Are utd fans becoming the most self entitled fans in the league? The crying on here because we haven't signed half a team is quite sad. A new breed of plastics.
Agreed.

6/10 window for me.

Got priorities 1 and 2. Could have done with a midfielder and goal threat from the right would have been nice.

8/10 for me.

I'm delighted that we shipped out Rom for a start, I'm also pleased that we haven't brought in a striker in the hope we will be giving youth a chance.

RB and CB is sorted and De Gea is staying long term, our defence is much improved.

I'm looking forward to watching Greenwood, Gomes and James this season, it's certainly more interesting than any of the previous post Fergie years IMO.

If everything isn't going to plan next year we can bring in some experienced players and if possible go for a superstar should one be available.

I'm excited for us to go back to our roots and put faith in youth, it may not work out but it's better than our previous approaches recently. It will be fun!

Right, now its dusted.

We needed a RB, a CB, two CM's, a RW and a STR if Lukaku left (which he did).

We signed a RB and a CB.

2/6.

Transfer window score = 3/10. Absolutely disgusting.
That's my exact assessment too. A whole new level of incompetence. After telling us even before last season ended we would see a squad overhaul. We actually have a weaker squad! Unbelievable. I hear about having a plan and direction, but we lack the quality to successfully implement any top tier plan. Unless there's some game changing miracles in store, it's gonna be a long long season...

We needed: CB, RB, CM, ST, RW (conservative, went only for 1 CM) - 2 points for each

- CB Maguire +2
- RB AWB +2
- CM none -2
- ST none -2
- RW James(average) +1

So it's a fiver, an optimistic fiver.

As an outsider my view is that the signing I would like best is AWB. Already a “shut down” defender and will improve his all round game further. Maguire has good character and exceptional ball control for a big man but he’s not value for the fee and wages you are giving up particularly as the receiving club have aspirations to rival you in the table as things stand.
James is an intriguing prospect but is not likely to consistently make you better right away and could hinder the progression of the home grown batch of players who are looking to get some game time this season.
Frustrating for you to see all the big name forwards and midfielders that came and went but getting those deals over the line is very difficult particularly when you have faith that the answers may be available using your own resources.

Overall I would rate it a B-

Maguire and Wan-Bissaka are fantastic signings but they didn't single-handedly make their teams finish in the top four last season.

Ultimately you a better team now than you were at the start of the window, but barring Chelsea every other rival within the top 8 are much better teams than they were at the start of the window, so you've lost significant ground.

This season will be hell but given the profile of your squad, if you can somehow jam a Europa League win this season then you will actually most likely be incredibly strong by 2020-2021

As an outsider do you not find it strange that Ole who has previously failed in England, has been given the keys to the most successful club in the country, desperate to get back up to the top after years of decline, would then risk it all on youngsters with no 1st team appearances? This is a strategy that can be implemented if you have 6-7 established top class players in your 1st team or you are a team around 10th with no expectations for next season.
If he'd come in and done an average job at the start I'm convinced you'd have gone all out and secured Pochettino by now.

Instead you had your 8-9 wins and night in Paris and that was enough. Even after the dismal end of season fans were still chanting his name after Cardiff game so think it will take a lot for Stretford End to turn next season.

I do think the squad looks weaker than last season, can't believe how weak things look for you in CM. Maybe you'll find an attacking trio that clicks as it did in OGS first 10 games.

3.5/10 for me.

Happy enough with Slabhead and AWB is a strong signing. James might develop so some reason for cautious optimism.

However, we needed a lot of improvements to our attack and midfield but instead we lost Herrera and Lukaku.

Really poor once again, the club have no ambition at all. Our net spend is too depressing for me to even bother working out.

Mixed feelings for me after the window closed. None of this hysterical crap, but trying to be fair and balanced.

