How does it work after Brexit then? Can he still join when he turns 16 on scholarship contract or have to wait until 18?

Norway aren't in the EU.The are in the EEA

They are part of the single market but not the customs union. As far as I know, being part of the EEA does not require a visa

Which means UK need to find out an agreement to stay in EEA after Brexit to allow the players like Isak Hansen-Aarøen to join British Clubs before 18?

Think it could work the same way, African or non EU/EEA players get permits. Just satisfying the 'special talent' criteria. It hasn't stopped other young Noggies joining so I'm thinking the same here.
Josh King was with us before 18 plus all those others. We were after Odergaard and he joined RM, so didn't see any restrictions there. I don't envisage any problems

He’s from my hometown. Know nothing about him though, but I’m a bit worried that he’s going to continue playing for Tromsø until he’s 16. Not the best place to be when it comes to development, although the club did develop Morten Gamst Pedersen who was a decent player.

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
It's the FIFA rule on movement of U18s that we might hit if we're out of the EU/EEA, not whatever rules get put in place dealing with adult players. The FIFA rules apply whether you're signing them on full pro papers or Academy ones.

FIFA regulations say you can't register U18s from abroad unless:
b) The transfer takes place within the territory of the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) and the player is aged between 16 and 18.

So I guess if we are signing him, we've got a backup plan in case we can't register him directly at 16.

United's representatives have been over to Norway again last week to discuss Hansen-Aaroen

United visit again in Tromsø: TIL dreams of cooperation with the big club
On the same day that Ole Gunnar Solskjær's star gallery plays match in Norway, the club has been touring in northern Norway.
The Manchester United representative gets in the car of TIL's sports manager Svein-Morten Johansen to head to the airport after meetings at Alfheim last fall. On Tuesday, United was back at Alfheim.

Earlier this year, iTromsø told that 14-year-old TIL player Isak Hansen-Aarøen has signed for Manchester United. The plan is to stay at Alfheim until he is 16, and then move on to the academy in England.

Aarøen, who turns 15 later in September, has already trained with TIL's A-team, and played senior football for TIL 2 in 2019. He is this week traveling in Belgium where the club's 16-year-olds play training matches.

Following up on the island of Aarø is one of the reasons why United once again chose to travel to Tromsø. United was in town in October to talk to the club and player. And both the TO and the 14-year-old have been to Manchester several times over the past year.

That the club is back in Tromsø shows that they want to have control over what kind of everyday life the future Manchester United player will have next year.

Isak Hansen Aarøen played from the start for TIL 2 against LSK 2 earlier this summer.

- Made a plan for the island
On May 16, the TIL leadership even came out with the news that they had agreed with United on a deal for the young boy. An agreement that, if everything flaps in the future of the island, could end up with a double digit number of NOK million on account.

Sports manager Svein-Morten Johansen does not want to comment on Tuesday's visit, but told in May that the dialogue is good with the big club.

"We have made a plan with them, and we will pay him in the same way as the professional contracts we have for such a young player," Johansen told iTromsø on May 16.

A conversation around the breakfast table got Manchester United to Oslo
Player exchange?
In addition to the cooperation on Aarøen, Johansen opened the way for the links between the clubs to develop in the long term.

- We have managed to make contact with such a big club, especially when Isaac is here. Then there are other things in the deal. During that period, we can establish relationships with key people there, which may strengthen a relationship in the future, Johansen said at the time.

After it is known to iTromsø, an opportunity TO in the long term will foresee is that the club can borrow players from the United system. Of course, this comes in addition to cooperation in other areas.

English clubs have had such agreements with several Norwegian top teams. Most famous is perhaps the Strømsgodset's agreement with Manchester City, which on several occasions sent players to Norway.

TIL has previously had an agreement with English Fulham, where Josh Pritchard was brought to Tromsø. It did not end with any success at that time, but has not intimidated TO from looking at future opportunities when building a relationship with United.

Tromso has confirmed the deal. Apparently we've also gone into a partnership deal with them.

I'm glad about us reaching out to clubs and gaining connections/partnerships, Butt is doing/has done (not sure how involved he is now?) a brilliant job with the youth setup.

I can see us forming a few of these partnerships over the next couple of years with Brexit in mind.

that's were we send Barlow on loan, right? That might be the partnership deal then, loaning out prospects.

Aidan Barlow off there on loan too, could be a few more over the seasons off there.

Can’t believe it. Tromsø is my local team.
Good. We expect regular updates on Barlow.

Plus Isak is apparently starting for their reserve team at the age of 15. Must be a big talent.

I’ll definitely post regular updates on Barlow! And yeah, I think he even played for TIL 2 when he was 14 which is crazy.

I feel like I'm unfair to be comparing him to 13-14 year old Gomes whenever I watch him. Most 13-14 year olds don't look as good when compared to Gomes. I need to stop doing that whenever I see a young attacking midfielder.

Yeah the chance of us pulling another Gomes out of the hat are insanely slim unfortunately.

Here's Gomes at 13 years old against an u17 side for reference

You could already see his great vision here. With Aaroen, you can see he can run with the ball.

I heard this lad has been scouted by our youth setup ever since he was 10 years old, so this move has been long in the making. Glad he's coming in, hope he can be our own Eriksen or something like that. Not quite sure yet what kind of a player he'll turn out to be, of course! He seems to be strong in dribbling and to a lesser extent in picking out a pass.

For anyone who has the time & interest he's the number 10 in this video with the orange boots. He comes on at 16 minutes. Looks very good technically & glides across the ground & has a nice way of beating players without needing to use pace.
