almost a year to the day to our search starting it continues

this is more evidence of the ridiculous running of the club - they are taking the piss with this statement

had it out with someone in the Ole should agitate thread about Woodwards reluctance to actually hire a 'best in class' candidate. I'd bet the technical Director will be a sentimental choice to placate fans

did we identify any players whatsoever who weren't English this window? we didnt bid on any and Dybala/Manduzic seemed to be pushed towards us by Juve, eager to sell

This is beyond funny now, this is a shame. Hope the fans show what they think of Ed and the Glazers on Sunday.

One day after the transfer window closes. At least they could have waited some time to make it less obvious

Its incredible that many of you cannot comprehend that bringing in a Technical Director during the middle of the Transfer season may have a negative effect on the general day to day running of the club and the overall success of that person.

Look at the ridiculous overreaction to this article in the thread and the responses from the posters, then consider what would be the reaction if a Director had come in in June and the purported failure by Woodward to make signings fell on his head?

United would have laid a deadline to find a Director prior to the Transfer window starting. Its obvious that they are yet to find a contact that is suitable for the role, that upholds the traditions of United, but provides something more than we already have.

If Gary Neville and his merry group of muppets keep banging on about finding "best in class", "best in class" is not just going to present itself at our door. Further, unlike footballers and managers, there is significant ramifications with regards to signing directors and executives from business. Especially when you consider that overall financial success and operation of the business is systematically relied on this single person. I would say the role is more important than a manager or a player at the club because he has to work with everybody.

Get your head out of your arses and stop thinking this is an overnight fix.

Overnight fix? They’ve been trying to hire a director for almost a year it’s a fecking sham.

There’s no director now and there won’t be next summer either.

So Woody will still negotiate the transfers. Essentially this would just feck things up even more as now Ole would be out of the loop so that Woodward and the Yes Man can feck things up even more.
This worries me too. Woodward and Judge have proven themselves to be out of touch with the market. Chasing Maguire all summer to pay what we could've got him for at the beginning and demanding for £25m for Marcos Rojo with the wages he's on being the latest examples. They've also been trying to sell Darmian for what seems like an eternity and fail every time.

Good post. The idea someone could have come in during the middle of the transfer window and made a difference is nuts.

That’s not to say we are well run. This appointment should have been made years ago... but trying to bring someone in during the window would have just made things worse

I realise this is not an overnight fix. Although I don't know how long these things take, this seems to be taking a very long time.

Do you know how long these appointments usually take and how long do you think it will take to appoint one please? :)

There's going to be a wonderful expose book written about United's post-Fergie years. The Doomed United.

What's also a tad worrying / unrealistic (IMO) is this 'new vision' of building the team around young domestic talent.

We've just paid £80m for a CB from Leicester and £55m for a RB from Palace (very promising, but very little experience). So now we need to sort out the more expensive positions, how much is that going to cost...

No10 - Maddison judging by those figures above, if he has another decent season we will be looking at £100m, Winger - same with Sancho (who will probably be slightly more). Even the lads from Villa, Grealish (who I would have gone for this summer) and McGinn, one good season and you will be looking at over £70m a piece.

If the powers that be have really bought into this new vision, then why not back Ole in his pursuit of (DM) Longstaff. Again his value will only shoot up (unless they get relegated), he plays a full season, they will want north of £60m for him.

So we are probably looking at the best part of £250-£280m on three players, which is not going to happen.

Could it be the club is not as financially rich as made out due to transfer blunders of the past 6 years and its a plan to operate within this existing recruitment structure to keep costs down?

If the owners/Woodward appointed a technical director that would mean handing over transfer activity power to someone and if the new man did not have the structure to do his work a media war would erupt with the new man, which in effect would have negative consequences for the owners. Rumours seem to suggest the role would not involve any negotiating or signing transfer targets. Basically, the role would be a front/face for Woodward who would still be in charge.

Jesus Christ man they were talking about this in December 2018. Plenty of time to get someone in and get them ready to support our summer window

Woodward was pretty quick at getting out his post- window briefings this year - anticipating a backlash, presumably.

Anyway, needless to say, this is the same nonsense we've been hearing for two years. It will either happen or it won't, but in the meantime, the club should just shut up about it, because they are just embarrassing themselves at this point.

