Do you have a second ‘local team’?

Békéscsaba in the Hungarian Second Division (NB II).

They're never going to meet United. It's a small club even by Hungarian standards, with a single cup win in 1988 and a third place finish in the top flight in 1993 being their most notable achievements.

As a kid, I started to go the games around the time when the club was at its best so I got to see some of the now local legends in the flesh. The first relegation I had to witness was a huge shock to my 12-year old self.

Pakhtakor FC, Tashkent, Uzbekistan, currently managed by Shota Arveladze (in case anyone remembers him). The team died in air crash on August 11, 1979 a couple of months before I was born (RIP). I wanted to become a pro-footballer, so got enrolled in Pakhtakor's kids team and made all the way up to under 19s, then did my knee. Pulled out of Pakhtakor and Uzbekistan's under 19's teams, so now have the honour of just supporing two great teams: Manchester United and Pakhtakor.

Rosenborg is my local club. By far the best side in Norway. Some giants has fallen visiting them. Likes of Real, Milan, Dortmund and Mourinho got the sack after losing for them. Even knocked out Milan in the CL and went to the quarters. Would always support United if they played against each other. Maybe this year in the EL :)
Thanks for beating Maribor last night.

I never had a second team until a few years back when I starting watching Olimpija Ljubljana, as my girlfriend is from there. It’s so different to watching United but good fun. You’re allowed beer in the stands, which still feels like a novelty to me every time I go. Unfortunately the clubs in Slovenia always seem to be on the verge of bankruptcy and Milan Mandaric is the current owner, so you can imagine how that is going.

My dad used to take me to see Derby County as a kid until Ron Atkinson’s Utd came to the Baseball ground in 1985 (I think) in an fa cup game. Went there a derby fan and came home a Utd fan.

Only times I’ve watched Derby since are when they’ve played Utd. Might show a slight interest in them soon ...

I'm from Den Haag, but ADO Den Haag can suck my balls. I watch the first team of the club I play for most weeks, they're too shite to count as a club though.

I don’t know if I would say I really support them but more of a general interest in what they are up to and going to a few games but Aberdeen.

Can't say I really support any of them but I try to catch games from Ajax, SC Heerenveen and Cambuur on the telly if I can. Ajax because I think they're the best Dutch team (prefer them to Feyenoord and PSV), but if they play United I want United to win. SC Heerenveen because my late grandfather used to take me there, and Cambuur because they're my local team. It's weird because SC Heerenveen and Cambuur are local rivals and Cambuur fans generally hate Heerenveen whereas Heerenveen fans look down on Cambuur for generally being the lesser club. I'm sort of in the middle of it all and wish both teams the best. It means I sometimes have to dodge questions from fans for my own safety though :nervous::lol:

At the moment, I don't see myself ever supporting another football club so whenever I get a bit annoyed at United, I go all in on the NFL.

@limerickcitykid has a season ticket to Charlton. That's the kind of traitor he is....
Did you lads end up going last weekend? I was going to go but something else came up and I couldn't. Tickets were only £20 which looked decent (against Stoke). What's the atmosphere like and is it worth the trip?

Karlsruher SC. Even though they're just playing in the second german division, last season was a good one. KSC got promoted while arch rivals Stuttgart got relegated to the second league, ensuring two derbies this year.

Notoriously unsuccessful, the most recent silverware are two german cups in the 50s. Notable achievements include Bundesliga debuts for Oliver Kahn and Mehmet Scholl as well as spanking Valencia 7-0 in the UEFA Cup in 93.

Wrexham. The third oldest team in the world.

And I'd want United to win... as I did when they met in the FA Cup and our ECWC winning run in 91.

Watching Wrexham has given me some big moments though... I watched them put Porto out in 84 (who'd reached a European final the previous season), then watched them home and away v Roma in the next round.

As a kid, I saw the very good 78 team win their league before the team was broken up... Dai Davies to Swansea, Ashcroft to Boro, Shinton to City, Jones to Liverpool and Mickey Thomas to United.

And my best non-United moment... in the Kop (the Wrexham one) for the Wrexham Arsenal FA Cup match in 92. Arsenal were League Champions and had 7 England internationals. Wrexham probably lucky to go in 1-0 down but two late goals saw them cause one of the biggest upsets ever..... cue pitch invasion.

Hope we meet in the FA Cup again and it's 4-3.

Always try to watch the Wolves, Villa and WBA games because they're local and gives me plenty to talk about with mates etc

Most my family are hardcore Leeds fans, so I was a bit sad too see them go down and would like too see them return so we can smash them twice a year.

