We all complain when clubs get our casts off for next to nothing and praise Liverpool/City when they get decent money for theirs. I'm glad we stuck to our guns somewhat with Rojo. The likes of Mings and Webster are going for close to £20m or above so Rojo for £25m doesn't sound too outrageous. Clubs have probably known we are desperate to get rid of players in the past and have stuck low bids in knowing we will most likely sell. The market is now a sellers market and we can get decent fee's that can add up for our deadwood.

Only we can't. And there is no way that a club otside of the PL is paying £25m for him. It was our chance due to the inflated PL prices.

Rojo is not a great CB/LB and it was a good chance to reduce the wage bill.

I’d value him at 15 million tops.

Almost feel sorry for him and Darmian.

Both would be happy to leave but we just won’t sell.

Did Everton actually bid though or did they just panic and mention a name to placate the fans?

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
Darmian especially should just be given a free transfer, no one is ever going to buy him, if we'd given him a free transfer 2 years ago we'd have already saved £6.3m in salary, I doubt very much we'd recover that in a transfer fee.
There were actually a couple of Italian clubs who were interested in buying him last season (and probably the season before that). From memory they were willing to pay 5m and he wanted to go, but we were holding out for 15m. Unsurprisingly they walked away.

Looking at Norwich last night they could do with a Rojo or Jones for £10m...

I can see why we wanted a permanent deal. Firstly, why do a potential rival a favour with a loan? Secondly, there’ll most likely be a club on the continent that would take him on loan come the end of their window; it’s not the last chance for us to make that deal.

I still fully expect Rojo and Darmian to have gone by the start of September. Sadly, I doubt there’ll be more.

This could be promising, presumably we would be more open to a loan to an overseas club and hopefully there will be an option to buy included.

I don't get this... We rejected a loan deal for Rojo from Everton because they wouldn't buy him instead and consider loaning him to Fenerbache instead (if there's any truth to the tweet)

Would they like a free gift wrapping with that?

I think the issue with Everton was that we didn't want to strengthen a rival PL team unless they were willing to pay for a permanent transfer and make it worth our while. This deal would banish him overseas and so has no potential downside. Everton might also have tried to get away with a cheap deal thinking we were desperate whilst the new offer might be on much better terms regarding loan fee and who is paying his wages.

Don't understand why when we could have weakened a PL side and he wouldn't have been able to play against us.

Loan and buy vs just loan I think.

He'd fit in nicely in Turkey. You don't have to be good at football if you're willing to tell rival fans to go feck themselves.

What’s he gonna do? Refuse to play when not selected?

I mean i wouldn't mess with Rojo, especially if he's going to all rambo on us.

It's because the loan system rules mean that Rojo wouldn't be able to play against us. Therefore we'd be weakening Everton against our rivals without having the opportunity to play against Rojo ourselves.

Exactly in that. With playing the ball with his foot. Miles better than those 2.
In other things...meh, all 3 are shit
He’s definitely better at hoofing the ball longer and more aimlessly or shooting for no reason.

He isn't even close to being better than them.

And looking less clumsy on the ball than Smalling means nothing when he attempts 20+ aimless long balls a match plus a guaranteed 40 yard shot or two completely wasting possession. Jones is just as good with the ball minus being a complete idiot who thinks he's Beckenbauer.

Wait, there's still people in here who think Rojo is as good as Smalling and Jones and somehow better with ball at feet?

Rojo is better at being injured than both Smalling and Jones - which is a real achievement. At everything else, he’s clearly worse.
