Who is doing that?
Herrera, Ramsay, Lewandowski (for his Bayern move), possibly Ozil and De Gea this summer. I wouldn't be surprised if Pogba refuses to sign and just leaves on a free. I would leave it as late as possible as a player personally. It makes sense from their POV since for clubs they're more like property assets - and many clubs really don't have the player's best interests at heart.

Well half of those left because they couldn't get the wages at their current club. If anything it shows the power that clubs have that they aren't forced to sell these players.
I don't think they wound their contract down by choice tbh. I don't really think its a strategic trend that's developing

Christ.

No.

Zidane isn't stupid, he knows that it doesn't matter if he's high priority as long as the player isn't available on the market, and as i've said since way before the summer, Pogba isn't on the market.

Perez isn't covering his ass, and if there's one thing Real Madrid don't do it's make bids that gets turned down. They make approaches and only make an official offer when they know it gets accepted.
so what do you think was the logic and purpose behind the bid?

Like Hazard its half assed attempts until his contract is winding down then they go in for a cheaper price.
They can then say they tried and it bluffs the player into thinking they really, really want him.

The RM I know usually tries to unsettle players and club by creating a drift, and then put a low ball offer... there is no way RM pays over the odds most of the time so... yes, I can see them making an offer that gets turned down.
Pogba was already 'unsettled' before that bid came in.

I doubt the bid unsettled him more at all, nor did it weaken Woodwards negotiating position.

So I'm still having a head scratch about the purpose of such a derisory and totally unrealistic offer.

Fair enough, I assume you have some links to the club as you speak with such authority on the matter. The Independant and the Spanish media would disagree with you but I bow to your wisdom.

The Spanish media would disagree, oh no

I'll say the same as i said before last season ended, we've made it clear to Pogba and Raiola that we won't entertain any offers. Any club actually making contact has been told the same. There isn't any valuation of £X, we've made it well clear that the player is not for sale this summer and that's it.

The absolute delusion of some in here, Pogba will be going. It's just about when and how professional he'll remain until he goes, likely next summer. The desperation of some in here to cling on to him staying long term is odd. His intentions are clear and have been for some time. Pogba wants to leave but he knows it's unlikely Real will pay the money this Summer. Downing tools isn't going to help a move, he knows it if the club aren't getting a realistic offer it's not worth kicking off. Paul is a really good player but we need to plan a future without him, that midfield needs major work in the next windows. I wish Pogba fan boys would start supporting the team and not a player who doesn't want to be here.

It's been widely reported by very legit reporters that an official bid was made. Sorry if I accept that as fact, as opposed to your unsubstantiated claim!
Ah, not only are they legit but they are very legit. Nice.

We've made them well aware he's not for sale, and we've never shown any interest whatsoever in James. Our interest in Bale stopped the second Jose got sacked, and he's the player they'd instantly try to offload due to his wages. There's no logical reason for Real Madrid, after having no communication over a possible transfer of either players, to suddenly come up with an official bid that involves player + cash. If you want to believe a fairytale, go ahead.

Interesting that Real preferred Hazard to Pobga, seemingly. Who might they prefer next year? Real can be strange about where they spend their money, and Pogba will demand and astronomical salary.

Much like De Gea, I honestly don’t think he has this burning desire to leave here. I think the issues stem from whether he believes we’re going to turn this thing around. He fancies himself as a superstar and he’s not going to stick around here if he thinks we’re going to be forever stuck chasing the top 4 trophy. Van Nistelrooy left here too because he wasn’t going to wait around for us to come good.

This makes him sound terrible and push the buy Premier League narrative, but does anyone honestly think if Madrid came calling for Luke Shaw right now he wouldn’t want to leave either?

I think it's mainly because Saha took his place and SAF was just moving away from playing with a CF like him

I agree. Nothing about him or De Gea to me says that he has a vendetta against United or they have an issue with the club or Ole. I think they're just realistic in their expectations and they're both players that deserve more in terms of trophies. That's why they've tried to stick around for as long as they have and they've not put in transfer requests/do silly shite like Lukaku has done. Unlike him you can tell they genuinely want to bring the glory days back to United, but they're also realising that their careers are short and if it doesn't look like it's going to happen they'd move to try and ensure that it does.

Didn't van Nistlerooy leave immediately before we won three league titles and a CL in three seasons, or was there a buffer season?

Nah. RVN left because he was no longer the main man up top. Saha was getting more and more time and our attacking football got better as he formed a better partnership with Rooney and Ronaldo.

He left in the summer of 2006, so yup.

But again, it had nothing to do with Ruud losing patience in United. We wanted to get rid, we looked more fluid without him in the starting lineup and he'd started sulking.