Rating our signings:
10/10 Wan-Bissaka - Looks a real bargain in an inflated market, and he's an excellent addition. Very well could be the best RB in the league, and potentially a world class signing.
9/10 Maguire - Docked a point because we could (should) have brought him in sooner, and he's still going to have the "world's most expensive defender" tagline hanging over his head. The reality is we bought the best CB that was available and wanted to come to United, and is a significant upgrade on the side. Future leader potential as well.
9/10 - Dan James - As far as potential goes, he has something about him, and if he progresses he could really be nightmare for opposing defenses with his pace. His finishing needs work, but he's young and there's plenty of time to improve.

Rating our departures (as of the time of this writing):
10/10 Fellaini (January) - Bye
10/10 Lukaku - He can seriously f**k off
9/10 Valencia - Docked 1 point because he was a long serving servant to the club
6/10 Herrera - If things go pear shaped, we'll hear about this incessantly, but he simply wasn't a player we needed to put on first team wages in with our f****d-up wage structure. Docked 4 points because we didn't replace him.

Overall Squad:
Starting Defense 8/10 - We've clearly upgraded. An AWB - Lindelhof - Maguire - Shaw settled back 4, supported by Smalling, Axel, Dalot and Jones is exciting and solid. Shaw concerns me, and $25 mil for Tierney to challenge him would've been gold.

Midfield 2/10 - I'm guessing it will be McT, Andreas, and Pogba? We kept Pogba, but if Pogba goes in this window it's a 0/10 dumpster fire. I think he'll be a pro and get on with it, but if he doesn't and downs tools it will plague us all season. Ole is putting an incredible amount of faith in McTominay, Gomes, Andreas and possibly Garner to get us over the line. Relying on Matic is also a major concern. Ole and the club have taken a major gamble here on the youth. Matic, Pogba, McT simply is not good enough.

Starting Forwards 7/10 - Martial, Rashford and ... Lingard? Adding a point because I'm assuming, like many are, that we are saving our money for Sancho. At some point we have to know what we actually have with Rashford and Martial, and if keep bringing in forwards to play in front of them, we'll never know what they offer. Greenwood could certainly surprise as well, perhaps Chong. Mandzukics would've been a nice security blanket, but for 16 mil + 150,000 a week, well, no thanks. And then there's Sanchez...

Squad (7/10): I'm not too fussed with Young, Jones, Smalling, Matic and Mata, like most. Dalot, Lingard, Andreas, Axel, Chong are good shouts. It's clear that Ole wants continuity with SAF and players who have a winning mentality and have won the league. Bar Smalling, though, I really hope we don't see significant playing time and these guys to be starting every match. Also, didn't Mata take a massive pay cut to stay with us? Criminal that doesn't get any respect on here. Added + 1 because I like idea of Dan James coming on to terrorize defenses.

Total Team Evaluation: 6/10

The real deadwood:
0/10 (so far) - Darmian and Rojo need to leave. There's still time. "Jesus, hear my prayer".
0/10 - Bailly should've been sold, and I hope would've been sold. A core of Maguire, Lindelhof, Smalling, Axel and Jones should be our CB pool. Ole should've never risked him in pre-season, but it happens (City just lost a f****g fortune on a Sane transfer, most likely)

The Problem Children:
?/10 - Pogba. Who knows. We kept him and he could put his head down and lead us to glory or totally down tools. If Perez finds 160 million under his settee in the next 30 days, we're in big trouble.
?/10 - Sanchez - Nobody was ever going to take him off us, i suspect. Maybe he'll find form or continue to be anchor on the side. It's no surprise the club was conservative with spending, he's potentially the world's most expensive anchor. If we manage to move him in any capacity (loan, China in January, etc.) the score would rise to 10/10.
10/10 - Lukaku - So happy he's gone. The race to the bottom between him and Koscielny was a sight to behold. Cnuts.

