big deal for city fans.

Foden is a 19 year old lad and to hear such praise from a manager who has managed the greatest player ever will be flattering, even if deep down he questions it. The fact that it's become a talking point shows that some people do believe it.

Angel Gomes is better than Foden. Not even up for debate .
That's just being biased and I'm one of the biggest Gomes fans there are. Gomes was neck and neck with Foden a few years ago, but Foden is ahead in development as of right now. Both are similar players, but I do think that Foden has been more assertive in recent times which has made him more effective. Haven't really had that criticism this summer though as Gomes has went at players and made himself dangerous.

I don't see he is anywhere near the talent of young Messi and Ronaldo

Stupid praise from Guardiola. It doesn't make much sense when you have managed Messi and puts Foden under additional pressure. If Foden starts scoring goals in the PL like the one vs France U21, the praise will look less ridiculous but how likely is that?

NOBODY for one minute believes that Foden is the GOAT. Everyone's talking about it because it was such a dumb thing to say. If your boss said to you that you was the most hardworking, productive and intelligent person s/he had ever worked with....but you was constantly being passed up for promotion, would you find their comments flattering? You'd probably actually be a bit confused, frustrated and even pissed at him/her.

How can you be flattered by something if deep down you're questioning whether it be true? That is my take on it.

No doubt Foden gets lots of praise from Guardiola and yeah that's bound to boost his confidence. But I'm specifically referring to that absurd statement that Guardiola made about him being the most talented player he's ever seen. You'd be pretty dumb to get gassed about a comment like that?

Unless you're telling me that Foden actually believes that he is better than Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappe etc.?

Maybe he mean the most talented English player he's ever seen.
Otherwise it doesn't make any sense at all.

Guardiola said he's the best he's ever seen as a player and a manager. He's never played in England.

Let's see how many minutes he gets this season. Massive competition in City midfield.

Saw City highlights from yesterday, even without the Copa America players they're ridiculously good.

City Perfect team for Foden to develop in if he's playing enough. If he eventually leaves will surely be to go to Spain / Italy where style suits his game much more.

Guardiola is a bellend.

I remember when Bravo played against us and screwed up, being a massive liability the whole game. Then he said he was the best player on the pitch in the interviews afterwards

I just think he says it here for him to be patient and tell him his time will come, even if he isnt a starter for now

I'm sure Pep has said similar statements regarding many players in the past. I recall him saying how Barca had lots of excellent young players in their academy, and we should not go over the top on players...

Foden is a good player. Yet to see how he develops....

Joe Cole... David Bentley... Jack Wiltshire... All v talented, but probably somewhat over rated.

Let's see how Foden gets on. V good young player though.

If he thinks Foden is the most natural talent he has seen then that is great for our National team even if the complement appears a little over the top considering the genius of Messi.

Having a natural talent is different to being a brilliant consistent footballer and I suppose time will tell whether that ability can translate to being able to perform week in week out to a very high level. He does not look out of place at Man City.

Personally I think he is going to be brilliant as there is already a real maturity to his game and I can see him reaching the heights of the last 2 English generational players - in my opinion - Gazza and Scholes.

One of Croatia defenders from the u21 Euros had high praise for him

Nikola Katic describe Foden as his toughest opponent:

“It was a really good experience for me because I played against top teams in England and France and the quality was really high. It was a good experience and a good lesson.

“The toughest player I faced was Phil Foden. He is an amazing player. For the strikers, it was Tammy Abraham or Moussa Dembele. They were strong.

“But Foden was the best. He is very calm on the ball, he can see everything behind me and behind him as well.”

Pep needs to play him. Enough talk and empty praise.
I do think Pep will go for a more defensive midfield this year. He seemed to shut down the midfield creativity during the run in last year and he could think this is the way to break his run in Europe as well.
Posters kept seeing KDB name on the sub bench explaining it away as not being the same after injury but he was still fantastic when he playeed, i only see this as a change of tactics from them.
Im going to predict this is KDB last season at City. lets see if Foden can take his spot.

One shouldn't take Guardiola literally. Does he really think Foden is more talented than Messi? Most lijely not. Does such a praise mean that he rates Phil Foden very highly? Definitely.

My favourite is that time at Bayern where Guardiola said he'd love to have a team of 1,000 Dantes.
But Dante is a super super player!

KDB has been in imperious form on the pre season tour. You really had to see his performance yesterday to believe it, he was that good.
If he can avoid serious injury this season (3 separate ones last time) I predict that he will be his best ever and will be going nowhere.
