Seriously even if he wasn't a top target Woody needs to go out and deliver this guy just to stem the tidal wave of backlash thats coming his way. We know you are on here listening Woody so just do it to save your ass!

This is the exact reason we have been failing for the past years. Fans like you.
Who will have a go at Woodward for not signing anyone, and then be happy with a signing that cost £50m plus.

You absolutely cannot sign someone just because you fear the fans backlash, that is such a poor decision, and for a fan to suggest it is shocking.

We need players who fit what we are trying to build.

This is the problem with all fans, happy just to spend money on anyone.

What is going on?! For the last few weeks we've been told a deal is pretty much done and 2 hours left of the window and nothing :(
They has never been interest. It’s the Portuguese media. Come 5pm I’ll be going to paddy power to collect some cash, I got odds of 6/4 that he wouldn’t move:D

Have you seen Fernandes play? Other than YouTube clips?

Friggin hell lads...tough day? I was actually only joking around about the signing to appease the fans bit, it was tongue in cheek. I do however (like most others) believe that we need more bodies in MF or else we are in trouble for the coming season.

Frustrated. lack of progress at the club.

The reason for that response, I have seen many fans who would be happy with that and be all happy and again Woody would have covered the cracks only to realise in December when we are struggling that we need more bodies.

Agreed about midfield but it has to be the right players. I’d rather play Gomes, Garner and McTominay than spend €70m on Fernandes, who couldn’t cut it at Sampdoria and has had one good season in Portugal. Eriksen was the right fit but he didn’t want to sign so we need to buy the right players, it can’t be done now, so we just have to hope Ole will be here next summer and we can get the right players in then. It’s a building job, we won’t be competing at the top of the league for a few years unfortunately.

The whole Fernandes debacle reminds me a lot of Mina last year. Every story appears to be driven by his agent, he's been linked with so many clubs but none seem to be that interested. Speaks volumes to me.

But then again, I don't understand our fans frustrations at the window. We've done well. Not brilliant, but definitely above satisfactory.

What's not to understand? Strengthen defence but weakening midfield and attack is not "above satisfactory".

An injury to Pogba and we'll have a midfield of McTominay, Matic and Fred feeding a front 3 who will do well to collectively get 25 league goals.

This whole Fernandes thing is hype generated by player, agent and press to try and force a move. Most of the people calling for him here I bet hadn't even heard of him until the PR train got going. It is far more important Man Utd get in the right players than they just get in "someone". If Ole doesn't think he's a top player who he would really like to work with, then there is no purpose at all to signing him. Most people here seem just to have watched a bit on Youtube and filled in the blanks themselves so he's the second coming of their favourite AM.

So in your opinion the right player is "no one"? When we have lost Fellaini and Herrera in the midfield? That there is no player in the whole world that is the "right" player for us that's why we shouldn't sign any midfielder? This is not FM, your wonderkids won't be able to carry the team. We easily have the worst midfield in the top 6, and the likes of Wolves, Everton and Leicester can say their midfield is better than ours and not many people can argue against that. Far more important that Ole likes him bla bla bla, how do you know that Ole doesn't like him? Maybe Ole really likes him but Ed doesn't see value in the transfer? It won't even matter anyway if he's sacked before this season ends as Pogba gets injured/moody and our whole midfield crumble.

32 goals and 18 assists in 53 games last year from Midfield. 20 for Sporting in their league.

To put it into context, Rashford has scored 22 in three seasons for United in the Prem.

Go sign him Woodward.

I don't play Football Manager. McTominay will be a better player this year than last. Fred will play and play regularly - for better or worse he is a £52m investment who was scouted, so there is an expectation he will be better this year. Pogba is high quality. There are plenty of number 10 options. There is a need for a central midfielder, but a big money signing who Ole clearly doesn't want is not going to be the answer to anything, it will create more problems, because he's not, in the judgment of the manager, the right player.

I didn't say there was no right player in the world, that's an odd thing to say. It's just clear that the right player isn't currently available, and there is less than a football match's length left in the window anyway.

And Pereira. And Mata, possibly Gomes IF we play 3 in midfield (I don't think we will).

One more would have been nice but given we've addressed our 2 biggest deficiencies, it's hardly a failure.

Who needs midfield? We are going to lob the ball forward and by pass midfield altogether.

There's still 6 ongoing deals in the Premier league till 7pm but no rumors about BF.

Hopefully he's staying!

I'm sure somewhere around there're still some who believe Di Marzio was right and we were in for him.

Just usual loads of bollocks the Portuguese journalists do every summer and the fact that Di Marzio got caught in it this time is terrible.

I don't know, our purse was pretty much closed and we're looking to buy mature with lukaku sale. There could be a possibility that sporting was asking too much like Newcastle was for log staff, but as Woodward is in control of media operations at united he keeps briefing the press whatever message he wants out in here.

I honestly believe we were never in for him, which is actually another problem if it was true.

The links to this player never quite felt right. He doesn't look anything special and the Portugese media billed him to be this 70 million pound player which seemed random. Spurs going to for Lo Celso isn't surprising.

People absolutely convinced themselves he was special too. So odd.