Overall: 6/10
Ole is gambling on the kids to make a class of '92 type impact, or we fall back on Matic and Mata as regular starters. We ignored RW (I hope because we're going in so hard for Sancho when he's available that we will blow everyone out of the water). There's just so much faith being placed in McT, Martial, Rashford, Lingard and Greenwood that it's concerning and worrying. The signings are superb, but there really, really should have been more investment. CDM and RW are gaping holes in the side and this is a massive gamble on the youth. We've saved a ton of money that simply has to be invested in January and next Summer. I'm just not sure Ole will be around to invest it. It's a bold project, the boldest we've seen from any manager since SAF left, but it's also exciting and deeply worrying. This is a team that could easily start dipping into mid-table if things don't go right.

5/10. The upgrade on defence are great but we are lacking in depth at attacking. Should add a pogba backup at least. Watching the game vs milan really shows how our engine work without him.

We are lucky chelsea cannot do business this window but spurs city and arsenal have a great window. Getting top 4 will be hard again unless our youngsters step up but that is a massive gamble.

One major question mark is the number of central defenders we actually have in the squad and what the managerial team was thinking in the summer? We have Maguire, Lindelöf, Smalling, Jones, Bailly, Smalling and Tuanzebe at central defence while having a right winger as our backup left back.

If Tuanzebe is anything but third choice there was no reason to keep him in the squad and it would have been way better to send him back to Villa for some real first team experience.

Now we'll be spending 500k/week or more to keep 4 centre backs who will literally never ever play.

Central midfield is an obvious issue and a midfield 3 of Pogba-McTominay with Jesse at 10 is nowhere near good enough for a club aiming to compete with Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and City. They have players way ahead of ours at at least 2/3 midfield positions, and we haven't even started with the forward positions.

Rashford is a great talent but relying on him as the one and only central striker in the squad is mental. He scored 3 in 17 last year at CF and although I think he'll score about 15 this year, it's a huge risk to take considering how poor and inconsistently Martial has performed since his arrival here.

James is another player I really like, his personality and professionalism, determination and talent all seem a great fit... but not as first choice right wing - he will get slaughtered after a couple of bad performances and might never recover mentally. Should not be going from mid table Championship straight to starting for us but it's too late now.

Another huge issue is that if Rashford is injured - Martial is the only option at striker aside from an underage Mason Greenwood - okay, it might work out, but it's another massive gamble I really don't think we can afford to take.

Although I am fully behind the team I think this window was a huge missed opportunity with Chelsea coming back from a ban next year and probably spending a good 250m, we really had to take our chance this year and get top 4. If we finish 4-8th we risk losing a lot of ground to the other top teams but heyo, at least football's back soon!

6/10 for me as well.
I base this on direct comparison with our main competitors.
Tottenham have had a better window than us assuming Ericsson stays.
Arsenal have also had a better window and for 8m, David Luiz is a steal.
For Chelsea it is what it is and loosing both Hazard and Luiz will be a massive loss.

Very pleased with the signings that we have made.
Happy Lukaku has gone.
Disappointed that Rojo didn't go too.
Very concerned we failed to add to Midfield.
Puzzled by Mata renewal.
Interested to see what happens with the youngsters.

Overall, a quite positive 6/10 with room for improvement.
A quality MF would have been terrific, but I seriously wonder if lSolskjaer only had 4 names on his shopping list, and we signed 3 of them.

Absolute horror show.

We have signed two good players and taken a reasonable punt on an exciting winger but we have failed to address gaping holes in the midfield and right wing whilst allowing our best striker (like him or not) to leave without any replacement. That plus Herrera leaves us woefully short and gambling on youth and previously inconsistent players.

You look back to the season we signed Carrick and let Ruud go for hope but Rashford and Martial are sadly a long way off Rooney and Ronaldo.

I think we had a few names on the list for midfield although I believe Longstaff was always the priority. Simon Stone reported several weeks ago that we were shocked at the prices we were being quoted and were trying to negotiate so I am guessing that we couldn't buy at prices we liked and were not willing to overspend. It is interesting that Stone mentioned today that we will keep trying in January, I am not holding my breathbut maybe if we are pushing for top 4 at mid season Ed will be persuaded to bolster the team for the run in.

