Apologies if there is a thread on this- couldn't find one.

Looks like the cast have been announced. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/wheel-time-series-amazon-casts-160212334.html

Some of them look pretty close to how I imagined in the books (albeit prettier versions). I'm honestly not sure about this as a series, although I've never been the biggest fan of the books. And if they're going to follow the books then presumably it'll still be airing long after we're all dead and buried.

Yeah, I've not read the books so the series might be the way to go for me. I imagine it'll be chopped down heavily, from what I've read about the series even the fans seem to think there's a lot of filler as the series goes on.

More excited for The Witcher Netflix series, reading those books at the moment and it's really good stuff.

Hell even MTV had that first series of the Shannara Chronicles. Fantasy from everyone, for everyone.

The Wheel of Time was better than GOT until the original writer died then it turned to shit, will watch it, but if its anything like the GOT TV Show i will give it a wide berth.

Wow, didn't think they'd make this.

There are so many characters though, they will need to be creative to fit it all in.

Cannot wait to see this, and of course their LoTR series too. Thank you GoT for paving the way.

Perhaps. Imo, Memory of Light is a finale as brilliant as written by Jordan. Books 6-8 are just drawn out drag fest by Jordan.
Oh I totally agree, as with most of these epic series' of books its a combination of the writer a) not wanting it to end and b) not knowing how to end it. I feel in love with the first 4 so am probably biased .

There has been so many discussion on this in the fantasy books thread. Yeah, books 1-4 are awesome. After that he married his editor and it shows in following books.

On a long road that returns to Old Trafford!!!
Everything after Lord of Chaos is a slog until you reach Knife of Dreams. Sanderson did an admirable job of finishing the series though his take on some characters was really poor.

This should be out late next year or early 2021.

Shit, this should have been my thread. Love WoT.

As expected, unknown actors for the main characters. Also, kind of surprised that the story seems to follow Moiraine instead of Rand. Rosamund Pike as Moiraine is a weird choice in itself, considering that she is tall and blonde while Moiraine is supposed to be ultra short and black haired. Still, having a good actress is more important than looking like how she is supposed to be in the books. Additionally, considering that she is infinitely more interesting than Rand, glad to hear that the story is gonna follow her.

Very excited!

On the bad side, there are some rumours that Elayne and Min will be cut.

Book 5 is easily the best in the saga. Heck even book 6 is very good. 7-11 are not that great, with 9 and 10 being close to unreadable.

This scares me if true. GoT has broken lots of boundaries regarding nudity, sex/incest etc. So a polygamous relationship should be be too controversial now.

If they are cutting this, then looks like they are trying to PG the whole show, which would be a mess.
I don't see how they can do a polygamous relationship (with all three women accepting it) in the current climate. Many people will get offended.

I hope that they don't cut Elayne though. I don't care about Aviendha, and Min's entire role is to just follow Rand. However, Elayne is as important as Nynaeve, if not Egwene, so cutting her from the show would be really bad. Read some rumours yesterday, and now it seems that from the main characters, she is the only one who has not been cast.

Elayne is no great loss, Min though would be a big miss. She’s the most interesting of Rand’s wives, although I guess working polygamy into a us tv show is a bit much.

Min is the nicest character in the books, but her entire character is to just follow Rand and don't let him become bad.

Elayne - as bitchy and stupid as she is - is too important for the story, and just cutting her would be pretty bad. I hope they find a workaround. Plus, without her they cannot make 'the bath' episode, which they must do.

Such differing views.

Elayne has some bit role on Book 1 but nothing significant. Both her and Aviendha aget important only from Bk3 or perhaps even later imo. So Season 1 would probably not feature them. And if show follows Moiraine, then Rand's love interest would not be that important in S1 too, meaning no Min.

I'm assuming S1E1 would start from Gitara's foretelling from New Spring and then cutting back to Rand's village and shadowspawn attack.

Elayne is not at all important for the first season. If required she can be cast later. Just hope they get Mads Mikkelsen as Lan and Sam Elliot as Thom. Sean Bean as Tam would also be great.

YESHHHHH, We'll GOOO for it.
I'm not convinced by Perrin and Mat casting. Like Perrin's casting but he needs strong eyes. And I imagined Mat to be more fun. Rand and Nynaeve are perfectly cast.
Mat looks great, tbh.

Rosamund Pike fits Moiraine perfectly. Dropping Min, Elayne is a major feckup, but I hope to God, they don't fecking cover Elayne's ascension and Faile's Shaidonapping in the series. Doesn't add anything to the grander theme nor character development. Actually, doing away with Elayne is not that bad as I never understood her role as a battle general in the finale.

The only thing that grates me is how easy the Seanchan become the good guys in the books and I didn't realize it the first time when I read the books because I was so taken with the Mat Cauthon character. They should have died and sacrificed in the final battle.

Sam Elliot is a great call but I thought Man Utd Bennett would have been a terrific Lan. Sean Bean as Tam is great too, but I thought Mads Mikkelsen would be great as Tam, an understated swordsman

I really don't understand why you feel the need to talk about book plot events, can you stick to casting or just at least spoiler tag for the first book? Is it really necessary to talk about things happening 10+ books deep? I never get this attitude tbh.

Who would play Demandred?

I always really loved his name, and adopted it for my Warhammer Vampire Counts army leader. Geeky times.