Exactly, these are professional football careers that only last a few years and if you are one of the best in the world in your position, they don't really need to worry about money, they want to be able to look back in a very short ten years time and say I won this and that etc...I bet Alan Shearer wishes he had made some more intelligent moves.....IF we get back to challenging for league and Europe there may be a change of heart but if I was Pogba right now then a team guaranteed to be challenging for the league and Europe like RM would be stupid to turn down. At least he has the respect to look to go to Spain, I am sure he could engineer interest in one of the top two in EPL if he really wanted.

This is the whole reason why I fully support the buy young hungry players and try and get British based if up to the job - 11 Pogbas is not going to build stability and consistency. Once we are back at the top, then we can recruit and keep players.

You have to remember this is their careers, their 9 to 5 job, they only get a few seasons right at the top of their game and their entire career can end at any time due to injury. They haven't got the time to play the long game.....

Yeah, like, he was great for us, but we were just so much better without him. I never got the impression he left chasing better things. As you say, we wanted rid.

Yeah, and at that point RvN by his own admission had made it an unworkable situation.

He added: "...A few times a year I felt bad about what I had done to him and the names I called him when he kept me on the bench the entire match in the League Cup final in Cardiff. In a blind rage I shouted at him.

"I called him something. I called him a number of things in a blind rage. Cocky and stubborn as I was, I couldn't snap out of that for some time after. That's how it all crashed.

"It was just really disrespectful, there were lots of other people there. It wasn't all that outrageous in terms of words but it was completely out of order. Not done.

"I wasn't proud of it, still am not."

We all know how it goes when an ego comes against Fergie.

On Pogba; as others have said it doesn't seem like he's got tunnel vision for Madrid. If we show marked progress this year then we might be able to convince him it's worth staying on. I still have scouse supporting friends that don't properly rate him, so watching Sunday's game with them was nice - particularly that ridiculously deft ball over the top to Rashford. Subhuman scum, the lot of 'em.

Can't say I agree, we want to be adding quality not selling our better players, but even if I did, so we really think Ole would get all that money to spend? We haven't even spent this year's rumoured budget and Lukaku fee.
I am as anti-Glazer as the next person but in the same situation, I would have handled the Lukaku transfer exactly the same way. If Dybala had been keen to join, we would have got a replacement I believe most fans would have been happy with. Since Dybala clearly was only willing to join for the wrong reasons, we took the cash on offer from Inter. Obviously we haven't re-invested the money as yet because the window shut that same day. Since Lukaku did not appear to be part of Ole's plans and had gone AWOL, I say better to have taken the money rather than have a sulky player sat ruining the mood until the window opened again.

So in summary, yes I agree that Pogba is a quality player but I do believe we WOULD re-invest the money. Call me naive but there has to be a balance between wanting the Glazers out but not being ridiculously critical of absolutely every decision they take (or do not take). I don't believe it would make sense for the Glazers to deliberately weaken their own asset when they are currently raking it in anyway. IF it was purely about making a quick buck, why not just sell half our squad in 2006?

I agree with this, and if anyone wants to know why we have not replaced Lukaku, have to look around and think which striker around would come in and make an immediate impact?

We spent the whole Pre season training with Martial and Rashford up top, selling Lukaku has not changed Ole's plans or preparations, bring someone else would have just said to Rash and Martial, No I dont have confidence in you.

Ole also mentioned, he wants to give Greenwood more opportunities, and there is alot of hype around this kid, so why not say to him here show us what you can do, because I am sure all 3 of them know a below par season and we will replace them cause we have the funds from Lukaku.

Lastly, we seem to have changed the transfer policy for the better, and it would be a waste of time signing someone for the sake of it.

Although I think Pogba and Raiola are a virus but we need to understand how important Pogba is to our midfield. He was struggling to keep hold of the ball in the first 20 min of the game against Chelsea and so were we as a team but the moment he came into his own, we started performing as a team. I mean if he's on-song, we will more than likely win against team in the world. The problem is that he's inconsistent but the guy definitely has potential more than any midfielder at the moment. I would say that Frankie De Jong probably matches Pogba in terms of potential. To get Pogba to be more inconsistent, we've got take away the pressure on him and that can happen when we have better caliber midfielders played alongside him. McTominay is fine as a DM at the moment but I don't think Periera is good enough to play as a No. 8. Time and time again we've realized that Pereira functions better as a NO. 10 (eg: Southampton game last season).

Have people already forgotten the media shitshow he put on last year? It has been clear for a long time that he doesn't intend to stay in England for very long.
I think that this is because there has been an agenda against him since that world-record transfer fee, which has obviously been surpased now.

I mean, just look at Maguire and his fee. There’s been some talk about it being too high, but nowhere near what was talked about Pogba. I think that the main reason why Pogba wants to leave is the English media treating him like shit whenever he makes a wrong pass or anything not that great.

I think he simply wants to leave because we're not good enough. That's another reason why we should have strengthened the midfield. Show ambition!

Jose was right after all. Pogba is a happy virus. Hope he stays in this mood and signs contract extension.