Valuations are not going to be any cheaper mid season though, and neither will they be next Summer.
Besides, we've just trousered £75m for Lukaku and hopefully a couple more will be sold to Europe soon too.

I am anywhere from a 5 or 6/10. Maguire and Wan-Bissaka could be massive improvements to the defense. Major points there. James is a low risk winger with upside in an area that also needed desperate reinforcements. Martial has looked like a player ready to fight for his spot in the team during pre-season, but if attitude and work rate start to diminish he is finished with Ole and James could take over that spot. Glad to see Lukaku gone and we did get rid of some wages. On the negative side we could have used another midfielder or two, a more seasoned goal scorer for rotation, and obviously a right winger. James looked far better IMO on the left in pre-season. Could be another 1 or 2 out, but wouldn't count on it.

6/10

But let's not forget that this team got 2nd place and 82 points only a couple of seasons ago. We've got a stronger squad now, imo.

The reason that 2018/19 went off the rails was down to mismanagement which meant that we played less than the sum of our parts. I'm confident that with the right philosophy and ethic, we can reach at least the same heights as 2017/18. Things are looking positive on that front (our shape has been a lot more cohesive this Summer).

The transfers we've completed are going to help us hugely, imo. They're perfectly suited to Ole's high press style, and preseason has shown how successful it could be. So whilst I only rate the transfer window as a 6 (because a couple more reinforcements would have been nice), I think we're very much on the right track. Overall, I think the club is at an 8 (with 9 being competing at the very top, and 10 being winning big trophies).

It's also worth noting that Ole is following the LvG model of squad building. We've got a small number of seniors with any gaps expected to be filled by kids. It's easy to forget, but Rashford is only 21 and probably probably wouldn't even be a senior if the opportunity hadn't been designed for him that way. I like it as strategy, and expect to see more success with it this season.

I can see Ashley dropping his price if Newcastle are in the relegation places but otherwise I agree, the rule has always been that mid season transfers are overpriced as clubs don't typically want to sell unless it is for a premium.

Somewhere between 'awful' and 'eh'.

Very happy with Wan-Bissaka. We've been overdue to sign a proper right back for almost a decade and it feels like we've got the right one.

James looks promising but nowhere near a sure thing, and is probably a type of player the squad needed.

Maguire I'm still not convinced is good enough to take the club up a level, but I will acknowledge he was probably the best available. No chance he's worth a world record fee, but we didn't give ourselves much of a choice other than to just pay it. The infuriating part is they told us 6 months ago they'd only sell him for 80m, so we spent the entire summer hemming and hawing and wasting all of our manpower trying to get this transfer done and ended up just giving them what they originally asked for at the end of the window, when we had little time to work on other deals. Shades of Fellaini. Absolute howler from Woodward. Should have been in the bag the day the window opened.

Letting Herrera walk and not replacing him is madness, especially when we all know Pogba doesn't want to be here. Pogba will likely be even more uninterested this season (especially if things start going poorly) and there'll be no one to pick up the slack. Matic is over the hill, Fred looks generally out of his depth, McTominay is limited in his abilities and Andreas has still yet to show he can consistently produce at the level United requires going forward.

For all of Lukaku's faults, we're much worse off without him since we didn't sign a replacement. I'm as excited about Greenwood as the next guy, but expecting him to shoulder the burden of losing a player who scored nearly 40+ goals over the past two seasons is a lot to ask of a 17 year old. I know the common refrain is "the goals won't necessarily have to come from him" but Rashford scored fewer goals than Lukaku even last year, despite the fact that he played significantly more minutes. Further, both Rashford and Martial's career minutes per goal in the league are well above 200.

