This list is really ridiculous. Half of them did not won league.
No player in the list has won more than 2 trophies.
Each City player has won 4 trophies.
Not to mention that Bernardo Silva and Aguero played better than most of these players and won more trophies.

It looks like media hype is creating these shortlists.

Allison and Sterling should be on that list but Van Dijk deserves to win it overall.

If Pep would have beaten Pochettino in the champions league than I would imagine that Sterling, Aguero or perhaps Bernard Silva will be on the list. However, that didn’t happen and Pochettino defeated the champions league favorite Pep. As such, Kane was included in the list. Not much to complain about. Frankie De Jong and Kane is the only question mark I have on that list.

Messi should win it as long as he's around.

As for the list. As an Ajax fan i have to say it's a bit soon for De Jong and De Ligt.

So, best player can only be decided based on max 13 games in CL? Why would anyone bother playing rest of the year and other competitions?

How is that not much to complain about? Kane won literally nothing and was outscored by Aguero, who did actually win a few things. It's a complete joke.

As for Bernardo Silva, he was our best player last season. He won the Premier League, the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Nations League (in which he was voted Player of the Tournament).

I think B Silva, Sterling and Alisson should be there. No idea what Kane, De Ligt and De Jong are doing there. Aguero vs Salah / Mane is debatable too.

It's heavily based on performances in Europe. But then again why Kane? Son was more deserving. He almost single handedly beat City in the CL.

Only 1 or 2 at a push matter, of the 4 trophies won by City matter in Europe. The Carabao Cup is meaningless, the Community Shield is even less meaningful.

No real hype around City players so I'm not surprised, it's likely to be the the same for the Ballon d'Or. Reputation takes time to build.

They should make a separate list for Ronaldo and Messi and stop including those two in any other lists whatsoever.

Kane & Salah should be nowhere near. Bernardo & Sterling, on the other hand, deserve an inclusion, City were the best performing team of the last season.

Ronaldo was okay and saved his best performances for CL as usual. A hat-trick against Atlético and 2 goals against Ajax — he was unlucky that the rest of the team weren’t up for it (even though his presence forced them to play only through him). Not good enough to win it, but I can see why he’s in the shortlist.

The Alisson mentions here show how people are swayed by stats (thanks to Pool’s defence) and not actual performances.

It's completely irrelevant that City won four trophies. You can be a great team and still not have the best individual player in it.

Messi should win every single individual "best player of the year" trophy, pretty much every season. If you actually watch football, it's pretty obvious that he performs at a higher level than anyone else. Even if he played for Brighton, and never won a trophy again, he'd still deserve to win all the individual awards as long as he performed at his normal level.

For what is Kane nominated?
This is what FIFA tweeted along with his nomination:

"Helped Tottenham reach maiden Champions League final
Scored 17 goals in 28 Premier League games
Nations League semi-finalist with England"

I wish I was joking.

I am with you on this one ... very strange Bernardo is not included. I think it devalues the awards when this type of thing happens

the champions league holds more weight it seems. I think Bernard Silva needs to be there ahead of Di Jong and Kane, but their failure in the champions league seems to had a negative outcome on him being shortlisted.

It is a factor, but not the sole factor. It is hard to not imagine that if Pep beat Pochettino in the champions league and reached the finals that they would not have a player shortlisted. As such, my point stand and is still valid. Considering that Pochettino did the unprecedented, a player from Spurs had to be rewarded and it seems like Kane got that by default of being their best player. Even though, I don’t agree with the choice, it is the result of Pochettino getting Spurs to the finals.

Hazard deserves to be there. Not sure about Kane or Salah though.

How does Hazard deserve to be in over Salah?

One was key in his club winning the CL, nearly winning the league whilst the others best moments were against weak bottom level sides in the PL.

Stats dont back up Hazard either.

One is massively overrated and other underrated.

You can pretty much dismiss league form when there's a WC year. Only WC and CL counts.