We did, yeah. We’re sitting on different stands though so we met afterwards for a beer. Limerick sits on the Covered End which is the rowdy, lively part of the stadium and it was buzzing. I’m in the seats behind the benches which have better views but it’s more families and older chaps. I got a bit jealous of the noise coming from his part tbh.

We managed to get 17k supporters including couple of thousands of Stoke fans (impressed by their turnout too) which was more than I expected. The stadium can fit up to 27k though so parts did seem empty. The atmosphere was good, the result was great and the journey is 10 mins by bus for me, so you can’t beat that

Overall, thoroughly enjoyed myself and quite excited about the season ahead.

We currently play in the Northern Premier League 3 tiers below the football league.

We've had a few famous names play for the club over the years, such as Billy Foulkes, Stan Pearson, Ian Rush, Lee Dixon and a few others that escape memory. No honours to brag about I'm afraid.

Well I do support Rochdale, my local team as a second team. If they played Man United in a cup game any other era I'd perhaps lean towards Rochdale but have no strong feelings either way. In this age though when it is the same old teams dominating I would have to support Manchester United to held stop Manchester City from winning the Cups.

Linfield is my local team. Im a full member and have been a season ticket holder for the last 24 seasons.

Tonight Linfield made Irish League history by being the first team to get through to the 4th round.

We did get to the QF of the European Cup in 1967 but that was only 3 rounds in.

Proud night for Linfield and our reward is Qarabag(sp?) which is formidable opponents for us since we're a part time outfit.

Incidently we do have some United connections. Dennis Voilet was a Linfield player at the tender age of 35. Trevor Anderson was our manager in the early 90s and Roy Carroll was our keeper for 3 seasons, last year being his last season.
& David Healy as manager :)

Bristol Rovers I am ashamed to admit.
If you think that the United owners are bad, you have seen nothing.
The worst ground in the whole football league, no training ground, no ambition and a club loosing over 3 million a year. Just a big fat nothing to get excited about.
Funnily enough thats the same as me. Im down in Bristol as well and when we moved here I was given the choice between Rovers or City by my parents as we had to give up our OT season tickets (the commute was too much every week for my dad back then). I chose Rovers, pressurised by the local gas head mates I'd recently made.... interesting choice!

Funnily enough I've got to know a few players, past and present, and its a great club with horrendous management. Both at board level and now on the pitch.

The ground is a shithole, but the pub crawl and day out around there is mint.

Wrexham for me too mate, used to go and watch them regularly in the late 60's/early 70's, last time I saw them was Dave Smallman's breakthrough season about 1973..

Yeah Warrington my town, I don’t support them because I’m a United fan but I follow their results loosely. They play FC United next month.

I’m going as a neutral of course. If they ever play united I want Warrington to get battered 10-0

I am, first and foremost, a Lincoln City fan as that's where I'm from and it's the team my entire family support. But I grew up supporting United and Lincoln pretty much equally. I started supporting United when I was five, because my best friend told me about them and, at that time, I thought they were the only team that played football (apart from Lincoln).

I find it bemusing when certain fans get on their high-horses about how you can't support two football teams (though not in this thread I have to say). I just do. I can't turn off my love for either United or Lincoln, when I watch both teams I want them both to win with all my being. It doesn't feel like a conscious choice. I'm sure lots of people feel like this and I hope people will become more tolerant of fans who have two teams as the world becomes smaller.

That said, if push came to shove, I'd want Lincoln to beat United, just because they're the smaller team and it would be the greatest day in our history. Funnily enough, we're playing the U23s in the Checkatrade soon, so it's not so hypothetical after all.

Some second team eh. Don't even know what league they play in

Grandad would not be pleased with me right now.
 I only know because mine is Telford and we're in the same league. Hate going to Chester because we literally never win there.

Mansfield Town are my second team, but I'm not as attached as I am to United. A bad result for the stags doesn't impact me in the way as watching united lose does.
I've said on here before, but I'll watch any football and have also been to Derby County many times with friends. Manchester United will always, always come first though.

Nice, good player (so I'm told) then injured/career done?

Not the same since they closed the Kop.

Hoping they can come up.... have the fans to match Div.2 teams. Tough league to get out of though.

Wow. Great to know you my friend.
When I was much younger and still at school, I was mad about football and obviously wanted to watch. This was in the mid 1960's and Bristol Rovers used to play at Eastville. So I could either ride there on my bike or use the bus if I could afford it. City and Rovers were both in the old third division but gradually City became the better team. But I still 'follow' the Rovers even though as you say the ground is really terrible.
A few years ago they were taken over by a Jordanian family and everybody thought that things would improve.
Not so. The proposed new stadium at the UWE fell through and the team is as bad as ever.
Hence my love of Manchester United who I became a fan of following the Munich disaster.