I'd love to be wrong, but I don't see any grit in midfield and our attack looks toothless. This was a key summer in catching back up to our rivals and we've decided to say feck it and drift farther away. The road ahead looks terrifying.

Its been a very poor window lets start with what happened before the additions:

Renewals of Smalling, Jones, Young and Mata all players who are not good enough and we should have been looking to get rid of.

In particular the renewal of Jones at CB who is unable to stay fit when we knew we were about to a) spend a massive amount on Maguire at CB and b) had Tuanzebe as a competent and emerging option in the position. This renewal is a catastrophic fail we know have 7 CBs on our books well done United

Renewal of Mata - a player blocking the progress of the emerging Gomes being renewed for 2 years at the age of 31 an attacking player who has contributed a grand total of 6 league goals over the past 2 season. Well done

Failure to renew Herrera - A player who was integral to our resurgence under Ole failure to act allowed him to leave on a free transfer (whilst we renewed players as mentioned above who were not even intended to be integral to the first 11). Not only did we lose Herrera on a free we also failed to replace him. Well done

Now on to signings:

Maguire signing - An essential signing dragged on without actually acquiring a discount on the figure. Largely due to the fact we threw away our negotiating position by signing a less experienced player in Wan Bassaka, for a near 50m price tag whilst still in negotiations for Maguire. This allowed Leicester to leverage the deal to validate their position and justify the Maguire fee. Even then we failed in complete the Maguire deal in time for him to develop a partnership with Lindelof Shaw and Wan Bassaka during preseason. In doing so we didn't save a penny on the transfer fee, we paid the 80m we knew it would cost back in May. Well done

Wan Bassaka - An excellent signing and highlight of the transfer window, about the best signing we could have possibly hoped for to address the problematic position

In saying that Maguire and Wan Bassaka will improve our defence especially Wan Bassaka who was an excellent acquisition, some plus point here. Defence is certainly better than last season.

Lukaku - Positive to sell him as he didn't fit the system and obviously had issues with Ole, negative is that he was the top scoring player of all the attackers last season and his goals have not been replaced in the squad. Overall we have taken goals out of the attack. Leaving us with likely the weakest attack of the top 7 sides along with Chelsea

Daniel James - A good prospect signed, looks not to be quite ready in pre season. Major concern however he favoured position is LW, once again we have left the RW position without a viable senior option

Problem positions not addressed:

RW, CM, CDM -

Likely have the weakest set of CMs in the top 8 along with Arsenal with McTominay being the most consistent and our best player Pogba being inconsistent and not really wanting to remain at the club. Massive problems and nothing addressed here during this window, in fact we have got weaker with the departure of Herrera.

CDM - In Matic we have a player who was likely one of our worse performers last season and a major reason for our defensive issue, still looking like the only senior player who can play this position, remains to be seen if McTominay can step into this role however a major gamble especially if we get an injury

RW - No specialist senior RW in the squad

Failure to offload deadwood:

Ole clearly wanted players sold and replaced. So far we have managed to offload one player, Lukaku. Massive fail so far

Bailly - Another CB with an issue staying fit, for whom there was some interest in the market. A failure to prioritise his sale instead giving him minutes in preseason where he inevitably injured himself yet again. Well done

Reputational damage:

Public briefings regarding major signings especially Dybala before we were sure we could actually secure the deal, once again showing the world we are ametuers in the game

Public briefings that Ole would be backed fully in the transfer window to rebuild the squad not met

Public words by the manager "You would be surprised how many agents are calling us to let us know their players want to play for Manchester United" yet we failed to acquire a single target for 2 priority position according to our briefings of CM and RW

Failure to address sporting structure:

Likely the biggest failure has been the lack of movement in restructuring the player recruitment and sporting directional structure of the football club. Whilst the like of Arsenal and Chelsea have managed to hire sporting directors and DOFs United is still one of the only sides in the top 8 with an outdated structure.