The club hoped to have a DoF in place by the start of the season as per Woodward's mouthpiece James Cooper in April. Not sure how much involvement they would have had immediately though, probably not a lot (assuming the Glazers intended to appoint someone which I doubt).

Manchester United are keen on appointing their first technical director later this year to back up new permanent manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Sky Sports News understands.

The timing of the move remains uncertain, but United would like to have the new man in place before the start of the 2019/20 season in August.

I'll make it short, it doesn't matter what the role of the technical director is or whether Woodward exist or not. The CEO/Chaiman of a football club will always be in charge, nothing and no one can alter that. The only person that will lose power/influence is the manager.

Woodward and the owners are a set of cnuts.

This briefing is just taking the piss out of fans.

There are posters on here who bury their heads under the sand and enable this shithawk regime.

We are in for a dreadful season, with only Chelsea having a worse window on account of not being allowed to buy.

Thanks for sharing that article:). It seemed to me as if we had a lot of time but I wasn't sure. I think ideally we should have got one in before Ole but that didn't happen. So I thought we would have brought one in before the summer window but that didn't happen.

Seems like Woody making up same old sh!te to cover himself up again. Don't think he is giving Ole a good enough platform to build from and I think he will make Ole the scapegoat if everything doesn't turn out how well he wants it to.

Hire the guy and have him work within the budget appointed.

It's far better than them muddling about with a budget while getting taken to the cleaners every single deal due to their incompetence.

It's infuriating how blindingly obvious the solution is and yet you've the bunch of leeches doing feck all about it.

I see Ed is busy briefing, as it happens every few months. We are not looking for anyone, Ed & the Glazers are perfectly happy where we are.

A top director of football should have been hired the moment Sir Alex handled his resignation letter. He would have had the time to settle down, learn the culture of the club, analyse the talent we've got and come out with a list of players we need. If managers refuse to work with a DOF then tough luck. They could stay unemployed (Mou), with Holland (LVG), with Molde (Ole) or with Everton (Moyes). Its not as if our 'top tier' managers had better options prior joining us.

The club underestimate how valuable a top DOF would be. The guy will have contacts to help us get rid of our deadwood, he'll be well versed about talent from different leagues rather then rely on expensive and overhyped players from the local pool and he'll be able to target players who are gettable and work on different deals at the same time. Many might think that there wasn't any value in the transfer market. I beg to differ. The likes of Joachim Andersen, Praet, Tielemans, Kean, Manolas, Mancini and Cutrone would have strengthen us significantly. Not to forget other players like Bergwijn, Ziyech, Max Aarons, Suso and Tonali who would have probably offered way better value to the signings we've made.

Don't take me wrong, the signings we made (2 of them, the other is just some speed merchant) are a solid improvement to what we got. However if a club is in the middle of a major rebuilding process (the political correct version of a mess) and its working on a limited budget then it would be silly to spend it all on an 80m and a 50m on two decent but hardly WC players. That's because by doing so you'll be left with glaring weaknesses in other positions.

Thus we should hire a top DOF immediately and then work our way down. If Ole adapts to the ordeal then well and good. If not, then the DOF will have the opportunity to have a real say on whom we hire next, someone whose in line to the philosophy of the club and can also think outside the box. If we're hiring some rookie (Fletcher, Rio or some other pundit) then we might as well keep the role vacant.

That's what I've heard too, the role is just a facade, which is why they have been looking at ex players with absolutely no experience of being a DoF.
Maybe that also explains why experienced DoF's have turned the job down (assuming they have been approached in the first place)

Hahahaha, you have to laugh.
Several posters on here called this, as soon as the dust settles from the dreadful transfer window - out come the briefings and leaks to 'reassure the fans' that while it looks like a shitshow on paper, behind the scenes the club are doing all the right things.

Fecking bollocks, every single word of it. Don't give them a penny or expect the same next year.

As long as fans keep paying merchandise, turning up to home / away games, the glazers have every right to continue their foolishness. You have to be the change that you want to see in the world, start culling all the investment your making into this club instead of moaning and still supporting these guys pockets.

It's just total contempt for the fans to brief journalists with this complete and utter fecking bollocks.

Everyone knows now that Woodward is a liar and a fraud and you can't trust anything he says.

I try to be objective and not blame everything on Ed but on this occasion he is taking the piss.

What a tool.

Maybe he needed one more window to prove to himself he is absolutely clueless at getting value in the transfer market?
