Well, today, we will have to choose between correct decisions and this. Without var this goal would have been accepted. At the same time, it's really messing with the game.

What a disaster of decision. Ball grazing a hand is not handball. That maybe on the rules but it's stupid.

It’s the correct call by the rules.

And, VAR worked in getting to the correct decision.

The question is whether the rule itself is naff ...

Not sad to see City suffer, but that was an awful call.
It was a perfect call. Any handball that leads to a goal is an offence, even accidentally. Disallowing the goal was indisputably the correct decision.

Whether the new handball rules works is another matter.

How someone still can be against VAR? Another correct decision which decides winner.
Without var it would be 2 undeserved points more for one team and one deserved point less for another

BTW on the replay I thought there was a slight tug by Skipp on someones shirt before the handball.

Crazy. Should have been a VAR penalty in the first half not given and if you are going to be that pernickety with it brushing his hand that was in a natural position then surely Laporte should have had a penalty earlier when his wrist was grabbed and held by a spurs player which he went down from.

VAR is a pile of turd with the same old issues we had with normal refs. No consistency. As much as I love seeing City get some harsh calls against them at somepoint we are going to be on the end of this.

It’s the delay.
No one in this thread will convince me that people will start reigning in or holding a real celebration before the VAR gives the all clear on a goal. Simple as that.

Just feels wrong when a goal is disallowed after a minute or two with absolutely no protests, no questions from the commentators and after five or six replays that noone really reacts to.

I am completely for VAR but I can't understand how they'd rule out a handball like that and then miss the penalty shout from the first half (which was more obvious and intentional).

Rules are rules
how can that be an awful call - he used his arm to steer the ball towards a teammate ?
Why's that?

There are new rules this year. No matter the context, if the ball touches the hand of a player, it's a handball.
Apologies for my poor word choice. The new rule is shite. The call was correct in enforcing the way it’s written, but I disagree with the rule if that’s the way it’s going to play out in a game.

So do I understand this right if a hand is involved in any way, intentional or unintentional, while a goal is scored it's automatically canceled?
Yep. It makes for very clear cut calls at least.

Tottenham were celbrating loads when that goal was disallowed.

VAR is a double-edged sword. What it takes away in terms of immediacy for one team, it adds in term of hope for the other team.

It means that every big moment will leave the whole stadium on tenterhooks. That makes the experience better, imo. It adds a new dimension that never existed before. You can still celebrate a goal 15 seconds later.

I think that's correct. Which is a problem with the new handball rules tbh, it has nothing to do with VAR.

The issue isn't var, its the rule changes that have come with it. The any touch of an arm is hand ball is shite. And the offside rule should go back to clear daylight to be offside. Still factual but will rule out less goals.

That city goal shouldn't have been ruled out.

It is utterly ridiculous. It should be obvious to anyone that the system simply isn’t functioning properly yet and has been introduced prematurely. It’s ruining the game.

Perfect VAR call. The rules are clear. Any handball = no goal.

Being in a natural position makes zero difference. If it touches his hand it's a handball.

Why do pundits always say denied by VAR getting sick of that phrase already.

They were denied by breaking the rules simple as that. Just trying to make controversy where there is none.