Again public briefings that United want to hire a DOF before the manager is appointed, and then before the transfer window ends have come to nothing but empty words and hot air. So much for all the interviews of former players etc.

All in all a very poor summer from United.

An improved defence overall
A weaker midfield overall
A weaker attack (in terms of goals) overall

Yeah, we didn't sign anyone last season though and have had an entirely defunct whole side of the pitch for years, not to mention the other holes and weak positions. We have the worst attack we've had in years because we somehow managed to sell a terrible footballer no one wanted, yet still weaken ourselves..something only a modern day United could manage.

We've also had to put up with some of the worst football imaginable in the top flight, also for years now, and would really like to look forward to games again. But yeah nah, self entitled.

Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of positives in the team, but it's also looking like it'll be another season we want to forget and move on from, even before it starts. Feel free to chastise me for saying that before a ball is kicked, but I think it's naive to think otherwise.

It had the potential to be a 10/10 then fizzled out into a 6/10

With City and Liverpool spending so little, this was the year we really could have closed the gap but the owners bottled it. If the players step up this season, I think we can still finish in the top 3, but all depends on them being motivated and desperate for trophies which is hard to imagine with this group of players

Our squad's entire lineup of forwards scored a combined 21 league goals last season, and we didn't sign a striker to replace Lukaku. Our most scoring player currently is a midfielder who probably wants to go next season and will have plenty of offers. Where are the goals supposed to come from? Rashford, Martial and Sanchez collectively failed to outscore a 31 year old Aguero. How the upcoming season can possibly be anything but abject disaster is a mystery to me. We do not have one dependable striker.

We are back where we were: dependent on Paul Pogba as the go to man. We know how that will go. We'll be fine when he is up for it, we will be woeful when he is not.

Everyone has his opinion and that is what forums like this are all about.
However, getting a midfielder in was a must and we failed in that regard that is going to haunt us.

Not really. Our transfers seem to be in a 12 month lag.

We needed RB and CB last year and not getting them cost us our place in Champions League. So getting them this summer only rectifies an old problem.

We’ve now also lost 2 midfielders and a striker, all seriously competing for first XI starting selection. They need replacing, preferably with better. And we’ve needed a classy Right winger for along time.

Why should Manchester United not have these players? Look forward to your answer.

So we still have a huge wage bill can’t shift deadwood like Jones and Rojo and Woodenhead sells Lukaku for a million less than we paid for him and in this inflated market, the man is a walking fecking disaster.
Oh well seeing us fight for 6th will be interesting I suppose.

Very very disappointed in the end, much like last year, given our net spend.

AWB and Maguire are great signings, in my view, and James is an exciting punt.

The fact we didn’t replace Lukaku, or at least use the money we got for him is absolutely disgraceful, however. We definitely needed another attacking option, either a creative midfielder or goal scorer. United are still well short on top quality.

Given how rich we are, the fans are entitled to expect the money we put into the club is largely spent on the team. These last two summers have been massive missed opportunities. We’re regularly being outspent by relegation sides.

This was a key summer in catching back up to our rivals and we've decided to say feck it and drift farther away.
I'm usually content with quiet windows, but this was a summer when we really could've used a psychological boost in the transfer market: Chelsea faced a ban, and both Spurs and Arsenal were expected to have little money to spend. The latter proved to be wrong, and while that's out of our control, it does show that signing players is not as difficult as Woodward's aptitude professes.

For the third consecutive season, the club did not meet its managers' transfer ambitions. Of these, Perisic is arguably the only dodged bullet, although as Gary Neville pointed out, this is irrelevant to the larger point.

I still believe that the club is willing to spend money, but we are indecisive - content to wait and see if a "perfect" transfer would materialise and knock on our door. I know it because I do it in real life. It just sucks when the multi-million pound club I support does the same thing.

Lackluster transfer window. For me, the jury is out on James and Maguire, but Aaron looks promising. 5/10
